Got an advocacy group's email this morning on the Trump "pull funding for testing programs" decision.
Apparently, the Trump Administration announced that they reversed their decision to pull funding last night.
Who knows HOW such a decision got made — either the original one OR the new one to rescind and return to the status qu.
Unfortunately, neither will be expanding the testing program to allow a more complete understanding of the status of the disease in the United States. Last night's summary said there had been 1,124,195ests — or 3.39 per 1,000 in the United States.

This is right up there with
– there was no coverup, there are no tapes
– the US did not sell arms to Iran to fund the Contras
– if you like your plan, you can keep it
– I did not have sexual relations with that woman

I saw a poll that voter enthusiasm is not in our favor — more GOPers are excited about voting than Dems. That may narrow once the fact that Biden is our candidate takes hold among supporters of other candidates. But, it's still very concerning.
Opponents will try to demonize Biden just like they've demonized every Dem candidate (see: Hillary). We have to resist bashing Biden and embrace the notion that a Biden Administration will be light years better than a second Trump Administration. (I feel like I have to go wash my hands after typing "second Trump Administration".)

I do not know if we are talking about the same poll, but the CNN poll that showed GOPers with higher enthusiasm, also showed Biden beating Trump by 11%. So, it seems like the same old story – the right-wing nuts are greatly outnumbered, but they show up to the polls. If the left and center get out the vote, Dems win easily. If not, we are all on pins and needles waiting to see if the electoral college screws Americans for the third time in 6 elections.
Voter enthusiasm is extraordinarily high … but not necessarily when it comes to Biden. The "vote blue, no matter who" crowd won't be excited by a single Democratic candidate … but they will be WILDLY excited about the prospect of defeating Trump.
Turn out in midterm elections has often been a pretty good predictor of turnout in the following Presidential (4 year) election. Roll Call's Nathan L. Gonzales wrote "Over the past century, the average difference in turnout between a midterm and a subsequent presidential election has been 16 points. That would pin 2020 turnout at about 66 percent, setting a record." Granted, the prediction needs to be bracketed by considerations of voting in a time of pandemic — but, as Gonzales continues;
Hickenlooper wrote a "vote by mail" column for Washington Post, including "Since we started mailing ballots to every eligible voter in Colorado, voter turnout in the state has increased 3.3 percent, putting our state’s voting rate among the highest in the country."
If enthusiasm for voting against Trump is paired with voting participation sustained by vote by mail, this can still be a historically large turnout.
Note to Uncle Joe: name your VP and your Cabinet forthwith. Let the voters see 'the team'.
Uhh, I wonder what you think of Tom Friedman's suggestions for Biden's cabinet, including: Mike Bloomberg, Treasury; Mitt Romney, State; Mike DeWine (R-OH), OMB. A so-called "Team of Rivals".
Are you excited yet? Regardless, you better realize that Biden is light years better than Trump and start promoting that message.
I’m fine with Uncle Joe. An announcement of the cabinet picks would be for others. Fixing this is going to require a team with incredible talent. My idea of ‘Team of Rivals’ is primarily his primary opponents – although there are a handful of Republicans I think are fine people. He does have some experience on reaching across the aisle with his old boss.
Michael: re the article's mention of William Cohen as Clinton's defense secretary….. A little Cohen trivia here: co-author in 1985, with Gary Hart, of "The Double Man" thriller novel. I have it. Read it years ago and thought it was pretty good.

We see it every year in ultra-red Mesa County. The fruitgrowers and sheep operations run ads for months seeking labor. The workforce centers try to recruit. No success, but that doesn't stop the anti-immigrant local yokels. Put “all those people who are on welfare'' to work, they say, never mind that most already work and the others are unable to do so by age or disability. Or both.
Well, there’s always the county jail as a potential source of workers. Maybe get local youth corps.
The County jails already exploit inmate labor. My son in law’s serving a 6 month sentence for DUI (no victims, no priors) in Jeffco Jail. He gets up at 4:30 every morning to work in the kitchen. He gets gloves but no mask. Coronavirus is spreading in the facility, with one deputy positive and numerous inmates with symptoms. One doctor for a thousand patients. The attitude of administration seems to be that all inmates are lying, and anyway their lives don’t matter much since they’re poor, black or brown, or both.
For his labor, he is paid $2.00 per hour, which buys 2 packs of Ramen noodles at the commissary.
We’re trying to get him out. The elderly and physically fragile inmates are out. I’ve contacted his lawyer, judge, and legislators. But nobody gives a damn.
