Poll: Who Will Win the Republican Nomination for State Treasurer?

  • by: Colorado Pols

As with all of today’s polls, we are not looking for you to indicate your personal preference. We want to know who you realistically believe will win the election tomorrow — or as we’ve said before, if you had to bet the deed to your house, who would you choose?

Republicans Walker Stapleton and J.J. Ament are vying for the right to take on incumbent Treasurer Cary Kennedy. Who wins?

  1. Because there are a host of GOP voters who are only voting because it is a mail-in ballot AND because they want to vote against McInnis. They’re completely clueless about the rest of the ballot and so are “voting for the guy named after that town here in Colorado”… Even though Stapleton isn’t a town… I still haven’t found “Ament, CO” on the map yet either.

The funny thing is, I really think the plagiarism thing wouldn’t have gone far had McInnis just thrown a bunch of support behind Ali at the State Assembly… I like Ali a lot, but too few delegates could see past his name (Sorry Ali!). JJ would have still won at Assembly, McInnis would be untained going into this vote and JJ wouldn’t have all these people showing up to vote without a clue why he would be a better option than “the guy named after a town in Colorado”.

    1. the plagiarism would not have gone anywhere at all because the Hasan’s would have not cared. They’d have figured they got their $300K worth from Scotty.

        1. would matter to not more than 1%, those who would know. But, it would have been a 1 day, back page story with a quote from the Hasan’s saying it didn’t matter. Therefore it “wouldn’t matter” because very, very few people would know of it.

      1. With government largess exposed, I highly suspect Ref C&D would go down in flames today.

Its like saying hey Dan Maes house is in foreclosure … do you really think he should be managing your government?

Its the same as the incumbant backlash. Hey Congress has put the nation on the path to foreclosure … I’m thinking the general oposition to the Democrat led governments of the US and Colorado is high. The people don’t want fiscal losers managing this little HOA we call government.

  2. helps explain his slight lag in the polls.  This indicates that lots of GOP activists may be brassed off at him, and that he may not be devoting sufficient effort to his campaign.

And, due to undervoting, the voters in this race are likely to be better informed than the average GOP voter.

  3. Bought the election.  The base predominantly supports Ament and he has better long-term political prospects than Stapleton, but I just don’t see him pulling it off.

  4. his dad, Don Ament, served on state board of education, state senate, and then as director of the Ag dept.   A hell of a lot of rural Coloradans know Don and will vote for JJ on that basis.  Plus, every Coloradan who ever flew hated Stapleton Airport.

As a minor point political, JJ also has a working IQ.  Stapleton apparently doesn’t.

        1. every year I threaten to vote solely on the basis of robocalls…against the candidate that uses them the most.

I don’t really carry through.  But I hang up on the bastards as quick as I can and cuss the politicians who exempted them from the no call list.

I’ll take live calls…and made some for Bennet myself.  But Robos suck and are counter productive.  Maybe not from Obama, but I didn’t listen to that one either.
