I would like to point out something to those who may still be scratching their heads over the recent entry of 2 new horses in the 2020 Dem presidential race.
From all appearances, it grows increasingly unlikely a true frontrunner will pull ahead of the pack before the convention. It then will be a brokered convention and then it becomes all about delegates. One of the bloodiest battles in a convention can boil down to party platform fights.
Accumulating delegates can dramatically increase ones' influence there. Which then becomes a poker chip elsewhere. I expect this to go to a brokered melee, with wealthy centrists pulling out all the stops to preserve as much of the status quo as they can.
Much will depend on where we stand with the de-lousing of the Whitest House at the time, but the Lords of Wail St. ( typo intentionally left in place 😌) and the oligarchs of Silicon Valley will spare no expense to ensure their stranglehold on the wealth of our nation.
Eleven weeks to the Iowa caucus night. Fifteen to Super Tuesday.
That will include debates in Nov., Dec., Jan., and February. Fund-raising and spending report on January 15. Clarification of the (mild) uncertainty of if the House will impeach, if (or when) they will forward it to the Senate for trial, and a decision on trial rules and estimate of how long the trial might last. Plus one or two foreign relations issues, reports on the number who signed up for health care insurance via ACA, and a GDP report on the economy.
Without knowing a great deal more than we do now, trying to guess how many candidates even get to Iowa, how many remain after the other three February contests, and who had money enough to spend on Super Tuesday to make a splash seems to me quite a stretch. And all that won't even get us to 50% of the delegates selected.

The platforms in both parties are traditionally written by the ideologists. There is no reason to change that. That is why even when the GOP runs a non-bat shit crazy as its nominee (think John McCain or Mitt Romney), they still run on a platform that promises to protect the sanctity of the fertilized egg from the moment of conception.
I expect that eve if Mike Bloomberg were to miraculously win the nomination there would still be language in the platform about MFA (at least, as a long-term, aspiriational goal), open borders, assault rifle confiscations (actually, Bloomberg would probably like that plank), etc.
