  1. Adding to my comment in Friday's open thread about Russian loans to Trump, has anyone wondered why Trump caved in to Erdogan regarding the Syrian Kurds, our allies against ISIS? Is it a coincidence that the Trump Organization owns a big hotel in Istanbul?

    1. Well, sure. That’s obvious to you and me, . . .

. . . but if you ask any Republican legislator, you’ll probably be reminded that it’s always been a Presidential tradition to pardon a Turkey around this time of year, and Ttump probably just wanted this year’s to be the biggest one ever???

When / where is it going to be this time?

  3. Trump visited Walter Reed Hospital for an unidentified emergency, which his press people dubbed a “partial annual physical”. Twitter had fun with it, of course.

    My favorite:

    1. The always wry Eugene Robinson broke up the table during Meet the Press this morning when he rather dryly suggested that a case could be made that Donald T***p isn't good for the Republican party….

A real "no shit, Eugene" moment if I ever heard one.

  4. Is Mike Pence ready to toss Trump under the bus?

A top national security aide to Vice President Mike Pence told House impeachment investigators that President Donald Trump’s efforts to pressure Ukraine to investigate his political opponents were “unusual and inappropriate,” and “shed some light on possible other motivations” for the president’s order to freeze military aid to the U.S. ally.

Jennifer Williams, who serves as Pence’s special adviser for Europe and Russia, told investigators in early November that she took notes while she listened in on Trump’s July 25 phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky from the White House Situation Room, adding that she viewed Trump’s requests for investigations as politically motivated.

  5. Here is your "laugher" for the day:

Score at end of 3 quarters: Broncos 23, Minnesota 7

Final score: Minnesota 27, Broncos 23

I knew there was a good reason I haven't watched a single Broncos game this year. Speaking of sports and politics, it seems Governor Polis has sent letters asking Kroenke Sports, Comcast, and DISH to resolve their billing issues for Nuggets & Avs games. Of course, that would mean Kroenke stops seeing itself in the same league as ESPN, which it isn't, and thus able to charge ESPN level fees.

    1. The article is interesting, especially in seeing the marketplace at work. But it appears coal will still be around for a while.

Worth doing a little research into anthracite, which is the closest to clean burning coal that exists. Generally not used much for power generation due to its expense. Anthracite is approved in the UK's 1993 Clean Air Act for use in the Greater London area.

Most US deposits are in the northeastern PA area. Apparently it was also mined near Crested Butte, here in Colorado. A branch of the old Rio Grande narrow gauge went north from Gunnison to service the mines. The Marshall Pass narrow gauge line, from Salida to Montrose, was abandoned in the early 1950s.
