  1. Interesting history about the roots of the violent white supremacy movement:

The massacre that spawned the Alt-Right

I was a young feminist  radical in 1979, but don’t remember the Greensboro Massacre, although I do remember the name of Jim Waller. I didn’t respect the opportunistic, sexist communist/socialist party organizers-perhaps that was why.

Or maybe an unholy alliance of the Klan and the Nazis murdering 5 Communists just never got much press….

    1. Oh, it got a huge amount of coverage at the time, thanks to some caught on film gunfire.  But the lack of convictions isn't hard to understand since "Death to the Klan" and use of weapons and force by the communists made it easy to claim self-de fense.  A validation of Martin Luther King's philosophy albeit at bitter cost.

    1. The ambassador who suddenly became a "Trump-hating bureaucrat" after being a Trump lackey?  That ambassador?

You want to go after the newly elected official that flipped your fuhrer off?

Juli Briskman became, well, inadvertently famous by being in the right place at the right time to express the feelings that the majority of Americans have for Donald Trump. Fired shortly after by her employer, Loudoun voters voted today to make her a member of the new Democratic Party majority on the Loudoun Board of Supervisors.

    2. Be patient, Pear. It takes time to run the paperwork.  And Trump did so well for us in Virginia and Kentucky that we're reluctant to see him leave.

      Pass the biscuits, Pappy!

        1. I’ll get to the Abbey about 6 or 630 as well. I suggest making a reservation under the name “Pols” , with a table for 8 or so. That way, if new folks show up, they can be directed to the right table. Some of us know each other by sight: others don’t.

Since MADCO will be sitting with Charlize Theron, he’ll be easy to spot.

            1. You are ? If you don’t get to it, I’ll call the Abbey tomorrow night.

I turn my phone off during the work day.

Yes, Phoenix, this is our not – Saturday  Pols meetup.

      1. According to "Lexington," the US correspondent for the Economist, in last week's issue, that person to win the Electoral College would be Amy Klobuchar.

Also read the cover article on Elizabeth Warren and her campaign's many problems.

        1. Absolutely. Amy could win a general election hands down. She just can't win the nomination with the …. hmm, how can I put this diplomatically …. the good people who feel very, very strongly about crafting and implementing grandiose plans to remedy income and asset mal-distribution trashing the idea of reasonable-sized solutions which potentially have broad support.

            1. Hillary lost because she took the so-called "blue wall" of PA, MI, WI for granted. In her MN re-election race, Klobuchar ran far ahead of Hillary in that state.

If she was the nominee, Klobuchar would not make the same mistakes as Hillary did. Senator K. would take the three states that HRC lost, and possibly pick up IA to go along.

Also, Senator K. would play far better in swing states like NC, FL, and AZ than any of the "coastal liberals" would, like Warren, Sanders, Harris.

  2. Senate president: Kentucky governor's race could be decided by state legislature

Under state law, Bevin has 30 days to formally contest the outcome once it is certified by the State Board of Elections. Candidates typically ask for a re-canvass of voting machines and a recount first.

Section 90 states: "Contested elections for Governor and Lieutenant Governor shall be determined by both Houses of the General Assembly, according to such regulations as may be established by law."

Sam Marcosson, a constitutional law professor at the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law, told The Courier Journal that this language of the state Constitution suggests there must be procedure established by law for a review of a contested election to take place by the House and Senate.

“They can’t just make them up,” Marcosson said.

Further, he said, such a review would be extremely risky for lawmakers to undertake without clear reasons for a contested election.

If you’re comforting yourself with notions of comity and bipartisanship, remember: one side will consider and usually do anything they can to hold power.  Do you want to bring an olive branch to that gunfight?

    1. The dKos article notes that the last time someone contested the Kentucky governorship was in 1899; the populist Democrat won, but the Republican – supported by the legislature – contested and was initially named governor. After an outcry, the legislature met in secret and reversed themselves. But a Republican fanboy shot the Democrat and he died of his wounds three days in to his tenure.

This sounds ominously possible in today's climate.

    1. What a sweet deal!!!  Bernie is a god!!!  (Not).

Lost in the fine print is how the grandiose M for A, advocated by Sanders and Warren, would be paid for. Ruinous taxation and big reductions in reimbursements for physicians and hospitals, just for starters. And where would all the doctors come from to do M for A?

And “tough shit” for you if you like your existing insurance. The ultra left knows what is best for you. Just like the religious right evangelicals know what is best for you, for your religious views.

  3. Got a coded message from Vladimir this AM to contribute to Tulsi Gabbard campaign. As a powerful bot in the war against Democrats I immediately complied. Please help Tulsi qualify for the December clown show debate. Donate $40 dollars today.
