Poll: Will Proposition DD Pass?

  • by: Colorado Pols

Proposition DD is a statewide referred ballot measure being voted on by Coloradans in the 2019 general elections wrapping up next Tuesday, November 5. Proposition DD would legalize sports betting in the state as authorized by the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision of Murphy v. NCAA, and direct the revenue from a 10% tax on sports bets to fund a portion of Colorado’s Water Plan.

As with all of our totally nonscientific reader discussion polls–and keep in mind that we never represent such polls as anything more than discussion items–we don’t want to know your preference with regard to Proposition DD. We want your honest assessment as politically literate observers of what you think the final outcome will be.

Will Proposition DD pass?

  1. More votes on a CC prediction than on the DD prediction early afternoon on a Wednesday, ~40 to ~30. My best guess is that people are more excited/passionate about the passage or failure of CC and so ignore DD somewhat.

  2. Too late for me to have made some sweet coin on last weekend’s destruction of The Pontiff's Maulers by Michigan.

Always bet the home 'dogs.  Not so sure if that will hold against THE OSU.

  3. Senator Brophy had an entire column on this in last week’s Wray Gazette urging passage. You’d think that if we could just get rid of TABOR and let our electeds do their jobs we could fund critical issues like a state water plan without gimmicks attached to them?

  4. There are two things wrong with Prop DD. First, it would allow dam construction. That means, inevitably, significant damage to fragile riparian ecosystems in this state and harm to fisheries. So I can't support that. The water plan is insufficiently focused on conservation in any case and will continue to encourage Front Range development at the expense not only of the environment but of the West Slope's needs. This is its fundamental flaw. Second, I cannot support sports betting. That encourages corruption in both professional and college sports and it is a way of putting public expenses mostly on the backs of people with modest means, who will be most likely to engage in such betting. I think I'm a "NO" on DD.
