  1. Mark Zuckerberg said (he's lying) that the reason they will allow politicians to lie in Facebook ads is so voters know they're lying.

If that was truly his goal, then instead of running those ads they could instead run an ad that says "Donald Trump wanted to lie to you" with a link to the ad he wanted to run and providing the evidence that it's a lie.

That would more effectively achieve his stated goal.

  2. Tulsi Gabbard won't seek re-election to the House, says she's all in on presidential race.

maybe the Rs will name her as Trump's running mate to keep the Pear happy.

  3. At my age, 74, I'm not easily shocked.  But it was heartbreaking to see John Beno, the affable priest and former state senator from Pueblo, listed in the Colorado Sun's report on priests accused of molesting children.  I have many fond memories of John, who is now dead and both unable to defend himself and invulerable to human judgment.

I keep thinking of the Song “Be not too hard, for life is short, and nothing is given to man.”
We can, and should, however, give what support we can to the victims of such abuse. Sadly, the Special Master’s report cites the two allegations against Beno as “substantiated.”
I can’t link from my amazon fire. But Genghis has kindly provided a link below to both the Pueblo Chieftain story and the Special Master’s report.

    1. I am not surprised by the report because I went to a Catholic High School.

I was not sexually abused, but my experiences with the school and religious education in my parents’ parish give me a very low opinion of the morals of the Catholic Church in general. Publicly rigidly moral and judgemental while perfectly willing to be corrupt in private for money or power.

  4. Much to my surprise, in my WaPo reading this morning:

Graham’s resolution condemning the House impeachment inquiry had 44 co-sponsors as of late Thursday afternoon — but nine Senate Republicans are not yet on board.

Two of the nine — Sens. Susan Collins (Maine) and Cory Gardner (Colo.) — are facing tough reelection battles in states Trump lost in 2016. [my emphasis, of course]

    1. Think McConnell will allow a vote? I'm guessing no. If he does and the result isn't unanimous among the Rs, then it's a big story and Trump looks vulnerable. It's all theater until there's a vote.

      1. The Hill says McConnell is supporting it — but continues to say it may not come to a vote and even if it does come to the floor for a vote, it likely could not reach the 60 votes needed to overcome a blocking move.

  5. And the new threshold for participation that Michael Bennet (and others) won't reach.  Politico says five already meet them:

To make the December debate, candidates must hit 4 percent support in at least four DNC-approved polls of primary voters nationally or in early-voting states (Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada or South Carolina) — or, instead, they can qualify by hitting 6 percent in two approved early-state polls. Candidates must also bring in donations from 200,000 unique donors, with a minimum of 800 donors in 20 states, territories or the District of Columbia.

  6. NEW: Biden camp dropping its discouragement of outside super PAC. In statement to NBC, @KBeds says: "It is not surprising that those who are dedicated to defeating Donald Trump are organizing in every way permitted by current law to bring an end to his disastrous presidency."

    — Mike Memoli (@mikememoli) October 24, 2019

Biden has been fairly consistent in his opposition to super PACs. In his memoir, “Promise Me, Dad,” he writes that he would have “reject[ed] the super PAC system” had he run for president in 2016.

“I knew there was big money out there for me,” Biden writes. “But I also knew people were sick of it all. ‘We The People’ didn’t ring so true anymore. It was more like ‘We The Donors.’”

  7. No one has yet reported a site for tomorrows — Saturday — Pols meetup, which starts at 2.  To avoid chaos or default, I propose the original site, Lowdown Brewery, 800 Lincoln St, which is close to many of us and has free parking just north of the building.

The on site brews are excellent.  If Curmudgeon shows, I'll even buy him one.

As a special attraction, Sarah Huckabee Sanders will provide free lap dances for anyone in a MaGA hat.

      1. Yawn. This is just a distraction from $rump’s pending impeachment.

Prosecutor Durham is known for being careful, thorough, and non-partisan. This investigation could take years, and it may not have the result you’re obviously hoping for, any more than “But her emails!” And “Benghazi!!” did.

        1. That’s what you call whistling past the graveyard.

          Years, I don’t think so.

Impeachment…..yawn. The Senate will never, never, never convict. Just like Bill Clinton, Trump will be even stronger.

          1. Trump never had a 73% approval rating.  Hell, he never had a 50% approval rating in a legitimate poll.

I guess "stronger" is a relative term.  Especially when he wasn't strong to begin with.  That's what happens when you actively alienate everybody who isn't totally with you.

        1. Hey Pols, I doubt you will take any action. Can you look my account and fix the bug that requires me to log out multiple times in order to comment. After all it’s in your best interest to generate clicks.

      2. Yep … like those FBI indictments of Clinton coming ANY DAY NOW on her email.  Or the certain findings of the DC police on the murder of the staffer, linking that back to Clinton.  Or the somewhat confusing idea that a pizza parlor was serving as a sex with minors transfer point bringing down Mueller & co.

Or, more likely, the FBI's new officials bringing charges against Andrew McCabe for … something, something … and apparently NOT getting past a grand jury.

        REAL CONSEQUENCES. REAL LIKELY.

  8. "Trump Organization said to be weighing sale of D.C. hotel lease"

Maybe he could sell it to Putin for $1,000.

Or to someone who needs a pardon or deal for 10x the real value.

Since he's rich, making the Constitution fake, maybe he could just give it back to the taxpayers (GSA).

    1. Or they could sell it and give the proceeds to all the cities and states he's stiffed for security and services for his endless campaign events.
