    1. I checked out Leguizamo’s reading list for “Latin History”. I thought I was pretty well versed in indigenous and Latinx history, but had only read half a dozen of those books.

“Chicano History” didn’t;t exist when I was in school, even though Denver was ground zero for El Movimiento activists- the American GI forum, the original West High School “walkout”, Corky and Nita Gonzalez, Su Teatro….all these were part of Denver’s cultural landscape in the late 60s/ early 70s- yet most public school students never heard of them.

The (European immigrant) pioneers bravely overcame the savage Indian menace, and Manifest Destiny was a glorious thing. This is what we were taught. The great Regis Groff (before he was a Senator) taught an African American History class, and I do vaguely remember some Mexican history taught in an advanced Spanish class.

It hasn’t changed all that much, sad to say.

      1. Don't forget Sal Carpio who taught at Kepner and mentored a friend of mine as a teacher and his students about their history and heritage. He also did a very good Chicano History class at DU when I was there.

  1. Today is Indigenous Peoples’ Day and Columbus Day and Canadian Thanksgiving.

Denver is among more than 100 cities and eight (some articles say there are 10) states with a celebration of . Colorado continues to celebrate Columbus day. I may need to be neutral in the battle and have burritos for dinner.

Harris and Castro have weighed in with tweets supporting #IndigenousPeoplesDay. I've not seen more.

  2. Latest Iowa poll (firehouse) is amazing.  Warren 25, Biden 22, Buttigieg 17, Sanders 5!

Huge surge by edgyboots. Heart attack really hurt the very old white guy.

    1. It gets worse
      – Football causes CTE (brain damage)
      – the med school physicians are only on the list because they practice

What the hell with Alaska and Delaware?!

    2. And the figures which produce this "coach heavy" map are likely the official payments from the states … and not " payments in consideration for: shoe and apparel use; television, radio or other media appearances; personal appearances."

AND "does not include amounts that may have been earned as annual incentive bonuses in other years, the value of standard university benefits such as health care or the value of potentially taxable items such as cars; country club memberships; game tickets for the regular season, postseason and other sports; the value of stadium suites, travel upgrades or spouse/family travel and game tickets"

    1. When he's elected, Hick can point out, "Hey, I wrote that I WANT to bring an unrelenting focus on combating climate change and growing a green economy; never said I would actually DO it."

        1. What a putz!!

I guess we’ve gotten so used to having one constantly lying Republican Senator here, that Team Hick’ has decided to use that model as their template??

This is probably what I can’t stand most about this guy: he clearly knows the right things to do; he says mostly the right things; he usually has oodles of political capital to expend; and when it comes time to actually do anything, he’ll always hedge, waffle, equivocate, avoid any risk, study the matter, form a committee to look at the issue giving equal weight to the liars’ faction, and then ultimately deliver little or nothing that the electorate hasn’t drug him to (and then claim that as a best-possible victory, and evidence of his Hickstraordinary charge-leading).

Yeah, admittedly, he’s better than Gardner — like that’s some kind of high bar? I’m more than a little tired of being regularly and reliably disappointed by this guy.

          1. Yes…he is better than Gardner..

            but just barely.

His candidacy is an insult to every Coloradan. A cynical slap in the face to every Democrat.

"No…I don't want to be a senator, I wanna be president. I wouldn't be very good as a senator."

"Oh, wait. Whattaya mean, I can't be president.? Well, then. I wanna be a senator."

            Sincerity ain't his strong suit.
