    But the crazy people have awoken to piss the rest of us off.

    It's easy to argue that there is neither logic nor justice in having Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina or Nevada define the momentum and direction of the presidential primary.  So what – that's not changing in this cycle.

    The five so called front runners for the D nomination are the only ones anyone is talking about in these five states.

    Biden, Buttigieg, Harris, Sanders, Warren

    No Bennet. No Klobuchar. No Yang. No Booker, Steyer, Gabbard, Beto or Castro. Making the stage Tuesday is an arbitrary and pointless metric. 

    Likely viability March 3 is all we should care about.
    And the real math hasn't even begun. Of those likely to still be viable – the real calculation is who is most likely to win the electoral math. 
    And – damn that slave protecting bullshit electoral thingy is not the way to do it this time.

    2016 Trump states commonly thought to be in play: PA, MI, WI
    And that would be enough.

    AZ thinks they are in play cuz Sinema, but the governor won by a large, safe margin and AZ is voting for Trump. Florida cannot count democratic votes – Trump.

    WI and MI should be the easiest flip, unless some lefty spoiler shows up or hangs on.

    PA: eastern PA is going to vote blue, just like 2016. And while I cannot understand why any family farmer would vote for Trump again, western PA is going to vote with OH, IN and KY.

    So how about this –
    WI and MI flip – and AZ pulls the rabbit out of the hat.  A 269 tie.
    The House votes to impeach by representative (CA has 53 reps), but votes for president by state (CA counts as 1).

    I believe the Senate will not vote to impeach. Maybe 1 or 2, but nowhere near 20+

    However, if they don’t get President Pence to do the pardons, and then Trump loses… most D administrations will prosecute aggressively and not many pardons. Are there senators that are exposed?
     

    1. Quibble: that should be slavery-protecting, not “slave-protecting”. Protected slaves would not be enslaved. 

      Florida felons could still vote if the governor’s amendment forcing them to pay all fees and fines first is made doable, instead of an administrative nightmare . If that happens, Florida will turn blue. 

      Don't count Arizona out- it’s trending purple.

      Other than that, I agree with your prognostications.

      1. I agree on the slave- slavery distinction. But it sounds closer to what I hear the way I wrote it.

        AZ is not trending anything but hot.
        No one can explain away the governor winning by a solid double digit margin without resorting to "bad candidate."
        Doucey was a bad candiate too – but he had the requisite R. Trump wins AZ.

        Florida felons?
        Ain't gonna pay. and would still vote R.
        Florida is not going to flip on Trump.
        I'll bet beverage of choice and meetup co-coordinator if Trump loses Florida.

We had a good meetup at LowDown.  It's not too crowded or noisy.  Has good brews and food, and plenty of room.  Parking can be a bit of a hassle (street only, on Lincoln — might explain why they never seem busy). Correction: Free, yes FREE, parking is available just north of our building.

                They are open everyday after 11am.

                  1. Sorry I didn't get back to this thread earlier. It was a crazy day. Typical Monday;the house was a wreck, Not typical Monday; I waited all day for a grocery delivery that I thought was scheduled for 9-11 this morning; turned our Karen scheduled it for P.M.! And to put the cherry on it, we changed our DSL to Verizon, and CenturyLink killed our landline as well. Yeah, it was that kind of day.surprise 
                    Back to the meet-up, later on that Saturday might work; or earlier. 

    2. There are so many ways this could go. I am not sure which is the most likely because the voters of 2019/2020 are not like the ones in 1973/1974.

      1. Trumpers stay strong, Biden is the nominee. "But his son," is the, "but her emails," and even the Republicans offended by Trump come home because "Demmycrats are just as corrupt and they're gay loving, immigrant coddling, socialists" even though the Ds try to run for the center for the whole campaign. Moderates and conservatives blame Sanders even though he endorsed Biden. Democrats do take both MI and WI, but lose PA narrowly. Even though as much as 55% of Americans think Trump should be removed from office Trump gets the exact same approval he has had for almost his entire presidency.

      2. Trumpers stay strong, but turn out by occasional Democratic Party supporters and offended moderates is strong just as in 2018. They vote for moderate Dems and socialist Dems up and down the ballot purely as a vote against His Fraudulency. He is not removed from office, but attempts to give himself a pardon run aground due to state charges. However he never actually sees the inside of a jail cell due to protracted litigation. "Partisan prosecutions" or something like it is the continual cry of Republicans and once he's not at the top of the ticket the coalition fractures with many people staying home in 2022 giving the House back to Republicans.

      3. Eventually so much crap comes out that a few undoubted Republicans panic. Trump's approval finally dips to under 33% and after attacking the first few all of a sudden there is a rush to at least criticize him. Then His Fraudulencey does something dumb that, in the atmosphere of dislike, is treated as a serious thing instead of, "oh, boys will be boys," like usual. Suddenly the articles of impeachment are a serious business and the Senate actually takes up a trial. The core of supporters stay true and there is chaos. Court battles, rumors of the 25th getting invoked, and a few whakadoodles make credible threats against Senators and government buildings. Trump gives an order that is actually ignored by the military with generals calling it "illegal". Trump becomes the first president to be removed from office. Pence may or may not be caught up in the undertow. Trumpers fight back and a core of about 20-22% refuse to vote for Republicans who did not back His Fraudulencey. Moderate Republicans get taken down by Dems in Senate races all over the place. Markets are spooked and a genuine recession starts. The Democratic nominee wins in a cake walk due to the split between Trumpers and Conservatives.

  3. Good news and bad news from Fox. 

    First, the bad: As the Mango Maniac gloated in his morning tweet storm, Shep Smith, prime time Anchor,  Trump fact checker, and authentic journalist, was forced to resign, after AG William Barr met with the network’s CEO, Rupert Murdoch.

    Let that marinate…The Attorney General of the United States, in a whirlwind of  lawsuits, impeachment investigations, and a Constitutional crisis, is visiting with an entertainment/ opinion network about … the Fox poll showing majority support for impeachment?  Nobody knows except Murdoch and Barr. But it doesn’t bode well for freedom of the press.

    Now, the good news:

    1. The split between Fox and Smith has been a long time coming. The Trumpers may have encouraged the final nudge out the window, but Smith has been at odds with the network ever since The Yam took office.

  5. I feel so much better today knowing that Hunter Biden has announced that he will stop using his fathers white privilege and resign from the various Chinese boards of directors, and his other foreign entanglements.
     
    Now that Hunter can rely on his own white privilege, I hear there are many, minimum wage opportunities that await in the fast food industry.

      How about that senator's wife who is grafting the highway budget?
      Or the guy who owns all those overpriced hotel rooms that he makes his foreign counterparts stay in, not mention his subordinates?

    But anti-immigrant political rhetoric, high-profile incidences of gun violence and impending changes to the “investor visa” program have encouraged Hong Kong’s would-be emigres to consider alternatives such as Australia, Canada and Singapore.

    Even before the protest movement began, the U.S. was losing luster. In a December survey by Chinese University of Hong Kong, one-third of the city’s citizens said they’d consider leaving. Among them, the most popular destinations were Canada and Australia, with at least 18% of respondents each, followed by Taiwan at 11% and Singapore at 5%. The U.S. was the top choice for only 2.9%. In 2018, Canada had its biggest influx of immigrants since 1913.

      As mayor, I have a responsibility to protect free speech, even from a president whose rhetoric and policies I find reprehensible. However, it is not my responsibility to subsidize it.

      One constant in Trump’s public and private careers? He doesn’t like paying his bills. Just ask the cities of El Paso, Tucson or Lebanon, Ohio, all of which are still waiting for the president to pick up his tab for costs their cities incurred hosting his campaign events. Just as some of the cities are large and some are small, so are the expenses and the unpaid bills — $570,000 from El Paso, $16,200 from Lebanon.

      When the president learned that Minneapolis was seeking reimbursement, he did not call me directly to discuss details. He did not seek to better understand the terms of the contract. He took to Twitter to make threats, inflame his base ahead of the event and lash out at me and the diverse city I represent.

      At this point, the matter remains a stand-off: The booking agent is still seeking payment from the Trump campaign, and our position continues to be that the city should be reimbursed.
