Alice Madden Dropping Out of Senate Race

  • by: Colorado Pols

Today is Dropout Friday, apparently. Former House Majority Leader Alice Madden is ending her bid for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate:

Madden’s Senate candidacy was really just getting started by the time it became clear that Gov. John Hickenlooper would be entering the race. Hickenlooper’s overwhelming advantage in both name ID and fundraising made it hard for Madden to find a lane for her own campaign.

  1. Alice was the only other candidate besides Hick worth a shit.

Now the Bernie Bros need to figure out that Romanoff is a flim-flam so we can get on to beating Cory.

  2. Romanoff is no flim-flam, he is one of the fairest and most decent people I've met in 50 years of covering Colorado politics.

Alice is one of the smartest people I know and would have been a great senator.  But with eight women running her base was badly fractured.

Yeah, I know, politics sucks.  But thanks for at least showing up, Alice.  You lent grace and dignity to this race.

  3. Hickenlooper versus non-Hickenlooper is becoming clearer.  Fundraising reports due by October 15 ought to provide a rough estimation of chances.

Hope those who have dropped out will continue to find other public service — and that one or more of them can be considered the next time there is a Senatorial opening.

  4. Madden would have made a fine U.S. Senator, far better than either Coreless or Frackenfucker, but had exactly zero shot at getting elected. With regard to the Senate race, Colorado Dems are getting closer to coronation territory each day.
