Trump Gives Hickenlooper The Best Welcome Gift He Has

  • by: Colorado Pols

President Trump and Sen. Cory Gardner.

CBS4 Denver reports:

President Donald Trump reacted on Thursday to John Hickenlooper’s announced bid for U.S. Senate. Hickenlooper made the announcement early Thursday morning.

Trump tweeted his support for Sen. Cory Gardner, the Republican incumbent, saying that he “has done a fantastic job representing the people of Colorado.” And that “He really knows how to win.”

President Donald Trump considers his Twitter account to be his greatest public relations asset, and has used the platform to break major news in addition to offending just about everyone on the planet possibly excepting Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un. There’s no question that Tweeting another glowing endorsement of Sen. Cory Gardner seems like a good idea to Trump–but in a state trending strongly away from the GOP brand in the Trump era, fresh off a landslide victory in Colorado for Democrats in 2018 broadly considered a referendum on Trump’s chaotic presidency, there’s a solid argument that this helps John Hickenlooper vastly more.

With the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) now single-mindedly blasting away at Hickenlooper, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) throwing their weight behind Hickenlooper today, and Trump broadcasting who Republicans fear most in this race, Hick can only say thanks to friend and foe alike.

  1. So. Much. Winning.  Clearly we need to re-elect a senator who votes with this dimwit 90% of the time

China retaliates with tariffs of $75 billion on US Goods

The US-China trade war ratcheted up yet again on Friday, with Beijing unveiling a new round of retaliatory tariffs on about $75 billion worth of US goods.

China will place tariffs of 5% or 10% on US imports starting on September 1st, according to a statement posted by China's Finance Ministry.

The Ministry also announced plans to resume tariffs on US imports of automobiles and automobile parts. The tariffs would be 25% or 5%, and would take effect on December 15th.

    1. I expect Powerful Pear and Moderatus/PodestaEMails/SoiledBlueDress to be laying low following Trump's "hearty" endorsement in the Senate race.

With friends like Deep State Donald and Moscow Mitch, the co-Kings of the Swamp, Colorado Republican leaders don't need enemies.

      1. We can expect our little beauty queen to be triggered on a daily basis henceforth (or at least until the Cabinet invokes the 25th or those Big Macs take their toll.)  His entire familial budget benefits from the largess of the American taxpayer (the other half thanks to the appointment powers of a certain occupant of 1600 Penn and the support of our junior senator).  Expect him to become more and more unhinged as this unfolds. There won't be a dry cleaner in Pueblo able to return that dress to its original glory once this national nightmare ends.

    2. Trump is pushing our economy into a nosedive, and to avoid the inevitable smoking hole, all he can do is yell at Powell of the Fed to dig faster to make room for his "landing".

“While monetary policy is a powerful tool that works to support consumer spending, business investment, and public confidence, it cannot provide a settled rule book for international trade,” said Mr. Powell, who spoke in Jackson, Wyo., at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City’s annual symposium.

“Our challenge now is to do what monetary policy can do to sustain the expansion” to achieve the Fed’s goals of low unemployment and stable inflation, he had said earlier in the speech.

Mr. Powell’s remarks drew a swift and angry reaction from Mr. Trump, who equated the Fed leader with the president’s adversary in the trade war, President Xi Jinping of China.

“My only question is, who is our bigger enemy, Jay Powell or Chairman Xi?,” Mr. Trump wrote in one of a series of Twitter posts.

        1. Good article.  In contrast to Trump, who is a mendacious fool, Hoover actually was a successful businessman in his own right, and sincerely believed in his policies, as misguided as they were for the times.

Does anyone have any confidence that Trump believes in anything he does or says?

Trump conceded regret about escalating trade war with China, then reversed course, saying he wished he’d raised the tariffs higher

Pressed early Sunday if he was rethinking the way tensions had escalated between the two countries, President Trump responded, “Yeah, sure why not. Might as well. Might as well. I have second thoughts about everything.”

White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham released a statement hours later saying the president's comments had been "misinterpreted."

"President Trump responded in the affirmative — because he regrets not raising the tariffs higher,” she said.

    1. Good morning, beautiful. Do you have a specific point with this post? Or this is a better way to make an extra $20 bucks before lunch than your usual sorid activites? (while you’re on the taxpayer’s clock).

    2. Hey Buddy.

Here is a riddle for you:

Q: What do Andrew Romanoff and John Hickenlooper have in common?

A:  They would both be infinitely better Senators than Cory Gardner.

BTW, you can thank Trump for reminding the voters of the state of Colorado of that fact.

      1. It's almost like our beauty-queen-moonlighting-as-a-federal-employee missed the part where his savior promised everyone the best health care in the world AND told us we'd have the cleanest air and water under his Sadministraiton (if we'd just go back to the good ol' days of coal)

    3. Interesting — Soiled Blue Dress (nice referent — the one I've seen most recently was a photo of Jeremy Epstein lounging in one)

      1. follows Romanoff on Twitter, apparently.

      2. tweet now shows

      • 28 people talking about it

      3. an interesting labeling of Hickenlooper's entry as "Washington's will" — not certain Romanoff doing that would be as helpful as letting other people make the case.

        1. If by Washington you mean Larry Dan Maes Curly Tancredo Moe ‘Standing by a horses ass’ Bob Beauprez you just might be on to something 😂
