UPDATE: Here’s the link to the AP story (thanks Iron Mike!):
Republican Marc Holtzman’s campaign has reportedly been found guilty of coordination for the “If C Wins, You Lose” committee and fined a paltry $4,000. This will be a minor PR hit in the short term, and the Bob Beauprez campaign may try to use the news stories in some attack ads, but otherwise it went away with a whimper.

The Associated Press is carrying the story that Holtzman was found guilty of violating campaign finance laws. Regardless of the size of the fine, his campaign is sunk.
sure, just like all the other times he was “sunk.”
Unconfirmed rumor – Holtzman has failed to make the ballot due to lack of valid signatures in CD1.
I guess we will hear something more official soon.
Am thinking not really. What’s small? Anything less than 10k would make this a frivolous lawsuit.
Is the Trailhead Group’s coordination with Ed Token Jones’ campaign next?
Fat Chance, Holtzy’s campaign was sunk the first time he opened his mouth. Silver spooned, connected rich kid with a lot of daddy money who belongs nowhere near the govs mansion. That two million could have actually been spent on something useful.

There, now do you have your three-year-old inner child out of your system now?
It’s not racist, as you obviously wish to allude, to point out that Token Jones is, in fact, a token black elected Republican official. It’s this little thing called “telling the truth.”
If you can’t take the truth, get out of the political kitchen.

$4K? That’s it? Jeeze, I could practically cover that myself. I guess the judge doesn’t think this is too much of a social/political sin.
I have half a mind to run an issue committee next year and then primary my old buddy Wayne for his seat in the Senate.
Well hopefully I’m not going to commit the social sin of a double post, but to me it looked like my first one got scrubbed as spam.

So Holtzman got hit by a $4K fine?
Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, HAAA! That’s too funny!
I mean jeeze, I could cover that one myself! I guess the judge wasn’t too impressed by the nature of the violation huh?
I’m half tempted to blatantly start up an issue committee myself next year and then primary my old buddy Wayne for his Senate seat. I mean if that is the worst fine that will be imposed…
So if Holtzman were to get the nomination, no doubt the Dems would give him a pass on his campaign violtations because the fine wasn’t big enough?
Oh please, this wasn’t about guilt or innocence… Beauprez and Durham (and obviously Brown Bear 123) were hoping for a $2 MIL fine! Something to really take the steam out of Marc’s run.
And if the DEMs do come after him he pulls a Ghandi… “He had to violate the law to fight Ref. C”… “He though Ref C was/is the greater crime against the people of Colorado!”… and that.
I assume Marky will appeal the decision which should delay a final decision until sometime in 2008. Marky, keep on truckin’
Two wrongs make a right? Holtzman, throughout his career has been a liar, a cheat and hack. He has repeatedly caught on this campaign for one vioaltion after another. He campaigns like thief.
Will Sunbarger be fined for coordinating with Trailhead? Or will BM?
Mike, wake up and smell the coffee. The steam is out of Marc’s run, the wind is out of the sails, the cows are coming home, the fat lady has sung, etc. Nothing but his own ego and money is keeping this guy in the race.
When you campaign full time for almost a year and are that well financed and you can’t even get 30% of your own faithful ( or what you thought were your own faithful) at the caucus it is time to pack up.
This guy dropped a phenomenal turd in the punchbowl of the Republican party (because, WAAAH, no one loves me) and he isn’t done yet. Unbelievable.
They need to change the name of Trailhead. I keep picturing Monica Lewinsky backpacking………call it what it really is: the Committee of Straight White Rich Old Men Desperate To Elect Both Ways Gov!
Stay classy, Marc Holtzman.
Sec of State to announce that Holtzman did not get enough valid signatures in all counties to make the ballot, Holtzman has vowed to fight the ruling “all the way to the Colorado Supreme Court”.
Marc, it is time to realize that you gave this your best shot, and you were able to get your message out. Now it is time to help the GOP, the party of your mentor, Ronald Reagan, and step aside. I believe you are better served to take your amazing business sense and serve in another capacity.
As Holtzman said today in an interview today the fine is equalivent to a “Political Parking Ticket.” He felt Ref C was wrong and would do it again to defend the taxpayers.
Tricky Dick, where are you getting your info? I haven’t seen anything official on the SOS.
Considering Gigi Dennis’s previous record in the “non-partisan” department, I’d say Holtzman is probably wise to challenge the results if it is indeed true that he failed to make certification.
Bystander, I’m glad to hear Holtzman say that; it’s good to know your potential governor is okay with breaking the law for what he feels is the right cause. Sounds a lot like Bush.
Bystander – you expect to see anything at all on the SOS website? You’ve obviously mistaken Gigi’s office for some other state’s… So far every single petition certification announcement has come from the campaigns themselves.
Phoenix, did you send your check into Pat Waak and Ritter today?
Rocky Mountain News is reporting the SOS story.
Can Holtzman still run as an independent petition candidate in Nov.?
Gigi Dennis was appointed by the Chairman of Trailhead, Gov. Billy. Why would you think my best friend Gee would do ANYTHING to help her apointer? Geeg is an honorable woman, she takes her position seriously, just about as seriously as wearing a prom queen crown in front of the Colorado Senate when she was a Senator. HEY, Geeg was just having some fun with her fellow Senators, and yes, SHE REALLY WAS A PROM QUEEN, so there, all you male chauvinist pigs. She’s smart, she’s pretty, she has a crown, she’s the SECRECTARY OF STATE and can and will count those signature any old way she wants. You go girl.

Sally, no need to post your hatred for a fellow republican twice, your making us look bad.
Tricky, I have no hatred. What would possibly make you say that? As for the TWICE, please email ColoradoPols about the lag time on their server, OR, better YET why don’t little ol’ you read their posts on the main page about their server problems. You’re a cutey Tricky and god knows I always thought you were the man, but c’mon, give a girl a break. Hugs and kisses Dick.
holtzman did not get on ballot. Check link.

I was waiting for my paycheck to clear tomorrow before sending in my contribution checks. I’m interested in helping candidates who represent my interests, and I’m involved in the Dem. Party – does posting on this blog mean I shouldn’t be a part of grassroots campaign contributions?
PS – here’s the RMN story on Holtzman. Guess it’s just Both Ways Bob in November. Or a really screwed and embarassed GOP machine.
Sally, would you like to elaborate any further on your statement on Rachel Sunbarger and her activities in coordinating efforts between the Trailhead Group and the State GOP from the “Karl Rove In Drag” thread? Because if it is true, you realise that is a major violation of election law and the consequences would likely be much larger than the handslap 4k fine that Holtzman recieved.
looks like Marc came up SHORT once again!!
somebody had to say it….
Sux darling, Parody, satire and OPINION are all protected speech by virtue of many Supreme Court rulings regarding the Amendment NUMBER ONE. SUX, this is the most important thing about defamation, i.e. libel and slander, Truth is an absolute defense for claims of defamation. Sweetie this is the second time you’ve asked lil ol’ me to get you some HARD EVIDENCE against my bud Rachael. To paraphrase one of my heroes, “Not gon’a do it, nope”. (George Bush, the Dad) Go get your own evidence depose Rachael, depose Gov. Billy or the Great Wizard of OZ Bruce Benson, or Bob Martinez. I’m not going to do your work for you honey, you go get вЂem. My comments all fall within the scope of satire, parody and opinion, all protected free speech. I LOVE this country.
Zing! Snark quote of the week to ‘haha’.
I really fail to see the satire or parody in your comments, especially since you clearly said that you were “not going to do your work for you (me)”, that you would be unwilling to give any sort of evidence against “your bud” as you call her. Seeing that you are such a passionate GOPer I don’t know why you would want to make up anything like that, especially in a contentious election year. Didn’t an individual working closely with one of the GOP campaign resign because it was discovered that he was making up facts in comments to newspapers. Thank you for the fodder though, the rest of my friends and I really appreciate it.
Sux sweetie, you may not have noticed but PASSIONATE Republicans are very divided about who to support in this race for the Governor’s office. There are a many good and true GOPer’s that don’t want to support the annointed candidate, Bob B. Passion is what this particular race is all about. I’m going to take the “Thank you for the fodder though, the rest of my friends and I really appreciate it.” as a threat. It’s childish Suxie, I post under my true name, you post under some silly nom de plume and you threaten lil ol’ moi? How very macho, manly and unchivalrous of you. Gon’a beat up the girl? Sweetie, I DO NOT work for any campaign, so your, “Didn’t an individual working closely with one of the GOP campaign resign because it was discovered that he was making up facts in comments to newspapers.” doesn’t even make any sense. What you want me to resign as a nurse? You are VERY correct in your statement that this is,”a contentious election year.” But honey, contention is what politics is all about. You’ve got your opinion, I’ve got mine. You’ve got your candidate, I’ve got mine. At the end of the day sweetie, I hope you and your “friends” keep in mind, you threatened a girl. What a great big tough guy you are.
Hey, you took it as a threat. The comment about the individual in the campaign was not to allude that you worked for anyone in particular, rather it was made to show that an individual, if they are making false statements about any race are subject to possible legal sanctions. I don’t believe the statute requires that an individual work for a camspaign in order to be held accountable. Your reaction however is quite intresting because it leaves me to believe that you may indeed have something to hide or at the very least recognize the err in planting the seed, by suggesting that there was coordination between the Trailhead Group and the State GOP.
FYI “sweetie”, thank you for setting “us gals” back a century or two with your cutsie high school approach to political discourse, I would hope that someone as “intelligent” and “sucessful” as yourself could rise above that. My suggestion…put down the Ann Coulter and Michelle Malkin books. For all you male posters hoping for a Conservative female vs. Liberal female catfight here, take a cold shower. Thx “hon”.
NEWSFLASH: MH is a snake. This surprises people?
“What I did was to exercise my privilege of free speech,” Holtzman said.
“What I have been asked to do today is the equivalent of a tax on free speech. And the second thing I would say is that it is, in my view, the political equivalent of a parking ticket, and if a $4,000 parking ticket is what it costs to stand up for working families in Colorado and to oppose that tax, I would gladly do it again.”
SERIOUSLY???? This guy needs to be in a clinic in Switzerland, with a team of doctors working around the clock to save what’s left of his mind. This whole “fighting for the little guy” sh1t is getting a bit tired, no?
In a wierd way I’m gonna miss him when he’s gone. But not really.
Looks like Sally is drinking Merlot again, good night gril.
MrHandy2001, Marc’s bus has finally driven off the cliff, please notfiy next of kin.
I actually saw the bus heading off a cliff from a mile away. I was thinking about putting laura teal in charge of casual male…see if she can bankrupt it faster than my boy did with jewelcor. let the games begin!!!
Anyone who thinks the *&%&^@$# campaign finance laws in CO are constitutional is out of his mind. Not to mention, that “false statement” law is as well, and will be struck down once someone with enough of a pair challenges it.
JoseSixPack, You and MrHandy2001 both need to switch to decafe.
