Colorado Pols: One of "10 True Stand-Out" State Blogs In Country

  • by: Colorado Pols

Colorado Pols is now part of The Washington Post Political Blog Network, and according to them, we’re one of the 10 “stand-outs” among state-based political blogs in whole darn country:

A few years back, we started to build an internal list of political blogs based in the states that always gave us fresh and smart news and analysis about the goings-on across the country.

We took our love of state-based political blogs public — asking Fixistas for their recommendations about the best of the best in the states. And, boy did you respond!

Those recommendations formed the foundation of the Washington Post Political Blog Network, which launched today. Bookmark it!

We’ve started with 10 of the true stand-outs [Pols emphasis] and hope to broaden out the blog network to a bunch more states as we go.

So check us out on The Washington Post Political Blog Network. And if you feel like advertising on such a cool site, email us at ads@coloradopols.com.

  1. And I agree, Colorado Pols is one of the best state politics blogs in the nation – and there are some good ones in the running.

Their larger 50-state blog list is also informative.  Good job by the Washington Post in collecting their list and putting it up for their readers.

    1. Does that mean I define the far end of the spectrum? Cool! (Especially if its the end opposite to ol’ Tatterbell, who I agree adds a certain je ne sais quoi to the whole enterprise. Or maybe it’s a certain el ne sait rien…).

      Congrats Pols, and fellow Polsters!

      1. do probably represent the opposite ends of the poster style, the thoughtful and well-reasoned (if not necessarily succinct) vs. the visceral and cut-and-paste.  But Libby, unlike some of our shills and trolls, does have staying power and I consider him usually within the pale of reasonable disagreement.

        1. paranoid delusions about mass conspiracies being within the pale, then ok.  Everybody is entitled to believe that thousands of independent scientists are all in on one ginormous hoax, that they speak with one voice and share one mind, somehow quell internal dissent, and aren’t interested in their science but actually only interested in socialism and destroying the global economy.  Then ok.

          1. I just spent way too much time debating a cluster of wingnuts on Shawn Mitchell’s facebook page, and all I can say is, Libertad actually seems sane by comparison. We’re talking tinfoil hats, waiting for the mother ship, sillyputtyforbrains, whack-o-rama. One woman assured me that Jamestown was the first socialist society, and that’s why they starved to death (I told her that it was hard to be so wrong on so many levels in so few words). And that was pretty typical of the entire level of discourse. There’s an amazing, scary, braindead other world out there, and maybe we need to have a Libertad or two to keep reminding us of it.

  2. I know I find this blog special. Really keeps up with all the breaking local and national stories.  Lots of great, smart people who provide solid resources. But it’s also more fun than most blogs with more kidding among friends and frenemies. And there actually are frenemies.  We may be left leaning but we do have rightie regulars, too. And it’s not one of those blogs where everyone takes themselves seriously to the point of deadly dullness, something I find on a lot of overly earnest left leaning blogs.

  3. even though we don’t always agree which put’s me in the “frenemies” category (I hope) according to BC.

Because I have such strong ties to the state of Washington I had to laugh about Horses Asses on their list of blogs.  Guess I’ll have to check it out.

  4. One great thing about this community, to me, is the maturity of the majority of posters. We all lose our temper now and again, yours truly being as guilty as the next person, but there seems to be a high degree of responsibility among the regular users to police the site.

Adult language is not frowned upon unless it is rude and inappropriate, I like that. I hate censorship, and I think Pols does a great job of keeping it real here. Jerks are dealt with swiftly and decisively.

It also pleases me that sticking to the subject of a thread is held in high regard and that there seems to be a widely held intention to focus on good writing.

Bullshit seems to have a short lifespan here,… I learn a LOT,…but I guess the thing I enjoy most about this site is there are some seriously funny people on this little cyberplanet.

    Thanks for letting me play.

  5. Kurt Vonnegut whose sublime satire serves as inspiration for everyone who aspires to take themselves less seriously.

In his book Cats Cradle on the destruction of the planet due to Ice-Nine, he introduced the religion of Bokononism and the concept of the Granfalloon.

    From Wikipedia definition of Granfalloon:

A group of people who outwardly choose or claim to have a shared identity or purpose, but whose mutual association is actually meaningless.

Nothing like nihilistic satire to right a liberals ego.
