  1. According to Jennifer Rubin in the WAPO, things are changing among Hispanics.

    An important breakthrough for Hispanic voters

    “In Arizona nearly 3 in 10 new registered voters were Hispanic. In Colorado 1 in 5 new registered voters were Hispanic. In New Mexico nearly half of all new registered voters were Hispanic. In North Carolina the number of Hispanic registered voters grew +28% while Non-Hispanics declined -4%.” (Emphasis in the original.) …

    Hispanic voters delivered reliable and consequential increases in voter participation on average almost doubling turnout across these 7 key states

    Independent/Other Hispanic voters were especially energized to go the polls, more than doubling turnout in these states on average

    Growth in the number of Hispanic voters aged 18-24 tripled on average across AZ, CO, GA, NM, NC, OH, and PA.

    The impact of all this turnout? 

    In 2018, Democrats captured 69 percent of the Hispanic vote (73 percent of Hispanic women), compared with 90 percent of blacks and 44 percent of whites.

Kudo's to Senator Bennet for laying the groundwork for our current hemp industry (It was Jared's work on the House language and the Senator's work in the Farm Bill conference committee in Dec., '13) that made this industry even possible.  Even with our success, federal regulators are still a significant hindrance to our growth.  Hemp was descheduled under the 2018 Farm Bill and reclassified as an agricultural crop. 

    American Bankers Association Demands Answers About Hemp And CBD

    In a similar letter to federal regulators this month, Sen. Michael Bennet (D-CO) also complained about the continued lack of access to banking services for hemp producers. The 2020 Democratic presidential candidate said he hopes the agencies “can work expeditiously and in a coordinated manner to issue guidance describing how financial institutions can offer financial products and services to hemp formers and processors.”

    But so far, the closest the regulators have come to assuaging the concerns of banks is a statement from a top Federal Reserve official who said during a Senate hearing earlier this month that “hemp is not an illegal crop.”

    1. Michael, since we know Bennet is only going to be in the race for a short time (maybe through Iowa), do you know if he is he trying to put this bug in the ear of an "in it to win it candidate"?

      1. Michael has been a real champion of the industry from the early days; Ed P has also been a champ and uses his voice on the House Financial Services Committee to promote the industry.  On the marijuana side of the fence I know our alum Whiskey Lima Juliet has met personally with the women POTUS candidates and has had a noticeable influence on their positions.  

        All this disconnect at the agency level is frustrating but we're getting there.  When I look through the lens of politicians and regulators (mostly DEA) who said six years ago that federal legalization was never going to happen, we're getting the last laugh.  

        1. It has taken the buy in from the banks, insurance companies, Big Ag and others to push the issue to the tipping point. Big Pharma, Private Prisons, and the entrenched anti-drug agencies and NGOs fought aggressively, but ultimately, the money is too big for the banks and insurance companies to resist. They will move Congress.

          Do I see this correctly, Michael? You know the subject as well as anyone I know.

    If the poll included Griswold, why not Hickenlooper anyway?

    "He's his own universe and it doesn't take a poll for us to know that if John Hickenlooper got into the U.S. Senate race, he would poll significantly higher than all of these people," Hubbard said.

    He said to the best of his knowledge, the poll was not done on behalf of Griswold.

    "This poll was done on behalf of a PAC that is looking at Colorado and other states that are highly targeted," said Hubbard.

    That PAC is "Next Senate PAC," a political action committee that was created in June.

    According to the campaign finance records for Next Senate PAC, seven people — all in Colorado — contributed $24,500 to Next Senate PAC. Of the seven, six of them contributed to Griswold's Secretary of State race.

    In that data — which looks like a hard to read excel file — there is a column entitled "Swich to Jena." Yes, it said "swich" and not "switch."

    A pollster who spoke with Next said that a column like that would imply that there was specific information told about Griswold and then the person being polled would be asked if they would switch to Griswold from the candidate they first said.

    Politicians Don’t Actually Care What Voters Want

    Over the past two years, we conducted a study to find out. We provided state legislators in the United States with access to highly detailed public opinion survey data — more detailed than almost all available opinion polls — about their constituents’ attitudes on gun control, infrastructure spending, abortion and many other policy issues. Afterward, we gauged the willingness of representatives to look at the data as well as how the data affected their perceptions of their constituents’ opinions.

    What we found should alarm all Americans. An overwhelming majority of legislators were uninterested in learning about their constituents’ views. Perhaps more worrisome, however, was that when the legislators who did view the data were surveyed afterward, they were no better at understanding what their constituents wanted than legislators who had not looked at the data. For most politicians, voters’ views seemed almost irrelevant.

    No one wants or expects politicians to march in lock step with their voters. Politicians are not supposed to mechanically replace their own views with the views of their constituents. But constituents’ perspectives should carry considerable weight. Our study suggests that for most politicians, voters’ views carry almost no weight at all.

        Hmmmm, well, it looks like the metropolis of Kirk only needs to grow by about 6,526 registered GOPers in the next 60 50 days, to do it’s fair share . . .

        Doable, I spose’ given the stunning successes of Bigly Orange’s tax cuts and tariffs on rural . . . er, I mean, “real” . . . Umeraca???? . . .

        I surely hope that Polis hasn’t unpacked his luggage, yet???

        1. Is there any requirement for geographic dispersal of signatures, or could all 600,000 come from this uninspiring list of locations?

          And (call it 6,000) signatures per location, in 60 days.  How many of these businesses do you think have 100 walk-ins during a day?

          1. Some of those *might* get a hundred walk-ins  a day, but it'd be the same 100 people each and every day.  The folks in Wray on Facebook are practically breathless in their quest to get everyone in town signed on the dotted line.  

        2. Mesa County brought in 500 or so(according to organizers) at an event yesterday. The local Republican Tee Vee headline was "Polis Recall gains momentum"…

          Actually…Republican TV is all you get here if you don't cable or a dish. I get real news online but don't have a big screen and functioning wi-fi, etc. I think everyone should trn off cable and watch the local Grand Junction stations…you might be amazed at the pervasiveness of one-sided political asininity.

              1. I was told that petition gathers had a “very brisk” day outside of multiple locations of The Crossing Burning Supply Store, and also at a couple of the My Little Brown Shirt Childrens Apparel Outlets . . .

                . . . or, maybe it was Hobby Lobby and Chik-Fil-A ???
