  1. WOW … what a novel idea!  A negotiated plan that “helps” Iran to build a prosperous nation, in exchange for not having nuclear weapons that are used to kill people!

Iran rebuffs US as UN powers ready incentives

    By Mark Heinrich

VIENNA (Reuters) – Iran on Thursday rejected a U.S. condition for direct talks on its nuclear program as world powers tried to finalize an incentives package for Tehran to give up potentially weapons-related atomic work.

  2. Blast from the Past – or, This is not your father’s Republican Party.

An article in today’s Wall Street Journal discusses former Nixon antagonist and Republican congressman Pete McCloskey’s bid to take Richard Pombo out in a primary.

    Go Pete, Go.

  3. IF Iran will not negotiate to bring about a peaceful world, then action in concert is necessary.  President Bush is correct in this diplomatic and action direction.

Bush Issues U.N. Threat To Iran
President Says If Iran Continues Uranium Enrichment, World Will Act
    WASHINGTON, June 1, 2006

    http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/06/01/world/main1673692.shtml

(CBS/AP) President Bush said Thursday that the standoff over Iran’s suspected nuclear program is headed for the U.N. Security Council if Tehran continues to refuse to halt uranium enrichment.

“We’ll see whether or not that is the firm position of their government,” President Bush said after a meeting with his Cabinet at the White House. “If they continue their obstinance, if they continue to say to the world ‘We really don’t care what your opinion is,” then the world is going to act in concert.”

  4. I just heard a rumor.  I cannot confirm yet.  The rumor is that Holtzman has failed to make the primary ballot due to failure to have enough valid signatures in CD1.

I can’t stand behind this rumor because I have no firsthand information, but if true, this is huge.

  5. It’s been interesting to read about the oil and gas complications in the 7th CD primary race. If the 7CD Democratic voters would like to see the impacts of favored oil and gas legislation, come on out to Western Colorado and take a drive on 1-70 from Rifle to Grand Junction. The energy exploration impacts are quite a show and it’s coming to a theater near you.

  6. Another day, another GOP fumble:

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist violated campaign laws.  The FEC has found Frist 2000, Inc. guilty of hiding a $1.44m loan by co-signing it with Frist’s 1994 campaign organization.  Frist 2000 was fined $11,000 for the violation.

Apparently, Frist’s 2000 campaign tried to make their money stretch by investing $1m in the stock market, and promptly lost money instead.  This prompted the loan scheme; Frist failed to report the loan on his FEC filings, and hence the fine…

    Bad boy, Dr. Videotape.

  7. Oil and gas drilling certainly impacts the quality of life for those living in the drill areas, but ask the schools, social services, the county, and the fire districts about the additional tax dollars coming in from the drilling. Ask the riggers earning $22 an hour to start, or the businesses benefitting from the new customer base.  Then there is the broader issue of less reliance on foreign oil….

  8. In HD13, Jim Rettew has just announced that he had 1127 certified signatures and will be on the Primary ballot.  He joins Claire Levy, the winner of the district assembly vote.

This is probably the “real” vote for HD13; both candidates have worked hard and I would be happy to have either represent me come next year.

  9. Patriot, I don’t need a video to enhance my understanding of this or any other war.  War is ugly, war is hell, and war is a true last resort.  Vietnam and Iraq are both instances where we went to war (a) on a false pretext, and (b) without fully committing ourselves to winning, and the results so far are similar: a pissed off native population and a stressed-out military.  In fact, it’s tempting to say that a number of Administration hawks (hacks?) who backed this war are really trying to disprove our failures in Vietnam by re-enacting them.  The only people who seem to have learned from Vietnam are the anti-war crowd, who no longer berate our soldiers for situations created by the civilian administration.

  10. PH —

I don’t intend on berating our soldiers, (let me be clear on that) if that is what you meant.  I agree, they are placed in horrific situations with only life and death moments to consider how to defend themselves.  War is hell.  And if our government knew in advance that Iraq had no emerging urgent threat to the United States, then what is the justification in placing our men and women into such harms way?  We have lost so many of our soldiers in this conflict … and so many are seriously injured … 18,000?

The administration continues to suggest it was for Saddam.  However, I can not and do not think that placing our troops into such a horrendous situation was advised by many in the Bush administration … like Powell and others.  It just seems that we had this intent, since Bush’s father did not go the entire distance to Baghdad (1991-2).

We are not being told the truth.  This is what angers me the most.  We (the people) are not considered in the decision process … creating a stain on you, me and every other American.  Now, we must defend our borders … because of our worry of created new terrorists … thus, we are losing our Liberty.

Just how much say do you, me and the so called “democracy” that we are supposed to have … truly have?  I’m affraid it is too little … unless we have some major major changes …
