For Colorado’s presidential aspirants Sen. Michael Bennet and former Gov. John Hickenlooper, tonight’s the night to shine! The same is no less true for all those other folks, but our local boys have everything to gain tonight and not much to lose.
Your personal definition of “make us proud” may vary, but here’s hoping they do.

Hopefully, certain people will not say one word.
Five of these contestants need to leave the stage before the opening bell.
You think they’ve finally found a gag big enough for Sanders? . . .
Sanders is polling in second place, which should tell you that a large portion of people who are paying attention want to hear what he has to say. . Why would they "need a gag" for him?
I'm not stupid – I get that this is your snarky way of saying that you don't want to hear what Sanders has to say. However, you are not representative of Democratic voters.
I can’t recall ever once attempting to portray myself here as representative of any group larger than just me? . . .
YMMV.
(. . . I was just trying to understand what that ancient, decrepit fart might possibly be trying to say. Dave, that is, not Bernie . . .)
(PS — maybe have MADCO splain’ Dunning-Kruger to you sometime? . . .)
DiK.
Silly rabbit, trids are for kicks.
You can't 'splain DK. I mean, anytihng can be 'splained. But there is no point. And if anyone could, I am honored to continue to trying.
Hopefully, Hick won't have a repeat of this problem tonight:
Well, at least we know debate security is tight.
Props to Pols for the graphic – hilarious.
I like Bennet.
And except for Warren, last night was the B team.
I know – they should all be cabinet secretaries. And any of them would be better than DeVos, Pruitt, Wheeler, Ross, Kudlow, Mnuchin, Kushner, Pompeo, Tillerson, etc. (Except maybe Gabbard.)
We need a PM!
We do need a PM.
(sorry – the splitter got away.)
Wow..
.this seems like a debate….
A team. (except the PM)
The energy tonight is totally different because all (but one or two) have strong ideas they are passionate about about how to turn the good ship US America.
..
I cannot do pictures.
(or videos)
but it's real
That’s freakin’ awesome, dude!
The key to posting images is to right click on the image and copy only when you have a menu option to "copy image location". Your problem is that you were trying to copy and paste the raw code for the image, or the address for the page with the image.
Now which one of you was going to 'splain Dunning-Kruger to lil' ol' me?
Bite me
I can't do pictures until tor gives me soemthing that does it..
But that is funny.
Not me . . .
. . . I’m still tryin’ to figure out just WTF Dave’s first post here meant?!
(Wouldn’t the square root of negative shit (i.e, i * sgrrt(shit), or sqrrt(shit)i ) squared be, negative-shit? Is negative-shit a real? . . . I mean, OK, I don’t know — I’m just asking here!! I get the joke, I’m just not certain about the math . . .)
But you're gonna need some time
Yep.
Each of us would have different names for 5 people who need to leave the debate stage and not come back.
Mine, in order, are:
Marianne Williamson, Eric Swalwell, Andrew Yang, John Hickenlooper, and Joe Biden.
Who are your "No mas!" contender names?
Are you kidding me? . . .
. . . I’m not watching any of that shit. I’m sitting in my back yard, burnin’ a spliff, sippin’ a Stella, and enjoying the mid-summer evening . . .
. . . So now, who’s “not representative” of Colorado’s voters?!?!?!
You definitely get the Every Man award.
One word.
Nope. I teach poetry…when I misspell something, it's usually intentional.
is that 5 of the 243 that have filed?
The 20 from both nights?
Or just the A team that's on tonight?
Whatever you prefer. Mine is just the A team tonight.
It was a real debate. Not enough time to do justice to complex issues, and too many people, but still, they
allmostly made us proud.MJ55 — I totally agree with your list. I would add that with the exception of Bennet, all the rest in a debate could wad *rump up in a ball and drop kick his ass into the nearest dumpster.
Mayor Pete would be somewhat polite about it, but Bernie, Kamala and Kirsten would rip *rump's head off and spit down his throat for good measure 😉
To me, Biden was a major disappointment — "Same old Joe"
Out: Williamson, swalwell, yang, bernie and hickenlooper. Hick comes back and runs for the Senate.
Yes, Hick bows out. No, he doesn't run for the senate. He isn't interested in it.
A rare moment of agreement between you and I. If he stays in, he is leveraging for something specific…unless, of course, his poll numbers and fund raising explode after last night…oh, hey, look…I made a joke!!😆
The square root of a negative number gives an imaginary (nonreal number). Squaring it back gives a negative (real) number, thus "got real." I think "got real again" might be the more appropriate joke, but I don't make the hats.
.
Kamala slid the knife in on Uncle Joe tonight.
She was cool about it.
Classy even.
Maddow asked Hick directly about how energy companies can be part of the solution on climate change. His answer: "We don't need socialism!!!"
Wtf, Hick. It's not that hard. Most energy companies are diversifying into renewables and biomass. Some of the biggest ones (Occidental, which just bought Anadarko holdings in Weld County) are pioneering carbon-capture and re-use technology.
I didn't ask anything.
What the hell did they put in Thurston's water bottle?
Superintendent of Schools was way more impressive than Frackenlooper.
Sorry, Michael Bennet has a terrible record.
In his first year as Senator he voted 3 times with the NRA. Unforgiveable from my viewpoint. Hickenlooper is leagues ahead of him.
Leagues ahead of nowhere ain't all that much. Thurston got his blood pressure up on cue, then managed to not overdo it TOO much.
But Gov. Frackenlooper can't help himself…he is a corporate toad. He can no more control himself than Mr. Hyde was controlled by the regrets and inhibitions of Dr. Jekyll.
But he is no Kamala Harris. My Cat and I agree… she crushed it.
Kamela just kept on rocking in the free world. Joe never knew what hit him.
Bernie just slept uncomprehendingly as the party passed him by.
Best summary of Bernie’s performance I’ve yet read, V-ger. Spot on.
Didn't get to watch tonight – don't need to – I've got a good summary here!
So do I, Realist. Our writers' group met tonight so I could only get quick glances here and at CSPAN online to keep up.
A great demonstration of unity by Democrats at the debate. They all choose to destroy America. Economic slavery for all. Same old Democrat party that promoted physical slavery.
The idiot speaks!
What you witnessed last night, was the beginning of the end of your fascist movement.
What are your plans, PP? Your guns all ready? You going to defend a dictators' power grab when he refuses to accept the thrashing he will receive at the polls?
Are you ready to fight for your master?
I am skeptical
But if it comes to it, a photo of the park police moving the guy out would be fine by me.
He didn't watch it. PP is a Dunning-Kruger turing machine.

PP: please enlighten me as I found Rockies baseball to be more interesting than the debates (until closer Wade Davis blew it in the 9th by giving up 4 runs).
How are the Dems planning "economic slavery" for us all?
How? Probably due to Democratic obstinacy in not repealing all taxes for anyone with a net worth greater than $100 million, or an annual income above $1 million.
And the ultimate sin of not paying proper fealty to Koch or Mercer. I'm sure Pitiful Pear tithes to both of their churches.
well, paying tax with a Dem in the White House for one.
Paying tax for anything they don't support or that doesn't benefit them personally..
Sure, it happens now, but Trump and McConnell are running the show, so it's ok cause their families are getting really rich.
Yeah. And the rest of us have to subsidize their sorry asses.
Here's my take on it last night
Winner
Harris owned it. She knifed Biden so smoothly in a way that he couldn't really counteract. She came across as more than qualified to be president. And she also came across as the one that could best take down Trump.
Buttigieg made a good impression. Mostly he showed that he deserved to be on the stage, which is a win. But his big moment was when he took direct responsibility for the police issues in South Bend and said flat out he wasn't able to fix it. I think that honesty will help him a lot.
No Change
Sanders is what was expected. He didn't improve his standing, but neither was it hurt.
Losers
Biden was by far the biggest loser. He went in to this as the clear leader and no problems or criticisms had hurt him. And then Swalwell brought up his age, with a smile but in a way that will have some impact. And the Harris hammered him. It's now clear that he's in the fight of his life for the nomination.
Yang & Williamson made it very clear they should never have been on the stage. Williamson at least had some interesting comments (wacky but interesting). Yang wasn't even there.
The other four – totally forgettable. All except Hick had one moment where they made a good contribution to the debate (Bennet's was another knife into Biden). But they're uninteresting and unremarkable next to Harris, Sanders, & Biden.
Hick: Props to Hick as he was honest about his views and his record. Some of that was phrasing ("Colorado" was the first to legalize marijuana leaving out his opposition), but he was honest.
Bennet: Bennet on the other hand gave a very false impression of himself as someone who fights for the people. What a crock.
Williamson got what she wanted from her campaign, namely elevating her fame as an anti-vax/woomeister celebrity. For her, it's all about fleecing the rubes.
I've never had any problem with what Bennet says. He's also gotten better about expressing himself, and has moved out of his flat, professional "neutral" emotional register that put everyone to sleep.
Bennet was nominated by Obama to help get the ACA passed, and he did. He took every side of the argument for a public health care option, depending on whom he was talking to. And he's still doing that today; last night in the debate, he said he wants to fix Obamacare so we can get to a public option. Have it both ways. I doubt that's possible.
No, my problem isn't what Bennet says, it's his voting record on financial issues, which is mixed at best. We will never get any Wall Street reform votes out of him, ever. He didn't vote or cosponsor Glass Steagall reinstatement, which died in committee. He did vote yes on allowing banking services for cannabis businesses. He's voted the right way on limiting some of Trump's financial excesses, but that's a low bar.
Last night, he didn't fricking vote on the Senate bill to increase military services at the border. He could have just voted No, but he didn't.
That lack of political courage where the rubber meets the road – not when he's in front of a mike – is the kind of thing that drives me batshit about Bennet. He's so freaking careful to not offend. Even when the issue (abusing little children in US custody) is so extremely offensive.
