    1. Sometimes you remind me of Woody Allen… I like his funny stuff better… now he's all serious and stuff
      nyt

Thanks for the recommendation – well worth one of my 10 free.
Can't help but notice how many news stories in recent years about about police and other shootings that result in death with no trial, no judge, no anything but the guns and the moment.

      1. Speaking of the death penalty, lest we forget our #StableGenius playing the part of Executor-In-Chief:

‘Central Park Five’ To Trump: Death Penalty Ad Put A ‘Bounty On Our Head’

Quoting Korey Wise, another member of the Central Park Five, Yusef Salaam told the room: “Korey said it so well. He said, when Donald Trump took out that full-page ad, and put them in all of New York City’s newspapers, calling for our execution, he placed a bounty on our head.”

“They had published our names, our phone numbers, and our addresses in New York City’s newspapers. Imagine the horror of that,” Salaam added.

. . . Well, yeah, but let’s not also forget to acknowledge those hundreds of Colorado Lori Saine wannabes who are living for that big day when they finally get their chance to heroically tap out some nefarious brown-skinned terrorist infiltrators at the airport concourse newsstand, . . . or maybe their local Chik-fil-A??

  1. Anybody paying attention to what's happening at USDA is watching the systemic dismantling of the department under this Administration.  The gutting of scientific research and the economics arm of the agency is well underway.

Ready. Fire. Aim.  (from a George H. W. Bush appointee)

Agriculture Department plans for feeding the nation miss the mark

We all know about “ready, aim, fire” but the moral of my story is also the importance of the initial preparation. The approach Secretary Perdue has taken to ensuring our country is fed and nourished well into the future is to skip the preparation and reverse the order. He “fired” last summer when he made his surprise announcement. His “aim” does not include fixing a problem or making improvements, and the rationale has been vague, unfounded, or disingenuous. The subsequent “ready” phase involved the Agriculture Department scrambling to figure out how to make a site decision, develop site criteria, and consult Congress and stakeholders. The “ready” phase has yet to produce a public cost benefit analysis.

    1. With members of the Trump-cult and Sad!-ministration banned from mentioning climate change, global warming, or any dangers of carbon dioxide, methane or other atmospheric gasses, it is difficult to justify research to change crops.

With a vague sense of foreboding about the agriculture sector, we don't want to pay for economists to study and find out just how bad the farmers and ranchers are doing.

The 2021 recovery is going to be a mammoth task.

      1. But we can depend on the GOP in 2021 to harangue the Democratic administration about the necessity of balancing the budget and paying down the deficit, while increasing defense spending above all other priorities.

Anti-vaxxers defeated: NY bans exemptions as doctors vote to step up fight

Anti-vaccine advocates received a blow in New York Thursday as state lawmakers banned non-medical exemptions based on religious beliefs—and there may be more blows coming.

Also on Thursday, the American Medical Association adopted a new policy to step up its fight against such non-medical exemptions. The AMA, the country’s largest physicians’ group and one of the largest spenders on lobbying, has always strongly support pediatric vaccination and opposed non-medical exemptions. But under the new policy changes, the association will now “actively advocate” for states to eliminate any laws that allow for non-medical exemptions.

    1. I probably wouldn’t have ever said this before 2016, and I’m probably not alone, . . .

. . . but I don’t particularly believe that the lyin’ orange might not be a space alien?!

  3. Maureen Dowd warns of the danger *rump and the GOP represent to our future (to which I say, that's putting it mildly):

It is very disorienting when those who are supposed to be our highest moral exemplars have no morals — not even of the alley-cat variety.

The way Trump publicly wallows in his mendaciousness and amorality is unique in presidential history. His motto might as well be: “I cannot not tell a lie.” His ego is too fragile to play patriarch to the country, so he takes the more ruinous role of provocateur.

There’s no vaccination against the vile machinations of Trump. But there are some signs, in this sickened capital, that antibodies are kicking in. The president and his top officials are getting taken to task by a range of government watchdogs.

Ellen Weintraub, the chair of the Federal Election Commission, tweeted on Thursday, “I would not have thought that I needed to say this,” as a preface to her stern statement: “It is illegal for any person to solicit, accept, or receive anything of value from a foreign national in connection with a U.S. election. This is not a novel concept.”

Trump doesn’t want to lose just when he seems to be getting more comfortable with all the power he wields.

He makes it so easy for everyone to focus on the tweets and the maniacal, moronic reality show that you have to struggle to look away and take the measure of what he’s doing.

And what he’s doing is altering domestic and foreign policy in terrible ways while running up huge deficits.

The Trump White House may be a clown show and a criminal enterprise. But it’s also an actual presidency.

  4. Happy Fathers Day to all the Daddies, Pops, Papas, Step-dads, and anyone else who nurtures, supports, and guides children….Enjoy your day of recognition for all you do!

    1. Glad that you and everyone had a good Pride day. I opted for Daddy day activities to recognize my new son in law / grandbaby daddy. Am I wrong that the Pride parade used to come later in the month, June 28 to coincide with the Stonewall riots?

It did conflict with Juneteenth when it was the 3rd weekend in June, though.

      1. Denver's event has started coordinating with Colorado Springs, Ft Collins, and other cities that do their own so that people can go to more than one, M.J.
