  1. CNN is covering the Virginia Beach shooting this morning. So out of curiosity, I flipped on Fox to see how they were covering the story.

They had a piece with Rush going off on the hypocrisy of Disney boycotting Georgia over its new abortion law.

  2. WOTD from Kos: 2020 will be a "get-out-the-base" election. See Pew Report.

There are several interesting things in this Pew report survey.

    (1) Only 7% are true "independents" who don't lean toward either party. Of that 7%, only 33% bother to vote. Therefore, appealing to independents is a wasteful fight for 2-3% of the electorate. That doesn't even say what would appeal to or increase turnout in that small number of disaffected voters.

    (2) Self-identifying Republicans are a little more likely to be registered to vote then Democrats. But, 20% of Republicans and Lean-Republicans don't vote, 15% of Democrats and Lean-Dems don't vote. Registration drives and appealing to the base targets the 15% slice of non-voters who are already Democrats, and the 25% slice who aren't registered.

    (3) Lean Republicans are much more liberal than the Solid Republicans, which is a measure of how much Trump, Fox News, the Koch-bro's and the Tea Party are solidifying the hard-core Republicans (racists, gun-nuts and christianists), but losing the moderate Republicans. In other words the culture wars are splitting the Republican Party… They still vote Republican, however.

This correlates with all the polls we already know about: Americans generally support the vast left-wing agenda: Obamacare expansion, tolerance of and marriage rights for gays, women's right to an abortion, liberalization of marijuana laws, etc.

    2020 is a get-out-the-base election.

The Republican Party and Trump campaign is obviously using a get-out-the base strategy, boosting the right-wing core and knowing that the soft Republicans will still pull the lever for them.

Since the Democratic agenda is broadly popular, a Republican-lite strategy is not just wrong, it's stupid. There are no persuadable Republicans, and there is a minuscule number of persuadable "independents". The real problem is convincing our base that the politicos will actually deliver.

    1. I wasn't aware that marriage rights for gays, abortion rights, legalization of marijuana laws, was part of a "vast left wing agenda." All sound pretty libertarian to me.

      1. "Socialism is bad….oh, and fracking fluid is a delightful and refreshing beverage"

Mister O&G has a bit of a credibility problem with a lotta Dems. BTW, governor, you still hanging with your bestie, Gov. Kasich?

  3. 1. V- just go ahead and call someone a cracker. You know you want to.

Aren't people telling you to lower you blood pressure?

Itldyaso is right, and any thoughtful person will agree. What if Denver were to require a decal for every motor vehicle that parks in Denver but is not registered in Denver?

    2. It's hard to believe the Denver mayoral race produced two so badly flawed candidates. Glad they don't  get my tax dollars….. Oh wait, they do.

    3. Impeachmrnt investigation is inevitable now. Let's get it going so Pence can run on it.

    4. Meeting with Iran without precondition?  I thought Rs said that was bad. It hasn't worked withRussia China, N. Korea, Saudi  Arabiao anywhere else since 2016.

    1. 1.

      Madcow want a cracker?

      2. Be fair. Denver had FOUR badly flawed mayoral candidates. We are the OPEC of badly flawed mayoral candidates.

      Cue the Bongo drums.

    1. Yeah, let him try to "disband" the military.  Maybe he can appoint Negev as Supreme Commandant of the National Meatball Militia.
