  1. Good morning.

Great choice of quote this lovely spring day.

Particularly appropriate for those who put O.G.PEE (Our Greatest President, Ever…EVER!) in office.

At what point do you people accept the truth, take responsibility for your mistake, and help defend the country you profess to cherish? Can domestic abuse happen on a national scale? Sure it can.

Trump is treating this nation like a man who beats his wife.

  2. Economists flee Agriculture Dept. after feeling punished under Trump

The Economic Research Service — a source of closely read reports on farm income and other topics that can shape federal policy, planting decisions and commodity markets — has run afoul of Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue with its findings on how farmers have been financially harmed by President Donald Trump's trade feuds, the Republican tax code rewrite and other sensitive issues, according to current and former agency employees.

  3. Democrats Won’t Do the Right Thing Unless We Make Them

Democrats have cloaked their reluctance in the high-minded language of consensus—a supposed objection to voting for impeachment on a partisan basis—even though it is plainly political. They fear that if they do the right thing, they will not do as well in the 2020 elections as they will if they do the wrong thing. This fear is highly speculative, and thus irrelevant. We can’t know if an impeachment inquiry would help or hurt Democrats next year, but we do know that the wrong thing causes real harm to people right now. Politicians should pay political penalties for hanging supporters out to dry like this—without the threat of penalty, Democrats will proceed under the impression that abdicating their obligations is costless. We should all demand that they stand and be counted while it’s still an option, and should interpret failure to do so as a profound, collective failure of character…

    1. And, of course, the "right thing" is an auto de fe led by AOC and the hajib lady, followed by a month long freak show in the Senate where Trump wins 57-43 and uses the resulting momentum to win re-election, keep the Senate and retake the house.

But, we sure showed those stinking moderates, right, boys?

      1. V., you are right but the LWNJs are on a roll. I'm hoping the prospect of impeaching Bill Barr will give them a bone to chew on until after the Biden/Klobuchar ticket is elected.

And now Riley Roberts – AOC's boyfriend – is turning into a celeb because Twitter bullied him into getting a haircut. This is keeping up with Kardashians.

          1. Nothing is just like 1972. It is a different world. Your centrist positions have brought us here. Fascism doesn't negotiate.

The Trumplican© party is wholly corrupt. Trying to deal with liars is a fools' errand. Time to wise up…

          2. Didn't you hear, CHB? The solution to right wing nuttery is to bring on left wing nuttery. And the stigma associated with "socialism" for decades is now gone. And rich people are going to pay for everything for everyone else. And we will all live happily ever after….

            1. R&R – replying here because no reply boxes below – I should have said that you never criticize male politicians (besides Bernie, of course). You can criticize me as much as you like, although it would be great if you could come up with something more original than "grumpy and bitter". It does tend to reflect on your lack of a coherent rebutting argument that you need to rely on such slurs.

Nope – when you have scorn for a politician, and you usually do,  it's for AOC, Warren, Ilhan Omar (that's the name of V's "hajib lady") Jill Stein, Maxine Waters….

So if I'm wrong, name a male politician that you disparage as a "LWNJ".

Oh, and thanks for starting the flame war here with your "LWNJ" slurs. Good to know you're following AOC's boyfriend's hair style decisions – keep your eye on the important things.

              1. Hey, "Ride of the Valkyries" was fresh and original, as was "swinging from the chandelier."

but you are so Grumpy and bitter that you went to the mattresses on those too.

And, yes, bernie counts as a left wing nut job.

Though of late he's been making sense about impeachment, noting that if that's what you spend the next six months bellowing about that you won't talk about healthcare, education, income inequality and other things that matter.

Is that why you dumped him?

PS. I really like your "Kneel before Zod!" T-shirt.

                1. I believe I once said "Such a Nasty Woman" in reference to M.J. It was meant as a joke based on Donald Trump's reference to Hillary as such a nasty woman. But she has no sense of humor so she didn't take it that way.

I don't recall calling her "grumpy" although it is quite possible I did.

Bernie is kind of the High Priest of the LWNJ. I really didn't know until recently just how wacky he is. I was reading that article about his early days. When he couldn't afford to keep the electricity on in his house so he ran an extension cord over to the neighbor's house! Or his honeymoon in 1988 back in the USSR!

Now that he is millionaire – which I actually admire him for accomplishing – his financial woes should be a thing of the past.

              2. Wrong again…..

I have criticized Bernie, President Obama, Julian Castro (and his promise of reparations), Mark Udall, Ed Perlmutter, and Michael Bennet (although not nearly as much as some criticize him). There are a few others I would add. Representative Ro Khanna is one. Representative Steven Cohen (the guy with Kentucky Fried Chicken at the Judiciary Committee) is another.

Would you like a list of women politicians I respect and admire? As you might imagine, pride of place goes to the woman whom I'm proud to say I supported enthusiastically in '08 and in '16 for president. She was eminently qualified for that office but not leftie enough for some.

It is ironic too, because I'm old enough to remember 1992 when she castigated as being a Marxist, a feminazi, and a witch.  And as for free stuff, remember Hillary-Care? A great public health care system. But she learned what was practical and what was not, so she and her husband came back with the CHIP program and HIPPA.

Another woman I greatly admire is Nancy Pelosi. And if she says that impeaching Trump is not worth it, I give her opinion more credit than I would give to the Bartender from the Bronx.

AOC's greatest accomplishment was going from bartender to knocking off a stupid incumbent who couldn't be bothered to ask people to vote fo him. I give her credit for seeing and opportunity and running with it.

Jill Stein, since you brought her up, is an idiot. Useful idiot, as Lenin and Voyageur would say. But nevertheless, an idiot.

And when Amy Coney Barrett takes Ginsburg's Supreme Court, you too will appreciate the damage done by Stein and Bernie. (But I don't expect someone as dogmatic and close-minded as you to ever acknowledge that.)

In fact, the statistics are that Bernie Bros in MI, WI and PA who voted for Trump did more damage to HRC than Stein did. In that sense, maybe I have been unfair to – or flattering – Jill Stein by attributing Clinton's loss to her.

As for my disparaging Warren, she's left but she's not looney left. And if she is the nominee, I will probably for her. But she is stupid. Trump set her up with the Native-American ancestry issue, she thought she could beat him at his own game so did the DNA test and looked like a fool.

I'm sorry, but I've seen too many of effete liberals come out of Massachusetts in my lifetime only to have the rest of us have to live the consequences of their inability to connect with normal people (Ted Kennedy in '80, Dukakis in '88, John Kerry in '04). So we are going to do the same thing over again but expect a different result?

                Biden/Klobuchar '20

      2. It's "hijab", V. If you're going to disparage someone's religious observances, at least spell it correctly.

Also, your predictions about dire consequences for impeachment are not  universally accepted,  and the consensus is shifting . Experienced prosecutors are recommending impeachment investigations begin immediately,  because it is the Constitutional remedy given for high crimes and misdemeanors by a sitting President. It may or not be politic, but it is the duty of Congress to follow the Constitution.

A bipartisan group of hundreds of former Federal prosecutors signed an open  letter

stating that Trump’s conduct would warrant criminal obstruction of justice charges if he lived anywhere except in the White House.

        1. Yeah, when I look for guidance for the Democratic Party, I look to the old guys who can't stand Muslims and Women in positions of authority.

          1. Cur….Go start your own flame thread with V and/or R&R. You are not my ally. And you seem to have your own issues with uppity women who have the temerity to contradict you.

No doubt, V will call me drunk, crazy, stupid, lying and pretend to read my state of mind when posting. He'll post stuff he thinks is hilarious about Valkyries and chandeliers. R&R will be content with calling me "grumpy and bitter", like that's how you settle an argument with a woman.

I don't need your piling on and making this into a flamefest to satisfy your wounded ego.

All of y'all good ol’ boyz need to learn how to have a constructive argument and allow divergent points of view, without immediately going to ad hominem attack.

Now back to the topic at hand: impeachment and its advisability, or not. Does anyone have something intelligent to say?

            1. If, after trials and committee hearings on evident crimes are over, and eight months passes without beginning an impeachment committee, I will be disappointed.

In the meantime, I think I will probably avoid trying to consider myself a better tactician or strategist than Nancy Pelosi and the rest of the Democratic Committee chairs.

              Remember the Watergate timeline:

              • June 17, 1972 — Five men are arrested while trying to bug the Democratic National Committee’s headquarters at the Watergate,
              • Jan. 8, 1973 The trial for the Watergate break-in begins.
              • May 17, 1973 Senator Sam Ervin opens the Senate Select Committee on Presidential Campaign Activities into the Watergate incident.
              • May 18, 1973 Attorney General Elliot Richardson appoints Archibald Cox as special prosecutor
              • July 16, 1973 [Butterfield] testifies before the Senate Committee in a live broadcast, revealing that since 1971 Nixon had recorded all conversations and telephone calls in his offices.
              • August 15, 1973 The same day the Senate Select Committee wraps up its hearings, Nixon delivers a second primetime address to the nation on Watergate, saying “It has become clear that both the hearings themselves and some of the commentaries on them have become increasingly absorbed in an effort to implicate the President personally in the illegal activities that took place.”
              • Oct. 20, 1973 The day that becomes known as the “Saturday Night Massacre.”
              • November 17, 1973 During a televised press conference in Florida, Nixon famously declares, “I’m not a crook,”
              • March 1, 1974 Indictments are handed down for the “Watergate Seven,” including John Mitchell, H.R. Haldeman and John Ehrlichman. The grand jury names Nixon as an “unindicted co-conspirator.”
              • May 9, 1974 The House Judiciary Committee starts impeachment proceedings against Nixon.
              • July 27-30, 1974 The House Judiciary Committee passes three articles of impeachment against Nixon
              • August 8, 1974 President Nixon resigns.
              1. Without pressure from the left, nothing will happen. Nancy Pelosi will pull the trigger when she thinks the time is right. Until then, the public outcry for impeachment needs to continue unabated.

Elected officials use the passion of the people as a negotiating tool. Don't tell the "lefties" to shut up…unless you think T***p doesn't deserve to be impeached.

              2. Thanks, JiD. I was a little fuzzy on the timeline. It seemed like it went on forever. Then again, I was only eight when Nixon flew away in that helicopter.

                  1. it couldn't possibly have been Air Force One … the Air Force not coming into existence until post WWII.

But if the President was flying in a balloon, are you sure it was hot air and not gas?  Odd factoid …

The first manned flight of a balloon in America occurred January 9, 1793.  It was a hydrogen gas balloon piloted by the same Frenchman who was the first to cross the English Channel, Jean-Pierre Blanchard.  This flight ascended from a prison yard in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  He ascended to about 5,800 feet and he made a successful landing in Gloucester County, in New Jersey.  George Washington observed the launch.

                    1. Interesting background.  But in World War II they called it the Army Air Force.  and before that, the Army Air Corps. We used observation balloons in the Civil War.

            2. Great job of going ad M&Ms and pointing out that all "boyz" are too stupid to argue with a superior woman like yourself, MJ!

Wow!  Cue Ride of the Valkyries.  Even by your standards, that is a classic!

Fortunately, Nancy Pelosi is much smarter than you are … and has actually read that Constitution thingee as well as "The Prince."

the book , not "Fresh Prince of Bel Air."

               that was a TV show.

And by the way, there is no "z" in "boys".

If you are going to disparage half the human race, you could at least spell it properly.

              Tee hee.

            3. MJ, I'm pretty much okay with not being part of an online clique. I get my validation from work and family, not endlessly prattling on about myself and cooing at my own prose.  I've scoured the site (ask Bob about that) and yet, I'm unable to find the official declaration saying you speak for all women, and that pointing out your leaps in logic and inaccuracies makes someone a misogynist. I could offer some personal evidence to refute that, but offering up anything personal on this blog is a huge mistake.  There are some creepy folks wandering around.  I'm much more comfortable outside the periphery of the self-proclaimed Colorado Pols Cool Kids.

              1. You and V deserve each other. You have the exact same response to dissent, contradicting evidence or opinion, and it is not to come up with a clear, convincing, evidence-based argument of your own.

Instead, you get increasingly nasty and insulting. You are, in fact psychic twins who deserve each other, whatever your political differences. You are in a Pols club, the Good Ol Boyz Club – because…..

You all  handle dissent or argument the same way every MAGA moran out there deals with someone with a different opinion: You  intentionally misrepresent, misunderstand, misinform, insult and deride,   throw up straw men to destroy, use every possible logical fallacy . I see no difference between you at all.

As an example, check out the last two posts below – so sweet to see Va and Curmy bonding over their mutual hatred of me, and their inability to form a coherent factual response to any argument, instead relying on insults and slurs. They really are peas in a pod – the Good Ol Boyz, as I said.

                  1. You, V, and R&R (who started all of this with his assertion that anyone who argues for impeachment is a "LWNJ")  are equal-opportunity insulters, to be sure.

Your insults to me were gender -based – I'm not going to try to find it, but something about a "queen needing to be worshipped". V's are gender-based – "Valkyries", "shrill". The two people he mentioned when deriding the impeachment faction were women – AOC and the "hajib/ (hijab) lady".

In fact, half of the people – congressmen, journalists, prosecuting attorneys – calling for initiating impeachment proceedings are male. Yet, somehow, their names don't come up when people feel a need to belittle the idea of impeachment.

R&R – well, I've never seen him belittle a man on here, ever…he reserves his scorn for the ladies.

We are convenient targets, after all.

                    1. Oh, you mean this one?

"What name did I call you, and what attack did I make?

I'm not appealing the sentence, mind you.  I think it's probably a pretty laid-back group you've put me in.

                      Although,

"Mere Mortals Who've Failed to Genuflect Before MJ55's Self-Anointed Status as Goddess of All Things Progressive"  is a bit wordy for a t-shirt.  "

Fair enough. I usually refer to Goddesses in general, to push back against the confines of patriarchal religion. How about a gender-neutral version?

"Mere Mortals Who've Failed to Genuflect Before MJ55's Self-Anointed Status as Goddess Supreme Deity of All Things Progressive"

                      Better?

                    2. Always great to hear from the queen bee who stabbed Hillary and Cary Kennedy in the back because, you know, it's so important  for women to stick together.  Cue "Ride of the Valkyries" and pass the royal jelly.

                    3. You are so full of crap, MJ.

I have criticized Itlduso, Zappy (frequently), Duke, Dust Puppy, Powerful Pear, Andrew Carnegie and the foul-mouthed Poderamus.

I understand that playing the victim and the culture of victimization is a big part of hard left ideology, but even you are overplaying that one.

How many women besides you have I criticized on this site?

          2. This will come as a great shock to you, GED-man, but the De mocrat with the most authority in Washington is Nancy Pelosi.  Yes, I know, you can't stand her.  But nobody cares about your opinion anyway.

            1. As I said, Bob..I'm okay with not being part of the half-dozen or so in the CoPols clique.  I post my opinions, and I respond when fools want to engage me.  I just don't have the flair for self-aggrandizement it takes to be a member of a very small, rather comical club.

A self-proclaimed wise man once said,  "Hiding behind the veil of secrecy is hypocrisy to the nth degree," he says, "and until my accuser comes forward, I'll treat it with the contempt it deserves."

              1. Even for you, Curmy, it's dumb to attack people who hide behind pseudonyms while hiding behind your pseudonym.

                Very dumb.

                Very, very dumb.

                Did I mention that's dumb?

        2. MJ, where in the Constitution does it say it means only what left-wing do-whack-a-doos think it means?  Mine says it takes two-thirds of the Senate to convict.  You don't even have half.  You'd lose three or four dems and every Republican.  And probably re-elect Trump.

    1. As usual, I popped in to see if anyone beat me to the post. You're quick, R&R. And, here we go again, doing nothing to stop this. It's practically become a rite of spring.

  4. Reuters

    Buzzfeed

In view of the above-linked articles, it would be irresponsible not to speculate about what went on among Falwell, his wife and that youthful pool boy vis-a-vis those photos Trump's lawyer (allegedly) fixed in exchange for Falwell's endorsement.

    – Was is a garden variety threesome involving Jerry, wifey and the pool boy?

    – Was is just Jerry banging the pool boy, in true traditional family values Republican style?

    – Was is cuckold fetishism, with Jerry watching while wifey and the pool boy banged and verbally humiliated Jerry?

    – Something else?

One also wonders whether this here story might have explanatory value regarding Dame Lindsey Graham's rather abrupt about-face on Trump.
