Who's Running The Polis Recall? Nazis. Yes, Really.

Over the past couple of weeks there have been a number of stories about groups organizing to recall Gov. Jared Polis from office. Because Gov. Polis is constitutionally protected from a recall effort for the for six months he is in office, it has not been possible for these groups to gather any signatures, and the massive requirement of over 600,000 valid signatures makes the attempt as a practical matter highly unlikely. Regardless, the agitation is contributing to the current zeitgeist of GOP rebelliousness against Democrats, who won in an historic landslide election in 2018 leaving Republicans with no way of stopping Democrats from passing desired legislation.

But for all the legitimizing press the Polis recall proponents have received this month, there’s been something very important missing–information about the people behind the effort. And as the Greeley Tribune’s Tyler Silvy reports today in one of the biggest stories ever from that media outlet, this data point is extremely significant.

Because some of them are Nazis.

Recall Governor Jared Polis page, a closed Facebook group, is nearly 30,000 members strong after adopting that name.

Shane Donnelly is one of the admins for the page, and appears to be in charge, as he has called the page “my group,” and commented that he “created this movement.”

He also once posted that Hitler was good to the German people, and “its time america has someone american.” Donnelly hasn’t responded to a Facebook message seeking comment. [Pols emphasis]

There’s no way we can effectively summarize all the the damning detail in this story, so make sure you click through and read it all. The short version is that an online right-wing activist named Shane Donnelly is the principal organizer of the “official” Polis recall closed Facebook group and the issue committee of the same name. The Tribune reports on a recent split between that organization and another group calling itself the Resist Polis PAC. Regardless it’s Donnelly’s group that has almost 30,000 members, the only hard indicator of support that exists for any of this.

And Shane Donnelly is not the only Nazi in the group.

Then there’s the OFFICIAL RECALL ELECTION COMMITTEE, which would discuss potential candidates for election to take Polis’ place should a recall be successful.

Judy Spady is officially involved with both committees, and she’s also an admin for the Facebook group, earning that title following Good’s exodus.

Spady’s public Facebook page is rife with anti-semitic posts, including a post from September 2017 saying “Israel did 9/11,” and another that credits the western world with creating radical Islam to “use fear to push the Jew World Order.” [Pols emphasis]

Now, let’s compare this revelation to the outrage over Minnesota Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar’s comments about “allegiance to a foreign power” in reference to support for Israel, the advisability of which remains a subject of hot contention among Democrats after a push to condemn Omar via a resolution went sideways. Republicans of course had no such division in their ranks, if anything with a few like Rep. Ken Buck of Colorado voting against the watered-down Omar resolution because it didn’t single out anti-Semitism above all other forms of oppression:

In the history of the world, no group has suffered more insidious hatred than the Jews. Anti-Semitism can’t be compared with any other hate speech without marginalizing the history of Jewish oppression. I will not vote to overlook the anti-Semitism which has been covered up by the Democratic leadership…

Well folks, we’re sorry to inform Rep. Buck that the campaign to recall Jared Polis–which he’d better handle with care as a candidate for Colorado Republican Party chairman–is run by people who aren’t at all ambiguous in their hatred of Jewish people.

There’s a lot more to say about this, and it’s time for that conversation to happen. It’s not just that these vile fringe figures were given credibility in multiple news reports that they never deserved. The Recall Polis campaign is trading on the same ginned-up outrage as the recall campaign against House members personally fronted by GOP House Minority Leader Patrick Neville. It’s the same message, motivating the same segment of the electorate. If anything, Neville would love to have the nearly 30,000 members of Donnelly’s Recall Polis group give Neville’s relatively obscure Recall Colorado page a like.

This is who they are. If it’s not who you are, and you’re part of their movement, you know what to do.

    Buck, champion of the 4th Amendment (find it yourself- he got a warrant to searcha tax preparer's office and take documents based on probable cause for just over 200 people with fake social security numbers – looking at you Greely employers and then took over 10,000 documents and files), will have no trouble showing empathy for any opposition to D's and anyone not R, while also maintaining deniability for his people.

  5. The right fringe bigots have way too many groups competing for the same goal. There is Recall Colorado Governor Jared Polis. (the closed group). There's its out-of-town buddy, Friends of Recall (etc) There's Recall Colorado (the RMGO/ Neville / Julie Williams group.  There's ResistPolisPAC, (Tom Good’s group)which seems to be trying to position itself as a "moderate" group. Oh, and there’s the “Official” Recall Jared Polis Page, recallpolis.com, affiliated with the Resistpolis PAC, and open for business and taking “pledges” for later donations, doesn’t seem to be seriously taking on the governor, but has a laundry list of 18 Democratic Reps and Senators to “recall”.

    On the electoral vote vs popular vote issue, coloradansvote.org is taking donations now. They seem to be affiliated loosely with the recall polis groups. These guys are getting all their federal and local issues monies entangled, and I hope that AG Weiser takes note.

    Now there's this Nazi taint, and it will be interesting to see how they try to wiggle out of that. My bet: "Fake News".

    Nazi sympathizer Shane Donnelly is also a moderator of Recall Polis – Morgan County, my local affiliate FB group, which claims 995 members.

    It's going to end up in a race to see which groups get the big dark money donations, as it was in the recalls of 2013.  Several of the groups already have go-fund-me pages. I see this as about fundraising first, ginning up outrage for 2020 next, with slim chances of recalling three legislators, thus changing the balance of power in the Leg, and no chance at all for recalling Jared Polis.

    The "Recall Colorado Governor Jared Polis" group has been around for four years…..yeah, way before Polis even thought about running for governor. It was initiated to recall Governor Hickenlooper, for basically the same reasons they're mad at Polis; signing laws they don't like.

    The other recall group, Recall Colorado, the one run by the N(evil)le Fam, is basically just going after legislators they see as vulnerable. (Rochelle Galindo , (Greeley)   Meg Froelich, (Englewood), Jeff Bridges (Greenwood Village) etc.  Froelich and Bridges may be vulnerable because they got their seats by appointment after Senator Daniel Kagan resigned for using the wrong bathroom.

    Galindo won her seat by a wide margin, but is out as a lesbian, and is pro-health and safety, which is seen as anti-oil-and-gas industry in  "Frack City", Greeley.
    All three legislators targeted for recall are progressives, and support the red flag bill and 19-181, as well as Colorado's popular vote initiative signed by Polis.  

    If you're in Froelich's, Galindo's, or Bridges' districts, you might consider letting your support for your Democratic legislator be known, and sending them a little cash if the recall petitions get off the ground.

      The big question in my mind is:  if they actually try doing this to Polis, who do they run as their recall candidate? Walker Stapleton, who should be tanned, rested and ready? Taller Coffman? Bob Beauprez? Or some real batshit crazy? 

      1. Let's say they do get enough signatures to recall (I have no faith in checks and balances these days), does it go to an election? What happens if these grifting mouth-breathing fucktards get their way?

        1. I don't think there's any way they recall Polis. They can't start collecting until July,  if their petition passes muster, and they'd have to get well over 631,000 valid signatures before November if they wanted to have a special election this year. 

          Plus they're fighting amongst themselves over money and turf, and don't have a petition filed with the Secretary of State yet – all they've done is register two committees and a competing PAC.

            – it's like the KKKeystone Kops.

          As I wrote, though, some of your state reps and Senators,  (Galindo, Froelich, and Bridges) could be in real danger, if any of the KKKrew get their acts together and actually collect signatures. They'll need a much lower amount of signatures to recall in these districts, and odds are that there will be plenty of oil and gas and gun money to pump out pro-recall propaganda. 

          On a positive note, how refreshing it is to see Jena Griswold's face on the banner of the Secretary of State site.  Pretty sure she won't allow dirty tricks like the last folks to run a recall pulled.

        2. Then presumably there is a recall election overseen by Jenna Griswold. The recallers would need to run a candidate, which might get interesting. Do they go with viable or crazy…

            If the RMGO crowd or the Donnelly/ Spady "Official Recall Polis Committee" crowd wins, crazy for sure.

            If Good and the ResistPolisPAC win, they'd probably go with a Victor Mitchell "moderate" type.

        Do you know the Registered Agent is only "the individual or business responsible for accepting service of process for an entity," so if there is no process, there is no responsibility to contact the agent?

      Thanks for your military service, Christine. You have showed yourself to be courageous and selfless. However, your service and status as a veteran does not make you automatically right about political issues. You are no more a patriot than I am, or the others on here, many of whom are also veterans.

      You obviously won't care and won't listen to any political arguments about any of the issues you're so mad at Polis for supporting. So I'll just cut to the chase:

      You have no grounds to accuse anyone of libel. Shane Donnelly's Facebook posts, hinting that "Jews caused 9/11" were in fact posted by him, re-posted from Judy Spady. You no longer have Judy Spady as an administrator, because her anti-semitism made her a liability.* Your own comments about how Hitler was "loved" by his people are deeply offensive. As a daughter of a refugee from the Anschluss, I can tell you that Hitler was much more feared and hated than "loved".

      So the anti-Semitism in your group is there. People took screenshots of the posts at the time. It's not to say that every single one of the people in your group shares those views – they don't. But that it's such a unifying quality in your leadership is disturbing.

      The truth is the best defense against an accusation of libel.

        1. 4 Anschluss was indeed, the annexation of Austria by Germany. I am usually precise in language, as you will find if you keep posting on here. Mom was Austrian, and ethnically the family were Jewish on both sides. She saw Hitler speak. She said that he was mesmerizing, that people wanted to believe what he said, they wanted to be part of the emotional wave he built, but that he spoke complete nonsense. It was all distortions and lies.

          Not just nonsense…bigoted, hateful rhetoric that targeted my mother's family as Jews. They had to leave Austria – liquidate everything and go. They were lucky to be able to make it. Some refugees were turned around on the boats in sight of Lady Liberty and sent back. Kind of like what we're doing with Central American and Muslim refugees today. He'll be a good governor, and you all will learn to live with the red flag bill just as you did with the other "DOOM" of the magazine limit and the background check. Nobody's coming for your guns as long as you're not threatening anyone or hurting people or property with them.

          181 will regulate oil and gas operations, and prioritize public health over profit, but those 30,000 working in the industry will still have their jobs.

          People like myself, who suffered in abusive relationships, will have the security of knowing that at least there is a process to make sure the abuser won't be armed. Colorado's 9 delegate votes will go to the winner of the popular vote, as they have done for the last 6 years. And you all survived that, without even a boo-boo to kiss.

          You all will have to calm down from your drama , turn off Fox, and listen to people who might not agree with you.  Seriously, you should hone your "talking to regular people skills" because honey, right now, you are not showing any ability to go out and get anybody to sign anything.

            Thank you for clarifying your statement of your mother being a refugee from Anschluss. The persecution of Jews in Europe prior to, and during World War II was a HORRENDOUS practice, for which no excuse can be made!
            I am in complete sympathy with you, and your family for the duress they had to endure, and the uncertain future they faced as they fled Anschluss. I thought you meant a refugee from Auschwitz, as in 'liberated' from the concentration camp, and allowed to leave. Again, no disrespect was ever intended, just clarification.

            Lastly, I'd like to correct your statistic on the oil & gas industry in Colorado, in regards to how many jobs are in that industry.
            Derek Draplin of Colorado WatchDog.org, published an article yesterday, March 26, 2019, regarding a report conducted by "the Global Energy Management Program at the University of Colorado Denver and paid for by the Colorado Oil & Gas Association (COGA), found the industry accounts for 89,000 direct and indirect jobs and makes up $13.5 billion of Colorado’s gross domestic product (GDP).", which states: "The study estimated that if the legislation were to shut down 50 percent of new oil and gas production, by 2030 the state would see 120,000 fewer jobs and $8 billion in lost tax revenue. It would also mean $158 billion in lost GDP over a decade, the study said.
            If the legislation were to shut down 100 percent of new oil and gas production, it would mean 185,000 fewer jobs and $13.5 billion in lost tax revenue, in addition to $257 billion in lost revenue, according to the study.            ", and: "The report said $234.7 million in income taxes and more than $457 million in property taxes contribute to $993.3 million in tax revenue from the industry, which funds local and state government programs in education and infrastructure, among others.

            Notice that the report specifies 'new' oil & gas production, but I'm sure that any restrictions will, in fact, affect existing production, and jobs.
            So your statement: "181 will regulate oil and gas operations, and prioritize public health over profit, but those 30,000 working in the industry will still have their jobs." is incorrect, ma'am.
            You may also want to check The Washington Times for their article entitled: 'With Hickenlooper out, Colorado's empowered environmentalists target oil and gas industry', written by Valerie Richardson, published March 17, 2019, who writes: “That bill, SB 181, make no mistake, it has nothing to do with public health and safety and everything to do with banning energy development in the state of Colorado,” said Amy Oliver Cooke, executive vice president of the free-market Independence Institute, and reports: "The nation’s fifth-largest producer of natural gas, Colorado fossil-fuel development supported nearly 233,000 jobs in 2015, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration."
            Furthermore, the same article reports: "Republicans, rural Coloradans and industry officials have warned of brutal economic consequences. A REMI Partnership study released Tuesday by industry groups estimated that a 50 percent reduction in production by 2030 would wipe out 120,000 jobs and $8 billion in state and local tax revenue.
            “Let’s not forget that there will be pain if this bill passes,” state Sen. Rob Woodward, a Republican, said before Wednesday’s vote. “People will lose their jobs, people will lose their homes, people will lose their businesses. And as we all know when this happens, marriages will crumble, suicides will increase.               On the oil and gas jobs issue, you are quoting inflated  numbers from studies specially commissioned by COGA, propaganda arm of Colorado's oil and gas industry. Voyageur agrees with you and all of the industry flacks.

              Here are the actual oil and gas numbers from the Colorado Department of Labor, which investigates in depth, calling employers, looking at taxes and official documents.

              Last year, in 2018, there were about 26,000 jobs in Colorado directly related to oil and gas exraction.  See for yourself. Go to Colorado Dept. of Labor and Employment, Labor Market Analysis, Industry profile,, and look up “extraction”. Oil and gas extraction is part of the Mining, Logging, and Construction sector, but most of that is building construction.

              Currently, there are

              For extraction workers in 2018,  there were 24, 853 annual job openings.

              A search with keyword "oil" turns up other occupations, such as rotary drillhead operator. That one only had 179 annual openings.

              Support workers for mining operations is only .6% of all jobs in Colorado now, not the huge sector COGCC likes to brag on. Oil and gas extraction as a whole comprises about 3% of all jobs in Colorado.

              Regardless of whether you beleive the Colorado Department of Labor, or the industry mouthpiece about the number of jobs, Senate Bill 181 won’t put anyone out of work. It will make extraction of oil more expensive and less profitable, since it will mandate complying with health and safety requirements, installing monitoring equipment, and capping off abandoned wells and pipes. That’s what prioritizing public health over profit looks like. Unless you like blowing up people’s houses and oilfield workers as part of the “cost of doing business”.

          2. Just for context on what I’m about to say, I’m a veteran, too.

            I grew up in a time when service was not unexpected, probably even taken for granted.  It’s just what you, or many people, did.  Not unadmirable, but really, no big deal.

            That’s kind of the attitude that had persisted from the beginning of this country.  You were a citizen, you served, you went back to civilian life, and you continued to be a citizen.  Service was not unlike a phase, adolescence or puberty, that everyone or almost everyone went through.

            Admittedly, it probably did underrecognize the important service and commitments that many individuals had made.  We still had our heros, those exceptionally brave or accomplished folks, those who had made terrible sacrifice.  But, again, for the most part it was more the norm, something that people you saw countless times everyday also had done.  In a sense, they, we, I, were nothing all that special.

            Then came the day of all volunteer service.  Many reasons for this, and many outcomes also.  Like anything that has multiple outcomes some could probably be labeled “good”, some “bad”.  I don’t particularly like those labels — they color and distort the reality of the world, and our perception of things and people.

            With the all-volunteer service, came a wave of outsourcing of previous military service functions.  The mundane logistics of supply and support that used to be performed by countless soldiers previously, were now then performed by private industry.  (The military logistics became a business, and the Cheneys and Haliburtons made huge money for the people at the top of the corporate chain, while the daily workers got minimum wage, no benefits, no retirement.  Military support became WalMart.)

            Again, this needed to happen.  Volunteer warriors were too far and few between, and too valuable to be used as clerks, typists, and food servers.  These warriors probably are “more special” than the rountine military servers of my day and prior.  A much higher percentage saw and participated in true combat and battle than ever before.

            But, too, society . . . circa 1980 and 1990 . . . every child is special, everybody in a contest deserves an award, everybody who participates gets a trophy, medal, ribbon, gold star, high five, personal recognition, self esteem . . . 

            I fear that that’s where we are today, where every requisite, knee-jerk, and reflexive “thankyou for your service” is just that — the participation reward that a generation that grew up on participation rewards, and has rooms stuffed full of these rewards over their years, and has taken hundreds of thousands of pictures recording every participation and dessert eaten in their life, has brought us to, comes to expect, is “entitled” to demand. Where, “I served, and I’m more special and right” has overtaken and undertrodden the “we’re citizens (btw, we served, all citizens do in a way)” outlook of generations of countless American citizens.

            People meet an outcome — the all-volunteer service meets the “where’s my participation trophy” and the “I’m entitled to emote” generation?

            What I *was* promised, was that in return for my service, a grateful nation would ensure that I would be cared for (I believe that meant the aspect of  'medical' care.), and that is why I worked with the Concerned Veterans For America (CV4A) – Denver chapter to ensure that ALL veterans, not just myself, get access to adequate, and timely healthcare, and treatments. The other purpose of CV4A is to call for accountability within the VA to hold VA officials accountable for the failures of the VA to ensure the care for veterans. 
            Sadly, I was at the Denver Veterans Affairs Medical Center, or 'Eastern Colorado Healthcare System', in June 2015 when a veteran committed suicide by firearm in his personal vehicle, in the parking garage, as I was driving through the levels of the garage to park for an appointment. 
            I fully-expect readers to clamor to their 'this is why we need gun control!' battle stations. In truth, this is why we need to ensure that the VA upholds the principle to which it states it is committed to. When veterans are marginalized, and denied any aspect of medical care, or 'adequate' medical care, to which they are entitled by government statute, it's not to hard to understand why they may choose to commit suicide. That is the tragedy of veteran suicides, and it's a tragedy that's preventable, if the VA does more than lip-service to veterans.

            I stated my welcome to MJ55 who thanked me for my service, sacrifice, and selflessness. I believe well-mannered individuals should respond to other individuals who take a moment to say 'thank you'. Therefore, my statement. How can I ask for respect and civil discourse if I do not practice it myself?

            Lajes Field, Azores… hmmm.. I wouldn't say it's a 'hell-hole'. It's certainly not as technologically-developed as other bases go, but better than a jungle or desert, for sure. The surrounding community of stone-washed, concrete, and tile-roofed buildings, and the lush, green pastures are a beautiful backdrop, for sure. I arrived at Lajes Field in the wee hours of a January morning in 1991 in the middle of a strong thunderstorm: the pilot landed the plane as lightning flashed, as the North Atlantic Ocean frothed with fury, on a runway 180' feet above the waves. ('It was a dark, and stormy night…') 🙂
            The commissary received shipments of food, beverages, condiments, etc., much as any commissary does. Being on an island, you're kinda at the whim of resources being adequately stocked, and furnished. It's was no picnic, as the expression goes, to be sure. Basic supplies took months to get. Thank God for the Portuguese, is all I can say!

            The lead/center aircraft, an F-16 is from 'SJ' (see their tails), meaning Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, North Carolina; the lighter-gray F-16 above but to the lead's right wing, is from 'BT', Bitburg Air Force Base, Germany. Wish I could see the tails of the others. This tidbit of information is probably only interesting to me, as I love aircraft & aviation.
            In any case, I was one of those 600 members deployed there at the operation's peak. I was also one of the first in. Not a huge deployment, by any definition. Kandahar Air Base, Afghanistan, by comparison has approximately 20,000 military and civilians.

                Allow me to state I *am* considered a 'combat veteran' because I served during an expedition or campaign, but because I did not deploy to the 'front lines' and did not engage in actual combat (as you know combat is something the majority of female veterans, and current female servicemembers have been, and are shielded from) I don't call myself a "combat veteran".
                And to call me 'Rear-echelon' MF (yes, I know what 'MF' refers to) exhibits your ignorance, and offensively-crude rudimentary possession of the English language far better than I could have demonstrated, as I was one of the first Airfield Management Specialists to deploy in support of OPERATION DESERT SHIELD/STORM, and for your information, my AFSC (MOS) is considered "essential personnel", and we ARE the ones who provide Air Traffic Control, Ground Control, Radar Approach Control, and Airfield Management, without which, there wouldn't be any airfield operations, and mission-support, thereof.
                As a Journeyman Airfield Management Specialist, I could've been (and still could be!) deployed ANYWHERE; the U.S. Air Force, in its wisdom, chose Lajes Field, Azores. I was *willing* to go to Iraq or Saudi Arabia, and stated that on my volunteer for deployment, submitted to my (then) local Personnel Readiness Center, at the Consolidated Base Personnel Office (CBPO) where I was stationed in August 1990.

                I know a gunshot when I hear one, and I, like other veterans arriving for appointments, had to wait in our vehicles until VA Police cleared the parking garage of threats, from just after noon, for several hours.
                I found several other articles about veterans committing suicide at VA hospitals, from St. Louis, to Pittsburgh, to New York, just as you did, I'm sure; these are not an exhaustive list of veteran suicides at VA hospitals, as many more than a handful of veterans have committed suicide on VA property & at VA hospitals.
                The VA has refused to publicize all of the veteran suicides, and still refuses to disclose exactly how many veterans commit suicide on VA property. See this article entitled: '"Parking Lot" Suicides Roil VA', in Military.com, written by Richard Sisk. 
                Reading the article, I learned of the Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and the Durham, North Carolina incidents.
                Just because it doesn't appear in a search, or hit the news, doesn't mean it didn't happen.

    3. Bless your little heart. Your rhetoric reads as though the Dems came to power in some sort of power grab, skirting the election and rule of law. Reality is, where were you all last November when we had an election so your voices and votes were heard? Oh yeah, you lost. The majority of Colorado doesn't think the way you all do and want to move on, looking toward the future and how our state government can work for all the people of Colorado, not just the red/right ones.

      It's also very telling how quickly you resort to using "gun grab" when referencing the red flag bill. What part of "well regulated militia" don't you understand? You can't cherry pick text in the Amendments to base your entire worldview and personality on, but reality is, that's exactly what your type does. 

      I'm very disappointed that your military training didn't knock some sense into you when it comes to gun safety, which is all this bill is. If you're not threatening others or suicide, then you have nothing to worry about. Why is that so hard to understand?

            T***p has two more obstacles on his way to capturing the goverment and making it his own…a Democratic congress, and the American people.             1. He doesn't drink because his brother and his father died of alcoholism. Unfortunately, for him, abstaining from demon rum does nothing to mitigate his alcoholic personality. People have diagnosed him with all sorts of psychiatric conditions, but that one thing pretty much covers all the bases.

  17. Things have gotten a bit heated up in here, so perhaps it's time to take a step back and contemplate the fact that we're all Americans. That which unites us is greater than that which divides us.

    Though we often differ as to means, there is generally extensive agreement as to ends. Much common ground exists. For purposes of this thread, I'm certain all reasonable, right-thinking people can agree that the effort to recall the governor (flaccid and ineffectual though it may be) is led by actual, literal Nazis.
