    1. And yet Republicans yearn for the Golden Ages of the '50's and then later in the '80's when tax-raisin', deficit-explodin', Commie-deal-makin' Ronnie Raygun was in office!

        1. The Return of the Inexplicable Republican Best Friend

t’s a trope that dates back more than a decade, but the rise of Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has seen a recent surge in the Inexplicable Republican Best Friend (IRPF), a specific genre of concern-trolling where a long-time Republican operative, politician or pundit offers “advice” to Democrats about how they should avoid going “too far left.”

These takes—frequently featured as earnest appeals in liberal and centrist outlets—are ostensibly framed as straight-talk advice that should be accepted as objectively in the Democrats’ best interest, and never presented as an ideological argument that would otherwise make sense coming from a right-winger. “Republican hates socialism” isn’t that newsworthy, whereas “GOP operative identifies Democrats’ best interests” somehow is.

        2. I still find beto's resume too thin for president.  Plus, after 230 years of them making coffee, it’s going to be hard to ask women to settle for the second slot.

That said, Amy/Beto, in either order, would have two outstanding candidates and my enthusiastic support.  But please: no one over 70 on the presidential ticket.

        3. Charisma leading the ticket, competence in the ways of Washington (and mean attack dog) for Veep.  So Beto / Klobuchar becomes a possibility.

And Voyageur, I’m there with you on the ageist discrimination. Only I’d drop the age to exclude anyone eligible for Medicare & Social Security.

  1. Cookie, we need to start a collection to buy some smelling salts and maybe a defibrillator for Negev.  The Connecticutt Supreme Court just ruled Remington can be sued for its role in killing 20 kids and six teachers at Newtown.

What's this country coming to when the lives of kids outweigh windfall profits?

    1. More accurately, they said that a jury must be the ones to decide whether or not Remington stepped beyond the bounds of the law that protects them. Good ruling, but Remington is going to be apoplectic over the discovery alone.

      1. If it's a jury trial, I wouldn't rule out a gazillion dollar judgement (which will then be reduced by the presiding judge as excessive and appealed for the next decade). Is that what you meant by "how that lawsuit is gonna turn out"?

    2. What’s this about smelling salts and defibrillators? I'll chip in for a bucket of ice water, but that's as far as I go. Oh, wait, better make it two. Negev's sure to start babbling about gun rights in the morning, after the mosque attacks in New Zeland. We might want that second bucket for when someone tells Negev to go soak their head.

Yes, I'm still up. My sinuses are having a tantrum over that low air pressure and I can't sleep.

Oh. I just saw Negev’s comment. Couldn’t even wait ’til morning. I’ll say it first. Negev come soak your head.

      1. Well, I'm reading you at 4 a.m. because I misjudged my insulin and crashed my blood glucose.  Sigh.

Soaking a head seems a waste of ice water that could be used to self-medicate. Do you have a good recipe for fracking fluid?  I'm thinking a dash of bitters would help it go down.  But my nephew says the main ingredient is sand and for the life of me I don't know what our ex governor sees in it.

where is Mike Bowman when you need him?
