  1. This morning, I woke to their soulful song, coming from somewhere near.  It was the first I had heard it this year.  A little later, as I was preparing my morning coffee, I looked out the kitchen window and spotted a pair on the back side of the patio, just sitting, sunning and nuzzling.  I grabbed my camera and was going to snap a picture of that beautiful scene but did not.  I realized that if I opened the patio door, that natural scene would be gone.  Some memories are better left to the mind.

It needs no explanation, really.  It’s nature.

Our thoughts are with our friend Ralphie and his lovely wife on this day.

  2. Saturday Morning TV was time I spent with my daughter.  Some years it was PeeWee’s Playhouse, some years it was Dr. Who, but for a few years in the mid-1990s it was a bizarre show called “The Adventures of Pete and Pete.”  (More information, including an episode guide, here).

Bizarre or not, I thought it was one of the three best shows ever to run on TV (along with The Sopranos and The West Wing, of course, but those weren’t kid shows).  The fact that it was filmed in New Jersey just a few miles from my hometown didn’t hurt either.  The neighborhoods reminded me of home.

Today, I’m going to post a snippet of a song you’ve probably never heard by a band you’ve probably never heard of.  It reminds me of spending “together” time with my daughter.  Maybe David or MOTR or redstate will explain some day why was important for me to do that, today of all days.

There’s also another kid to whom I’d like to dedicate this song.  Mike Saccone, formerly of the Daily Sentinel, now with the AG’s office, was a huge fan when he was young.

    1. Oh that’s fantastic. I’ve never heard of this show–the theme song is cool. I’d have been hooked if I was a kid and heard that.

If I may, I’d like to refer folks to your blog, which is by far the most eloquent memorial I can remember reading in awhile.

And no, I won’t forget you next week. Or the week after that.

        1. There was a verse in there that WAS my daughter.  I’ll keep that to myself, though.

You know, for a Republican, you’re a pretty decent guy.  You’re just like the ones I enjoy having coffee and talking politics with–the ones who make me smarter.  The ones who understand that we all want the same things for our country, we just differ about how to go about achieving them.

Too bad more of the other ones who post here aren’t more like you.

      1. I forgot all about P&P

Freakin’ Iggy Pop was one of the dads.

And thanks for sharing the rest.   I’ve been thinking lately that being a good person isn’t enough. But seriously- what else is there?

I’m reminded of two things –
