Agreed. I am more excited about Inslee entering the presidential race than Hickenlooper. John would be a great opponent against Gardner. Presidential material not so much. Does Hickenlooper have any public information addresses so people can contact him?
Against Gardner, he gets no O&G money. In a Democratic primary…he gets most of it.

More likely he is going to be on the outside looking in and Gardner gets to go against a B string candidate. Inslee will take his lunch money, eat his lunch and send him home hungry. Hickenlooper can't compete with Inslee on Climate Change. Not even close.
I personally will take no joy whatsoever in watching John Hickenlooper embarrass himself and Colorado on the national stage . . .

Well, the race in Iowa is so long that hick could lose it and still have enough time to file against gardner. Romanoff would have quite a head start on him, however.
Why do you think he would embarrass himself or the rest of us? He was a successful two term governor and he was a successful two term mayor.

I don 't think he will embarrass himself. But with maybe 20 contenders, the odds aren't good that he gets one of the traditional "three tickets out." And he's a white male moderate, easily lost in the crowd.
…and then there is the "giddy up" speech. Surely he has thought of something new by now.
It will be impossible for me to support Frackenlooper against any Democrat who doesn't drink fracking fluid. I prefer him to ANY Republican, but will withhold any support of him until he comes clean about Clean-Stim. There is now a chance for real energy reform in this state. Time will tell.
Agree. Hick will forever be true to his roots as an oil and gas geologist. While he now talks a good game about natural gas being a bridge fuel, I'm not seeing that he wants anything but that to be a very, very long bridge.
Hick was also a very late and reluctant supporter of Colorado's cannabis economy, and willfully spread misinformation about it. His record on cannabis is mixed at best.
So I'm not buying the "cool dad" image he's trying to project – easy on pot, clean and green , but still industry friendly.

Let us not forget…Hick is Tweedledum to John Kasichs' Tweedledee. The centrists love him.
Hickenlooper did a good job (maybe fantastic) encouraging the renewable fuels industry in Colorado. I hold him no grudges for working as a geologist. We all still drive cars using fossil fuels. He was even handed in his executive duties and the state prospered while Obama was in the White House and Hickenlooper was in the Governors Mansion.
His problem is thumbing his noses at Democrats while waxing poetic about being a "Centrist" whatever the fuck that creature is. He comes across as a Dick Lamb/Bill Ritter "Fuck Democrats" kind of a candidate. I doubt it is going to sell to a Democratic base demanding immediate action on crimes by Republicans and Climate Change.
Rocky Mountain Institute (www.rmi.org) predicted several years ago that, in 2050, the country will still get 25% of its energy needs from natural gas. Coal will be gone and oil mostly gone. Call it whatever one wants; 2019 to 2050 is still 31 years and a long bridge.
RMI is pretty trustworthy. Do they recommend drinking fracking fluid to show how safe the industry is? Is Hick citing their research about how long fracking can continue at present or accelerated levels?

I think the whole matter of chugging down fracking fluid has been blown way too far out of proportion. Silly stunt to begin with, with lots of silly reactions at the time.

Down the memory hole: Hick tried hard to appoint Glen Vaad, a member of the ALEC group and no friend to clean energy, to a public utilities commission job. Hick only relented after a huge public petition push and outcry from environmentalists. Mr Green he isn’t.
I think the embarrassing aspect will be him trying to position himself as the safe white male alternative.

Count me in as proudly supporting Hickenlooper’s run for President. Yes, there were things he left on the table as Governor, but overall – he’s shown great leadership through his entire professional life and he has Presidential depth.
I’ll politely point out what a lot of you are missing – he’s going to be one of the most successful entrepreneurs/job creators in the race. That will appeal mightily to independents. Let’s also not forget that he did his part as Governor to get MMJ legalized and implemented – which will carry heavy weight in the primary and general.
Job creator and trailblazer on mmj – with a profile like that, he has to run for President and put his best foot forward. Hick can count on my support (although my endorsement likely loses votes 🙁 but they don’t know me in Iowa).

"Job creator" is not a qualification for President of the United States. It is a qualification for president of the local chamber of commerce.
If I added Hickenlooper to the list of 11 major declared candidates and exploratory committees I would put him at number #8 out of 12 on a preferential ballot. I would not go so far as to say that I oppose him, but I think it would be a mistake for Democrats to nominate him and I think he would make a mediocre to ineffective US President.
Being between extremes is by definition mediocre. I'll take Jay Inslee's extremism on Climate Change every time.
Good to read your posts again Muhammad but you're history is a bit off. Hickenlooper was a footdragger rather than a trailblazer when it came to legalization of Marijuana. The beer baron was a vocal opponent of recreational competition to Bud Light. It happened in spite of him.

You know my long standing conflict stems from Gov. Hickenlooper (I call him that here out of respect for you 😉) being such a toady for his oily boy friends from downtown. Beyond that, the "aw shucks" shtick gets old.
Otherwise, I will give him that which he earns. John is a corporatist at heart. He spends too much time with his wealthy friends.
I play in a motel bar. I get to know lots of regular people. The devotion he shows to the corporate business community doesn't help the people in my world. I live in a world of people about which the board of COGA doesn't give a shit.
Maybe if John got a little less closer and listened less to the denizens of the Republic building on 16th St. and a little more to the workers and their families who struggle everyday to survive, I might find his mission more compelling.
If John really believes the liquid he drank was actually fracking fluid, then he cannot be trusted to do what needs to be done to change American energy policy. It means he accepts plausible deniability and engages in the suspension of disbelief…in order to keep his friends. Sorry, Miguel, but that is a disqualifier.

Life is wonderful. My wife and little boy are great and their health is good. My company (helix mwr) is growing and keeps me tremendously excited at all times – I feel very blessed.

Western slope life continues to suit me fine, Miguel. Particularly since I retired a couple of years ago. After 20 yrs. as a general contractor, I am now filling my time living off the grid and playing guitar in the local bars.
I have a plan to create a family musical product, an album, if you will. All in all…life is great! Sorry to report that I am not on Facebook, except where others have posted a performance or event, but I guess I will need to when I have something marketable.

Credit for mmj? He'll get no credit on marijuana. He just vetoed a bill that passed the legislature last year extending medical use to folks on the autism spectrum, saying “If we sign that bill we end up, without question, in some way encouraging more young people to look at this as an antidote for their problems." He also vetoed legislation allowing for pot "tasting rooms" and allowing public investment in cannabis companies.
To say that Hick will get any credit around legal weed, one would have to be in a state that would result from partaking in the activity that the governor has long opposed. Hick doesn't want legal weed. Please, let's be honest about that.
