Buck Amps Up The Extremism During Campaign To Be State GOP Chair

To get a sense of just how deep the partisan divide goes in Colorado, take a look at Ken Buck, who’s running in an obscure election to lead the Colorado Republican Party.

Buck is already known nationally as a leader of the U.S. House Freedom Caucus, a group of the most conservative Congresspeople, unafraid to drive fellow conservatives nuts with their ideological stands on immigration, healthcare, guns, and more.

In recent days, Buck is speaking up here in Colorado, apparently hoping Republican voters are listening.

Buck is adamantly opposing legislation that would require criminal background checks when you transfer a gun to non-family member, even if you know the person (family members are excluded).

Bucks says this wouldn’t allow a priest from seeing “someone that might hurt himself and [saying], ‘Give me that gun.'”

But, Buck objects, the law would stop a foster parent from giving his or her foster child a gun.

Ironic, says Buck, because Democratic policies have “caused the breakdown of the family in this country.”

“And those people that are really suffering as a result of Democratic policies — the War on Poverty has created more poverty – that those people (foster children) that are suffering as a result of Democratic policies now, are going to be prosecuted under this law,” Buck told KHOW’s Krista Kafer.

“Democrats’ hypocrisy knows no bounds!”

Buck likes to talk about hypocrisy. He’s written a book about Washington D.C. that’s overflowing with the word.

But that didn’t stop Buck this week from coming out in favor of Trump’s state of emergency, even though Buck went on and on, for years, about the horrors of Obama’s alleged executive overreach to, among other things, stop the deportation young immigrants who came here as kids and know no other country as their home but America.

“It’s a failure of Congress, certainly,” Buck told KOA, in explaining his support of the state of emergency. “The fact that the Congress is not recognizing the terrible situation we have in this country with heroin, the fact that this Congress is not recognizing the terrible situation we have with transnational gangs that are crossing our southern border, I think is a failure. I think the emergency is that Congress is not acting when it knows the facts.”

But, as has been reported over and over again, the reality and the facts about immigration don’t support Trump’s cry for a wall–or Buck’s.

But will Colorado Republicans, as they vote for their state leader, shun Buck’s hypocrisy or lap it up? Hint: Why did Walker Stapleton woo Tom Tancredo?

    Fact: Only 5-10K kids kids in foster care in Colorado.
    Supposition on my part: 90% are under the age of 18.
    Therefore, 500-1000 "kids" are being denied access to guns.
    Question: What foster parent in their right mind would give their foster child over the age of 18 a gun?

    1. It's sillier than that, Dave. People age out of the foster care system at 18. Foster parents bear no responsibility for 18-year-old former foster kids, as they have no have no legal relationship with them.

    2. Foster home rules require any weapon to be stored in a locked container, with ammunition stored in a separate locked container. Also, weapons cannot be transported in the same vehicle as foster children unless the weapons are inoperable and inaccessible. These are not "Democratic" policies, Ken, but long-standing state policies.

    He's a US Representative in Congress.

    Pay check. Pension. Opportunity Big City, Bright ights. Hell he could do the SUnday shows once inawhile if wanted.
    But no, as dedicated as he is to public service, as motivated as he is to service – he wants to lead the local party.

    1. Buck is just hoping to a) stave off a primary opponent b) hold the NeverTrumpers at bay, and c) double dip while piously mouthing off about corruption and hypocrisy. This is from the guy who declared the Colorado Republican Party to be "dead" in 2017. Zombie Buck, anyone?

      Buck could supplement his $174,000 Congressional salary – The GOP Chairman's salary  would be an additional amount to be determined by the state governing committee.

      Per FEC filings, Current chair Jeff Hays received ~$63,000 during 2017-2018 for his one term tenure. Steve House, GOP chair during 2015-2017, famously declined to take a salary for the Chairman position, and faced a coup attempt and blackmail by AG Cynthia Coffman for his trouble. Ryan Call, chair during 2013-2014, received about $4100/month as salary (again, per FEC filings).

      So potentially, Ken Buck could follow precedent and pull down a nice $60-70K for a term as GOP chair, and in his role as overseer of  allocations of GOP funds to campaigns, kibosh any primary challengers and shore up his own campaign.

      But no conflict of interest there, no sirree Buck.

      I'm going to follow the example of my hero, CHB, here, and recommend a course of action for a political party I'm not a member of and have no intention of joining:

      The Colorado Republican Party should absolutely elect Ken Buck as party chair. He already barely attends Congress to vote, so his absence there wouldn't hurt his constituents at all. In fact, it might help. Ken Buck, as GOP chair, should definitely push the party to the most extreme anti-immigrant rhetoric possible. ISIS in Julesburg! Arm up!  Climate change is a hoax! (never mind the wildfires and drought).  Decry the rising debt while voting for the tax scam that raised it!

      With leaders like this, the Colorado GOP will be completely irrelevant within a year.

      1. I don't know mama.  The Republican Party budget will shrink and the money they owe skyrocket under Mr. Fiscal Hawk.  Do you really think they can handle his money manipulations the way he handles the taxpayers money?

        1. The financial collapse of #COLOGOP would be a predictable, but laudable, result of electing Buck as chair…(speaking as the self-appointed adviser to #COLOGOP )

          But Buck could always try to convince them that what they are seeing is not real – that they're really prosperous and everything is going to be just fine. It works for Buck's hero, $rump, when he talks to his base. When people want to believe in delusion, and brand all critical thinking and fact-based analysis as liberal "fake news", they're pretty easy to manipulate.

          They won’t rest or be satisfied until they’re extremely irrelevant.

  4. Buck apparently wants people to remove guns from those endangering themselves:

    Seems to suggest Buck is a closet Red Flag RINO. If it would be good for a priest to do that, it no doubt should be okay if a judge saw someone who might hurt himself and said 'Give me that gun.'"
