      1. Barnes seems to have a thing about age. Ain't gonna change.

Besides, there are other things to criticize Hick about (e.g., fracking). And Hick in his mid 60's is from the oldest ones in the race (i.e., Bernie at 80, Biden in his late 70's, Trump in his mid 70's, Warren almost 70).

      2. 13 months out from the Iowa primary, the nice people in Iowa are willing to mingle with neighbors and friends while hearing a candidate. I doubt you can find such a self-selected audience in Iowa who would not be nice enough to listen and "find him credible."

Heck … take a look at the Iowa welcome for Bernie Sanders 4 years ago:  https://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/elections/presidential/2015/01/21/bernie-sanders-iowa-february/22101641/

  1. Lifelong Democrat and billionaire forced to go full Third Way by a Democratic party he no longer recognizes.  What did it take?  A few politicians merely suggesting that tens of millions of folks should be able to see a doctor and maybe get paid enough to barely scrape by.

Howard Schultz Weighs 2020 Campaign, Drawing Mockery from Trump

“When I hear people espousing free government-paid college, free government-paid health care and a free government job for everyone — on top of a $21 trillion debt — the question is, how are we paying for all this and not bankrupting the country?” Mr. Schultz said.

“It’s as big of a false narrative as the wall,” he added. “Doesn’t someone have to speak the truth about what we can afford while maintaining a deep level of compassion and empathy for the American people?”

      1. "going off the deep end……."  All the talk about the Congressional Progressive Coalition and their desires brings to mind George McGovern and the 1972 campaign. Too much "progressive stuff" in 2020 could allow the Dems to seize defeat from the jaws of victory.

Speaking of "deep ends," my property tax bill for 2019 arrived end of last week and shows about an 18% increase over the 2018 bill. Almost all of the increase comes from the school mill levy increase in Jefferson County. One can hope that the school board will spend their new money wisely. Unfortunately, the past 15 years of history, excepting the period when the far right wingers controlled the board, says otherwise.

    1. Ok, but "facts" and "ideology" aren't really separable in this way. We can all be operating off of the same set of facts, but our ideological positions are what allow us to interpret those facts into concrete policy.

Indeed, without some sort of ideological position, it's impossible to interpret facts to create policy, and anyone telling you they're just working off of facts and not ideology is lying to you or lying to themselves.
