Gardner Says Democrats Advocating Policies And Opposing Trump "Based On Revenge"

Further aligning himself with Trump, despite the president’s unpopularity in Colorado, Sen. Cory Gardner (R-CO) accused Democrats Friday of opposing Republican policies based on “revenge” instead of what’s good for the country.

Gardner: “This is nothing more than a revenge majority,” Gardner said on Fox News’ ‘Fox and Friends’ Friday. “They want to fight against a president that they believe never should have been elected in the first place, and so the policies that they are pursuing are all going to be based on revenge: investigations, cutting border security, doing everything they can to provide that revenge.”

Gardner’s comment came as Trump has vowed to shut down the government to try to force Congress to fund a border wall. Gardner accused Democrats of wanting to cut border funds and having “no border-security plan.”

“It’s based on a revenge majority that they just elected to the House,” said Gardner.

Gardner added he would not favor a compromise by funding a portion of Trump’s request now and the rest later, but he thought such a plan might emerge.

“We know that border security is better when you have something like this in place,” he said.

“Let’s get this done,” said Gardner.

“First time we’ve heard that word, ‘revenge majority,'” said Fox and Friends host Steve Doocy at the end of the interview. “I have a feeling we’re going to hear it more.”

Gardner has long taken a hard line on immigration issues, opposing in-state tuition, back when it was passed in Colorado, for you undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. illegally as children. He’s signaled his support for a form of the Dream Act, after blocking the proposal earlier in his career.

While in the U.S. House, Gardner opposed the 2013 “Gang of Eight” bill, which passed with bipartisan support in the U.S. Senate but never went up for a vote in the U.S. House of Representatives. The bill would have overhauled the U.S. immigration system, and did include border security increases.

Revenge?
Wait until the Dimocrats control all 3.
Revenge will be the glorious FEMA reëducation camps run by the UN Agenda 21 people. And, you Cory, will be one of the first "invitees".
The Lizard People living underground at DIA have this all planned and Q will not save you Cory.

Gardner didn't get the message that Colorado rejected Republicans largely because of Trump. So, cozying up to Trump is not likely to work out for him. Gardner does not represent Colorado.

Senator Gardner's strategy seems obvious. He's making appearances on conservative shows, especially ones like Fox & Friends, to curry favor with Trump and to insure the Republican base will support him. At this stage of his reelection campaign, his goal is to ward off any primary challengers, so he will continue to contradict his previous positions to pull in his base. However, he is going to find it too much of a stretch when he begins to abandon his base a year down the road.

  I don't know … I keep having this idea that Gardner's appearances on conservative shows isn't to curry favor with Trump so much as a serve as a training ground and long-term audition for his very, very own television show.

    I think Cory wants a cabinet position; something in energy or foreign relations. Trump sent him to talk with Duterte, Chinese officials, others, even though he had more experienced diplomats to call on. He's apparently the go-to guy on relations with Asian countries, because of his experience on the foreign relations committee.

Paul Krugman puts Gardner’s message in the proper context:

As David Frum, the author of “Trumpocracy,” warned a year ago: “If conservatives become convinced that they cannot win democratically, they will not abandon conservatism. They will reject democracy.” That’s happening as we speak.

So Pelosi was right about Reed O’Connor’s ruling being a symptom of a “monstrous endgame,” but the game in question isn’t just about perpetuating the assault on health care, it’s about assaulting democracy in general. And the current state of the endgame is probably just the beginning; the worst, I fear, is yet to come.

Cory does share a core base of supporters with *rump; there just aren't that many of them in Colorado, although Morgan County has more than its share. Some of these Cory Believers posed for a group photo here:
