  1. See http://www.lpcolorado.org/ for results of the Libertarian Party of Colorado’s Annual Business Meeting and Convention (nominating assembly), which was Saturday in Denver.

LPCO has statewide candidates for Governor, Attorney General, and CU Regent At Large.

Congressional Districts being challenged are 2, 3, 6, and 7.

House Districts being challenged are 13, 53, and 57.

  2. Dear Kaiten and other Bush Loyalists:

Regardless of the sampling, perceived veracity, or other particulars in a given poll, say one showing Bush’s approval at 31%),  in aggragate across the nation, polls clearly and rather unambiguously (with amazingly similar responses, too, furhter eviscerating your defense), we find that–surprise surprise–BUSH SUCKS and most polled Americans agree.  In fact, in only four states does Bush poll at 50% or above(www.surveyusa.com–which also shows Bush’s bleeding polls over time, in all 50 states).

But, you are right: if Colo. Spgs was its own state (hey! a solution! Better yet, let’s just make it Dobslandia and allow it to secede altogether, motto: Jesus Loves Dobsville [Dobslandia’s capital, obviously] but He can’t stand you!) then it too would likely fit onto that 8% of our united states that still think Bush is doing a heckuva job (along with Brownie, Rummy, et. al).

Indeed, since Bushie’s love to claim we are a republic of states not a bunch of majority-minded democrats united into one nation (and thus W. having to be selected by the divided Court rather than elected by the People was good, fair, noble, and just) we should consider HOW the president is faring in each of the 50 states.

Looking at this info–Dobslandia, Utah, Oklahoma, Wyoming, and Utah notwithsatnding–the answer comes up the same.  Bush has failed and the American voters know it.  Will it translate to anger against the GOP this November?  We will see, we will see.

You come across as another blind Bushie loyalist, unable to see the massive, large tome written upon the wall. It states:

Upon the foundation of this failed administration, is slaked the blood of many that should not have died.

  3. In only 4 of the 28 states that went for Bush in 2004, the president remains above 50%.  In Alabama, that’s Alabama–republican cracker center of the universe–Bush is polling at 45%.  Indiana–home of Danni “potatoe-head” Quayle–Bush is at 40%.  In KY, he’s down to 39%.  In New York state and Rhode Island, the president is approaching a 20% approval rating.  (Currently 24%).  Bush rated a 36% approval in Colorado.

Rove Blames Iraq War for Low Bush Numbers

By TOM RAUM, Associated Press Writer 12 minutes ago

WASHINGTON – Presidential adviser Karl Rove blamed the war in
Iraq on Monday for dragging down
President Bush’s job approval ratings in public opinion polls. “People like this president,” Rove said. “They’re just sour right now on the war.”

Rove said that Bush’s likeability ratings are far higher than his approval ratings. “There is a disconnect” because of the Iraq conflict, Rove told the American Enterprise Institute.

  5. David Corn Confronts Rove On Lying About Plame Leak

This morning, Karl Rove gave a speech at the American Enterprise Institute. During the question and answer session, David Corn of the Nation Magazine asked him why he fed White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan misinformation about his involvement in leaking Valerie Plame’s identity. (Rove told McClellan that he was “not involved.”) Rove refused to answer.  Full transcript:

CORN: David Corn from “The Nation Magazine” on a different subject. Scott McClellan told the White House press corps, many who are here today, that he had spoken to you and you were not involved in the CIA leak. Can you explain why the American public, almost two and a half years later, hasn’t been given an explanation and don’t you think it deserves one for that misinformation because it does seem you were to some degree, though maybe disputed, involved in that leak?

ROVE: My attorney Mr. Luskin made a statement on April 26th. I refer to you that statement. I have nothing more to add to it. Nice try, though.

  6. What follows is the reason that every sane minded Republican should move as far away from the Bush administratioon as possible.  Data-mining for terrorists my ass! (Unless you consiter critics of the administration terrorists) They seem to idolize the Gestapo.

This just in from ABC news:

    Government Spying on Reporters

Sources reveal that cell phones belonging to reporters at ABC News and other major news organizations are being monitored in connection with a widespread investigation of leaks at the CIA.
“It’s time for you to get some new cell phones, quick,” the source told us in an in-person conversation.

  7. In thinking about President Bush’s term of office, I thought this morning “why is it that I dislike him as a President so much?”  I guess the first item on the list is his arrogance.  The second is his unwillingness to visit the families of our men and women at the beginning of the war.  The third, is his smirk that carried “I’m better and more knowledgeable than WE THE PEOPLE.”  I guess, I don’t like all the lies from the administration and the many good people that have left his administration over the past 6 years (I very much liked Colon Powell — he obviously didn’t like his policies either).  The forth, President Bush is confrontational … he even goes after elderly ladys on the press at news conferences.  The fifth, President Bush has sought to take away a great portion of our Liberty in this country … everyone in the country has feared that the “Patriot Act” was to be used to take awy our Liberty over time.  The Sixth, “why did we go to war against Iraq?  We still don’t know “why” for sure, and Bin Laden is still FREE — that doesn’t set right with me!!!

Help me out with adding why I simply don’t like this President.

  8. Another reason “why” I don’t like this President and “why” I think he needs to be IMPEACHED.

Weak US dollar weighs on markets
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/4771495.stm

Weakness in the US dollar has continued to overshadow global stock markets as investors offloaded exporters on fears that corporate earnings will decline.  Commodity markets have also slumped, with traders beginning to ask if recent record prices were justified.

  9. Likeable?  Why in the world do people consider a Connecticut boy, the son of a President in a long lineage of power and privilege, who went to Andover and Yale before moving to Texas to begin a string of business failures, likeable?

Terrorists crashed planes into American buildings, and this guy literally froze like a third-grader in a spelling bee.  Sat on his ass in a classroom for minutes while Andy Card waited in vain for him to show leadership.  Then a year later, he gave up on finding Osama bin Laden, left Afghanistan to crumble again, and invaded a country that didn’t attack us.

Can someone really be “a nice guy” and not care about Americans’ safety, health, or economic woes?  Not in my book.

  10. We also cannot forget the horrible response from President Bush with Katrina.  My gawd, people died in New Orleans because of his poor leadership qualities.  HE JUST LOOKED LIKE HE DIDN’T CARE !!!

  11. Patriot,

If he cared, he would have done something about it.  But nothing’s been done about most of the poorer old neighborhoods in New Orleans, and large parts of the city are still uninhabitable.

Now many of the National Guard troops usually at the ready to help with hurricane season are going to be marching along the border–without being able to engage in enforcment–so reporters can take pictures.  I really hope this latest effort by Bush to rescue his poll numbers fails, because we need all hands on deck to help when the storms come again.

  12. from Froomkin, today-

According to the latest Newsweek poll, 53 percent of Americans think the NSA’s surveillance program ‘goes too far in invading people’s privacy,’ while 41 percent see it as a necessary tool to combat terrorism. . .

Among the other findings, 50 percent of Americans now think Bush will go down in history as a below average president, with 32 percent saying average and 16 percent saying above average.

  13. and…

Hearst columnist Helen Thomas asked the question of the day:

“QUESTION: How are you going to make this administration more credible?

“TONY SNOW: I’m not going to answer questions about credibility, other than to say that I’m eager to be here and I’m happy to be working with you.

“QUESTION: Are you ever going to — always going to tell the truth?

    “TONY SNOW: Yes.”

  14. Hipp —

As I recall, President Bush went golfing the day before the hurricane hit New Orleans.  He was receiving calls from FEMA, the Governors of Lousianna and Mississippi, and others.  But when it came down to being concerned about the nation, President Bush was probably too busy, thinking about all that oil in Iraq first.

  15. Patriot,

We can beat this horse all day of course, but I think Bush and clearly Heckuvajob Brownie were most interested initially in limiting the PR damage to the administration when Katrina hit.  Michael Brown seems to have obsessed about nothing else but “how does this look for FEMA?” for about the first 30 hours.  They both thought it was a modest storm that they could ignore and paper over with press releases later.  I’m not sure what they do take seriously.

  16. John McCain tells Colorado Pols participants to grow up and get a life:

“When I was a young man, I was quite infatuated with self-expression, and rightly so because, if memory conveniently serves, I was so much more eloquent, well-informed, and wiser than anyone else I knew…It’s a pity that there wasn’t a blogosphere then. I would have felt very much at home in the medium.”

This is a quote from McCain’s speech yesterday at Jerry Falwell’s Liberty University.

Blogs are one of the few areas where civic discourse happens today.  We all know how shrill things can get on blogs, but John McCain should be listening to citizens, not calling them smug.

  17. I don’t want John McCain as our next President — we would be getting a carbon copy of what we currently have in our oval office.  I don’t trust any President that speaks with a backdrop of a religion, a money supportive organization, or a corporation.

I would trust a President that “speaks” to America from his heart, like on the steps of the memorial to Lincoln.  Otherwise, all this fluff only makes me worry that nothing will change.  I want change.  I want truth.  I want our Liberty to be protected as the number ONE priority.  And we should have had a fence along our borders a long time ago.  Our government has let US all down.

    The Spies Who Shag Us

The Times and USA Today have Missed the Bigger Story — Again

    A BUZZFLASH GUEST CONTRIBUTION
    by Greg Palast

I know you’re shocked — SHOCKED! — that George Bush is listening in on all your phone calls. Without a warrant. That’s nothing. And it’s not news.

This is: the snooping into your phone bill is just the snout of the pig of a strange, lucrative link-up between the Administration’s Homeland Security spy network and private companies operating beyond the reach of the laws meant to protect us from our government. You can call it the privatization of the FBI — though it is better described as the creation of a private KGB.

    ********************
For the full story, see “Double Cheese With Fear,” in Armed Madhouse: Who’s Afraid of Osama Wolf and Other Dispatches from the Front Lines of the Class War.”
    ********************

The leader in the field of what is called “data mining,” is a company, formed in 1997, called, “ChoicePoint, Inc,” which has sucked up over a billion dollars in national security contracts.

Worried about Dick Cheney listening in Sunday on your call to Mom? That ain’t nothing. You should be more concerned that they are linking this info to your medical records, your bill purchases and your entire personal profile including, not incidentally, your voting registration. Five years ago, I discovered that ChoicePoint had already gathered 16 billion data files on Americans — and I know they’ve expanded their ops at an explosive rate.

They are paid to keep an eye on you — because the FBI can’t. For the government to collect this stuff is against the law unless you’re suspected of a crime. (The law in question is the Constitution.) But ChoicePoint can collect it for “commercial” purchases — and under the Bush Administration’s suspect reading of the Patriot Act — our domestic spying apparatchiks can then BUY the info from ChoicePoint.

Who ARE these guys selling George Bush a piece of you?

ChoicePoint’s board has more Republicans than a Palm Beach country club. It was funded, and its board stocked, by such Republican sugar daddies as billionaires Bernie Marcus and Ken Langone — even after Langone was charged by the Securities Exchange Commission with abuse of inside information.

I first ran across these guys in 2000 in Florida when our Guardian/BBC team discovered the list of 94,000 “felons” that Katherine Harris had ordered removed from Florida’s voter rolls before the election. Virtually every voter purged was innocent of any crime except, in most cases, Voting While Black. Who came up with this electoral hit list that gave Bush the White House? ChoicePoint, Inc.

And worse, they KNEW the racially-tainted list of felons was bogus. And when we caught them, they lied about it. While they’ve since apologized to the NAACP, ChoicePoint’s ethnic cleansing of voter rolls has been amply rewarded by the man the company elected.

And now ChoicePoint and George Bush want your blood. Forget your phone bill. ChoicePoint, a sickened executive of the company told us in confidence, “hope[s] to build a database of DNA samples from every person in the United States …linked to all the other information held by CP [ChoicePoint]” from medical to voting records.

And ChoicePoint lied about that too. The company publicly denied they gave DNA to the Feds — but then told our investigator, pretending to seek work, that ChoicePoint was “the number one” provider of DNA info to the FBI.

  19. AirAmerica and Greg Palast.

Now there’s an unbiased duo.  LOL

It starts out with the big lie:

George Bush is listening in on all your phone calls.

    and goes downhill from there.

  20. Ref C fattening state’s payroll

    May 15, 2006
Democrats added more than 1,000 new jobs to the state’s payroll this legislative session while claiming to be frugal with the Referendum C windfall, some Republicans say.Democrats say they didn’t have a choice: Voters gave them a clear mandate to restore critical programs when they passed Ref C last November.
But conservative Republicans maintain the majority party has grown government.

“At the end of the day, Ref C was to make the state whole,” said Sen. Jim Dyer, R-Centennial, an outspoken opponent of the tax measure. “What they’re doing is creating more jobs, more programs and adding new employees for almost everything you think of.”

    http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/government/article/0,2777,DRMN_23906_4699257,00.html

Your (former) tax refund at work.

  21. Remarkable,

Jim Dyer’s not being honest.  From the same article you quoted:

But for the most part, they say, the legislature is simply restoring positions cut in the past four years after Colorado’s economy took a nose-dive, forcing the state to make nearly $1 billion in budget cuts.

Even your hero Jon Caldara acknowledges Democrats are more trustworthy with your tax dollars:

[Caldara] said Democrats are not solely to blame for spending nearly every dime flowing into the state’s coffers.

Democrats, since capturing control of the legislature in 2004, have done more priority-based budgeting than the Republican leadership when it controlled the legislature, Caldara said.

  22. Doug Lamborn sent a mailer today attacking Jeff Crank for naming his son after Joel Hefley.  Pretty sick and shameless of the Lamborn campaign.  But I guess that’s what we’ve come to expect from these jokers.

  23. I haven’t seen the recent Lamborn mailer but I did receive an e-mail invition for his pre-assembly event.  I had already rsvp’ed for Anderson’s event – I’ll take a wine and cheese event anyday over a “picnic” event in an old barn – whatever that is.  Is it just me or does anyone else find his banner a little misleading?  It appears to be his banner from his new website but it’s pretty presumptious – he doesn’t label himself a candidate at all.  I think his campaign is starting to unravel.  Crank has worked this vote pretty hard so I suspect he will be the top line on Friday.  Any  bets on what the numbers will be from the CD5 Assembly?

  24. I just called the Lamborn campaign about this supposed mailer they did. They never sent out anything of the sort.  Thats outrageous you would make something like that up.  At least in the old days, the Crank campaign would just copy someone elses thoughts, now you are fabricating lies all by yourself.  Joshua/Jeff/Jim/Joel whoever it is, don’t lie about stuff like that anymore.

  25. Yooper,

Leaving out the “for” in “Joe Schmoe for U.S. Congress” seems to be fairly common these days, so I wouldn’t blame Lamborn in particular.  It gives an impression of inevitability and saves one word, so I see why they do it.

  26. From:
    http://newsblab.com/blabbingmikesblog/nfblog/?p=575

Republican candidate for Senate District 9 “dumps” President Bush!

Dave Schultheis, the current Republican candidate going for the State Senate District 9 seat… unless the other Republican contender Eric Singer manages to get enough petition signatures and beats Schultheis in a primary, has made a very drastic change to his election website over the weekend. He “dumped” President Bush from the site.
As of this blog posting, Schultheis has removed the main page photo of he and Bush standing next to each other all buddy-buddy. A photo that he was so proud to display in the past, as it graced the main page of his website for so long… until today!

One has to wonder if this removal was made to prevent certain “first impressions” that he sides with his Republican boss… since the Republican President’s approval rating is at an all time low and might even go lower after his address to the country tonight, some speculate… Republican’s included. For Dave Schultheis to have removed his photographic association with Bush just hours prior to the scheduled speech makes one wonder… What message does this send?… What message did he intend it to send?

News Blab did send an e-mail inquiry to Schultheis about the photo’s removal and the timing of that removal, but no response has yet been received.
You can see the current & previous snapshots of his website at http://www.newsblab.com.

  27. Man of the Hour:

Not sure who you talked to with the Lamborn camp but I too received one of these letters.  The mailer was from DOUG BRUCE and he slams all of the other candidates while all flowery about Lamborn.  It says Bruce paid for it but c’mon….as sneaky as Lamborn is, you know darn well they knew about the mailing.  It’s only convenient to say they didn’t “technically” send it.  Doug Lamborn is dirty — I remember what he did to Tom Ratteree and I have no doubt his dirty tricks will be played again.  He was up to nastiness at the El Paso County Assembly having his staffers pass out materials to distract while other candidates were talking.  It’s dirty and he should be held accountable.
