Elway Is A Loser On And Off The Football Field This Election Season

(Sad trombone – Promoted by Colorado Pols)

John Elway and Tim Neville

One reason political analysts think the waters of the blue wave won’t be leaving Colorado anytime soon is the absence of a Republican candidate who appears to be able to win.

Bronco legend John Elway has been thought of as such a candidate in the past, even though he’s apparently never really wanted to run.

And, even if he did, he appears to be on a deep losing streak, presiding over both a losing football team and endorsing failed GOP candidates.

John Elway and Beth Martinez Humenik

His favorite candidates appear to have included State Sen.Tim Neville (R-Littleton), who lost to Democrat Tammy Story; GOP businesswomen Christine Jensen, who lost to State Rep. Jessie Danielson  (D-Wheat Ridge); and State Sen. Beth Martinez Humenik (R-Thornton), who was defeated by Democratic State Rep. Faith Winter, of Adams County.

Apparently trying to jump to an early lead, the Superbowl quarterback gave $10,000 in August to Better Colorado Now, which spent heavily on behalf Walker Stapleton, who was blown out by Democrat Jared Polis by over 10 percentage points. Whether that entity was playing by the rules when Stapleton helped collect early donations has been questioned.

Elway later handed off $1,150 to Stapleton for Colorado.

Even late in the game, when things were looking bad for Republicans, Elway lobbed in thousands of dollars to state Republican groups, which supported Stapleton, Neville, Jensen, Humenik, and others.

Overall, Elway donated over $50,000 dollars to Colorado Republicans, generating headlines like, TMZ’s “John Elway C$sh for Colorado GOP Candidates,” and the Colorado Springs Gazette’s,John Elway goes deep with political contributions in 2018.”

Who’s The Bigger Loser? Republicans Or Broncos?

Elway’s mounting losses on and off the field surely add insult to injury during a painful election season.

Elway has not issued a statement about the election losses, according to a Broncos spokesman, who said the donations have nothing to do with the football team.

For Elway, the guy he picked for governor won’t be getting the job, and his head coach looks like he’ll be losing his soon, writes the 247Sports blog, after Bronco’s head coach Vance Joseph has lost 17 of his 25 games.

But to be fair, many of Joseph’s losses were a lot closer than the Republican collapse in Colorado this year.

  1. I remember Elway fondly as the golden boy QB that led the Broncos into Championships and Superbowls . That said, he's a heckuva lot less impressive as just another right wing dork with too much money and too little conscience.

    1. I remember, perhaps less fondly, the spoiled brat golden boy who refused to play for the Baltimore Colts after he was drafted, his craptacular first two years in Denver, his back stabbing of Reeves after that coach stuck by him even after his disastrous first two years, his being the worst businessman ever in Colorado and still, somehow, coming out smelling like a rose, . . .

      and, oh yeah . . .

      . . . but that’s just me.  YMMV.

        1. Ohh, there was a lot more.   He led us to five super bowls, not just two.   Only Tom Brady was better in the last two minutes.

Yes, he's an asshole politically.  So is Peyton Manning.   So was Lillian Hellman.  Athletes, artists, can be enjoyed for their skills.

if it's political wisdom you want, check with Duke or Gertie.   And even then you have to take the rants about the "oily boyz" with a grain of salt.

          😉
