Education folks are leery about some of his education picks: Mike Johnston and Jen Wahler of DFER. But he also has the president of CEA and former DPS school board member Elaine Berman. It does seem to be kind of heavy on the charter / private schools side; but if Polis is to realize his proposed public/private partnership for free universal preschool, all voices will need to be at the table.
I really can't fault his other team picks. Wanda James representing cannabis and black small business owners, Sal Pace speaking up for rural infrastructure and clean economic development; Ramona Martinez, city council president; and more.
I'll wait and see how all this shakes out before picking holes in it. It looks like a promising start to really try to listen to all stakeholders. I'd like to see some more environmental and anti-fracking groups represented. Only the Sierra Club, is on there now, as far as I can tell.
The Sierra Club? Yeesh! Not exactly who I would pick. My experience with them doesn't fill me with confidence.
I challenged gov-elect Polis a few months ago over the issue of O&G development. I was not convinced that he will be any less an enabler of the Oily Boyz than his predecessor..
Perhaps he will not earn the name Governor Petrolis, as Hick became Frackenlooper for his famous lie about fracking fluid. But I will not hesitate to call him out. I am sure he has a lot of people chattering in his ear telling him how he must not hurt the Oily Boyz fee-fees.
I don't have much confidence in him, mama. Time will tell.
I have reservations, too, Duke. I may be missing somebody, but Dan Gibbs of Summit County and Sarah Shrader of Grand Junction appear to be the only Western Slopers on his committees. The complete lack of people from the water community deeply disturbs me. You'd think there wasn't a drought or something.

Is Stulp a credible "water guy"? Hunter Lovins is cofounder of RMI and CEO of Natural Capitalism, and her inclusion on this committee does a lot to reassure me about including long term environmental sustainability into the conversation.
My Western Slope criticism stands. Stulp, while credible, is Front Range and the Eastern Plains. Both, Colorado history shows, are hardly shy about raiding the Western Slope for their needs.
I know Elise. She is ordinarily a powerful voice for Colorados' environment. I haven't seen her in years, and things change when you become an elected, but I think she will at least be the one to call " Bullshit".
Governor Ritter did a great thing as governor and was willing to endure the slings and arrows of an army of outrageous oil and gas industry attack dogs ( the viciousness of their assault, I believe was the primary reason he did not seek a second term.), in order to help with the passage of significant legislation vis a vis the rules. I will always be grateful to him for that.
It seems, though he has been trying to make it up to them ever since. Time will tell.
The biggest problem is the agencies above are filled with politically motivated people. They have those jobs for a reason. I used to think those places were bastions of scientific thought and principle. Polis will be getting advice from lots of people. Who does he trust?

He has his own money and didn't accept contributions from anyone over $100.
Right..I forgot he is about $100,000,000 richer than me. And, as I said, I spoke with him at a meet and greet in Palisade early in the campaign. His answers and comments didn't impress me.
I will gladly be proven wrong, but I do not expect him to challenge the industry and reverse the damage done by Frackenlooper.
If he really wants to help education he should lead the charge to repeal the Ad Valorem Tax Credit and give the money to the education budget. That would impress me. I certainly will not indict him at this point. I just don't have high expectations.

Actually, if Jared is only $100 million richer than you, then you are worth $275 million. His net worth was estimated at $375 million before the campaign.
Minus, say $25 million for the campaign, he'd still be ballpark $350 million.

Why not give Polis a chance before assuming the worst? From what I've heard I think he wants to find something that most of us will view as reasonable & balanced.
Tim Marquez is on Polis' team. He is a philanthropist who has really helped DPS students with scholarships. He also owns an oil company that has wrecked some of California's coastlines, and since gone bankrupt, as far as I can tell. Anyone know recent news on Venoco, Marquez' oil company?
