Morning.
Confused about the Amendments & proposals on the ballot?
Fear not – you have Dave's "Fair & Balanced" Guide to the Colorado 2018 Amendments and Proposals.
Good morning..
When mini bosses are left to run things by a disinterested and ineffectual leader, they will take it upon themselves to make decisions that will likely be found objectionable by other mini bosses.
Kelly and Bolton going after it in the White house is a symptom of T***ps' abdication of even the semblance of running the country. He is running for re-election.
It is indicative of a vast emptiness and hunger for sustenance in the soul of this vain and self obsessed man, that he cannot seem to go a couple of days without having his ego fed by an ever shrinking crowd of acolytes, who still revel in the naked aggression and bigotry he encourages them to display.
I am not sure how much more of this deranged autocrat this country can endure.
"America First" is going to wind up making us dead last. Joe Biden said that yesterday.
It has never been more important for every person to vote against this imperial, dictatorial machine being constructed by the Trumplicans©.
"Vote them out"…Willie Nelson / 2018
Seems like the perfect placement for this, Duke.
So agree, Duke. I know there are people who believe it will "all work out" somehow, because it always has. But there is tremendous damage that has been done (and continues to be done) that will take substantial effort and time to recover from – our country's international reputation, our environment, our rights, some semblance of unity, and even our basic understanding of what is required to maintain a democratic republic.
The anger and incitement to violence perpetrated by Trump is inexcusable – and it will take a while to help the small-minded Trumpies understand that they cannot commit crimes (assault and worse) to further their political views.
One of the most worrisome things to me is that there is not one strong voice – or a clear collection of strong voices – to speak against Trumpism and to speak for our country's values, to provide a different kind of leadership around which the majority can rally. Doesn't have to be a political voice but it might help if it were, because that's where the potential for power is.
That unifying voice can be the U.S.Congress if the American people get off their entertained asses and vote. Without a doormat of a congress to let him run and protect him from prosecution, this insane, criminal conspiracy that is the T***p administration can be restrained and investigated.
When it becomes apparent that this nutcase in the White House will not hold the Saudi royal family accountable, will his supporters see that he will someday expect the same deference from other dictators around the world? A world order in which each brutal leader is free to brutalize his own people is one way to keep order…but, I don't like it.
Clearly we need the checks and balances of a functional Congress, but (1) They're not that functional these days; (2) I don't see one (or several) strong voices there who have the necessary leadership qualities around whom people can unite.
It will help, of course, if the Dems can win the majority in the House – but we still need a voice that can inspire and rally people, particularly as the 2020 Presidential election approaches.
I'm just gonna leave this here:https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trump/trump-praises-u-s-congressman-from-montana-who-body-slammed-reporter-idUSKCN1MT06L

Now we need to get Ben Sisko to take him on.
Now that is really DEEEEEP Space Nine!
I am going to go live in the worm hole until 1/20/21.

But if I recall correctly, didn't Gul Dukat have large hands?
Did I miss someone talking about Mitsch Bush getting a "bump" in status for the CO-03? Fivethirtyeight.com has a "Classic" forecast putting her in "Toss-Up" status since last Tuesday. House Forecast: Colorado Third
4 in 9 Chance the Democrat wins (44.1%) 5 in 9 Chance the Republican wins (55.9%)
That is based on "Forecasted turnout: Our model expects 281,000 out of an estimated 546,000 eligible voters to cast a ballot — that's 51.5%"
You can see a discussion about it between Nate Silver (from 538 who moved the race) and Cook's House editor in this Twitter thread (several posts down). They disagree on the race and talk a bit about why.
The district is structured such that it needs a big push from Pueblo voters (or correspondingly low turnout elsewhere) to push a D over the top, but we'll see.
I am wondering how much time people who predict western slope politics actually spend here.
I am playing at a fundraiser for DMB on Monday. She has an uphill battle. Republican voters here are very attuned to dog whistle politics. The traditional Republican, that has been a part of running CD3 as long as I can remember, hears "socialist" and higher taxes and that is all they hear.
So far, There has been no mention here of Tipton in his own ads, except that he approves them. No glad tidings of his success on our behalf. Just attack ads…which surprises no one but often works among western slope Pubs.
The answer to your question about how much time forecasters spend on the Western Slope is zero.
As to turnout, Pueblo is the key as usual. I think the Republican base on the Western Slope is fired up about Prop. 112 and will turn out to vote against it. Diane needs the resort communities, Gunnison, Durango and especially Pueblo to show up big time.
They are truly over the top on the anti 112 effort. I truly resent the "ban drilling in Colorado" bullshit. The biggest lie of all.
It's an oldie but goodie, Duke. You'll recall the rewrite of the oil & gas regs (when industry money took out Bernie Buescher) and they bellowed the same thing. Of course they brag that Colorado already is the toughest regulating state and that they thrive. But not if the latest proposal, whatever it is, passes.
Well, it does effectively ban drilling on 85 percent of private land. 112 is an ultra extreme attack by the freeze in the dark crowd and, yes, I've always feared the collateral damage the necessary fight against it would cause.
V. Can you show me some proof of that? There are vast tracts of private land in this state that have NO residences anywhere close. The impacts claimed by the O&G crybabys are made up bullshit. Until someone shows me proof…data that can be analyzed…I will consider it all phony whining by the industry that does it best.
The data is from the colorado oil and gas commission, a pretty authoritative source. Remember, each dwelling knocks out almost a square mile, a circle 5000 feet in diameter, almost a mile.p
plus losses for creeks, etc. It's clear the freeze in the darkers are acting in bad faith — they want to destroy the industry. Do you really think there are large swaths of private land with fewer than one dwelling per section?
In my own case, every inch of my farm would be locked up.
You really think increasing set backs 25 fold is reasonable? Increasing the diameter from the present 1000 feet to 5000 feet is a punitive measure intended to destroy the industry.
I don't expect to convince you, you have made your hatred of the industry clear on many occasions, including this one. But we will do our best to crush this Stalinist assault. And, yes, there will be collateral damage to the left because firing up our base will increase conservative turnout.
That’s what happens when you try to destroy an entire industry and put thousands of people out of work, including my brother in law and nephew.
In other words, no links for you, Duke. No actual data. A post on this has been on my to do list for awhile, but we're busy dropping lit, so it may have to wait again.
And the fact that the freeze in the dark crowd has nothing but blind hate behind its jihad is also a factor in your inability to produce data that a 2500 percent increase in set backs would not destroy thousands of jobs and billions in tax revenues.
You want facts, just google colorado prop 112. I can’t link from the Amazon fire but the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission studybshows up, along with data about the billions in tax revenue and thev147,000 jobs you will cost the state.
Do the math, even the uber left can do that . A circle 5000 feet in Diameter is 25 times as large as one 1,000 feet in diameter. And,, yes, the data is available from the oil and gas commission.
If the Stalinist position is reasonable, why doesn't polis support it? Or any other prominent Democrat?
Because it is extremist crap, that,'s why. So, yeah, I think we'll have to wait a while for you to make up data showing most of Colorado has a density of less than one dwelling per square mile.
Good luck with that.
Then by your figuring, 4 houses in a subdivision, each 10 ft. from the other, would exclude 4 sq. miles..? WTF, V.?
That is bullshit on the level of Frankenloopers' famous sip of "fracking fluid"…a fluid derived by industry engineers that COULD HAVE been used to frack a well but, in fact, never has been used….for anything other than a cheap publicity stunt. Certainly, I have yet to have anyone verify its use in fracturing a well…ever…anywhere.
You can repeat the bogus statistics pumped out by the Oily Boys, ad nauseum, but it doesn't make them true.
In your four homes ten feet apart example, Duke –and we all know how common that is in rural Colorado, (snark) you would confiscate mineral rights in about one square mile, since the circles mostly overlap. But put just ten of them almost a mile apart and you block ten sections. Ten east- west and ten north south blocks almost 100 square miles — on an incredibly low density of one dwelling per square mile. And that's before you seize other rights because they are within a half mile of even a dry creek that might run for 20 miles.
Yes, this is extremist crap. We'll probably crush it but the danger is that citizens may pass 74 to protect themselves — a far right measure that would do almost as much damage as far-left 112.
Dump on them both!
For Moddy, this is even worse than the looming imposition of Sharia Law!
The only agenda today's GOP cares about
