Dave “What I’m hoping is that, yes, that person may have AIDS, have it seriously as a baby and when they grow up, but the mother will begin to feel guilt as a result of that” Schutheis is stepping into the 2010 legislative session without looking back. This afternoon he was the exclusive NO vote against Martha Rudolph’s appointment to Executive Director of the Department of Public Health and Environment. He explains his vote was negative because the Babylonian-native Rudolph knows climate change is effected by the perversion known to the lay-heathen as “carbon”. Given that people emit a lot of the element, Rudolph automatically tempts people into thinking men may be powerful enough to control the weather (by fucking it up beyond control). Without proper information, this could strike fear into the hearts of the righteous ones, deflecting their eyes from the Light and Truth of God.
From his blogspot
While well qualified, Ms. Rudolf was asked her views on two extremely important issues:
1) Is there an issue with global warming…and is it caused by humans? Her answer to both related questions was an unqualified “yes.”
2) Does she consider CO2 to be a pollutant? Her answer: It is a contributor to Global Warming, although it does not fit easily into the federal Clean Water Act…
…Based on her answers to the committee, I voted NO and will debate these issues on the full floor of the Senate when this comes to the full Senate for confirmation
What an awesome debate that will be.
I know. This ain’t news.

of their ignorance and, apparently, want everyone else to know.
David Schulteis is proof that either God has a sense of humor, or that he’s completely incompetent.
….some years ago, I didn’t know who DS was. In short order, as he spoke and voted, my reaction was on the lines of “Who IS this asshole?”
It wasn’t just because of his votes, but his whole attitude and demeanor. He actually voted “No” on some housekeeping issues that fellow Republicans voted “Yes” on.
I think he’s proud of being a hole. His self identity.
He proclaims it on his blog. The original Party of No (of One)

Sounds kinda fruity to me, actually.
Schultheis is a fraud.
…but it is pretty damn funny there’s an area of Colorado that re-elected such a man time and again.
As a resident of Mesa County, an analogous part of Colorado, it does get old after a while.
when he’s not your Senator or Representative. I’ve lived with Lundberg for 8 years and now his mini-me for another two. Believe me, there’s nothing fun about having zero representation in your district or county of decades on end.
Did she get it wrong or did he? I assume he did. It’s the Clean Air Act. Not that DS would want any of them. People should be free to pollute the air and the water that we all share with impunity. It’s the American way.
but in this instance, she is referring to carbon as a gas. Perhaps there is something in the Clean Water Act that may pertain to the definition of carbon as a pollutant. I dunno.
Here’s the wiki on CWA
is that SCOTUS ruled in 2008 that EPA has the power under the Clean Air Act to declare CO2 a pollutant. Under the W Admin they had claimed that the EPA did not have that authority. The EPA under Obama is pushing forward on regulating CO2 under the CAA, although they are currently only doing so as a stick to get Congress moving toward passing a legislative solution rather than an administrative one.
(CWA has no role on regulating CO2.)
One commentator called it “Brown v. Board of Education for the environment.” It was also noteworthy for giving the state of Massachusetts standing to bring suit as a party injured by the EPA’s failure to declare CO2 a pollutant and regulate its emissions (coastal property, and all that).
Sorry, Indi, I just get all warm and fuzzy inside when folks cite legal precedent! 🙂
represents what I call “organized ignorance.” It’s like when the marketing genius who managed to make a fortune on “pet rocks” a few decades ago decided to take it one step further, and tried to market “absolutely nothing.” We’ve always had organized political movements that were implicitly founded on ignorance, but Shultheis has perfected the pure form, stripped of any pretense of being anything else.
Kudos.
