What you can do to fight back this week (September 24)

Once again, Colorado is ground zero in a U.S. Supreme Court confirmation battle.

Yesterday, an explosive new story from investigative journalist Ronan Farrow documents a second allegation of severe sexual misconduct committed by U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. [1] This latest allegation was leveled by a Colorado woman, Deborah Ramirez, who attended Yale University with Kavanaugh in the 1980s and today works to help domestic violence survivors.

Earlier today, hundreds of Coloradans gathered in front of Sen. Cory Gardner’s office to demand the Kavanaugh confirmation hearings stop and Kavanaugh’s alleged victims have the opportunity to be heard. “The fact that we even have to be out here today to put pressure on Sen. Cory Gardner to speak out against Brett Kavanaugh shows that Sen. Gardner doesn’t respect women in his state or across the country,” said Fawn Bolak, Reproductive Rights Content Director for ProgressNow Colorado.

Action item #1 this week: call Sen. Cory Gardner at (202) 224-5941 and Sen. Michael Bennet (202) 224-5852 and tell them to immediately stop the confirmation hearings for Brett Kavanaugh while allegations of sexual misconduct and assault are investigated. There is simply too much at stake with a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court to rush past these serious allegations, and we support our Colorado neighbor standing up for justice.

Once that’s done, there’s much more work to be done to fight back for the week of September 24th:

Bennet & Gardner – Not One Dollar for ICE

Senators Bennet and Gardner say they don’t support the Trump Administration’s Family Separation policy, but they have been supporting family separation with their votes. Every time they support a budget that includes more money for immigration enforcement, they are giving ICE more money to deport more families, and they are supporting a rogue agency. We are encouraged to see that the the recent continuing resolution did not have new funding for ICE.
