What you can do to fight back this week (August 13)

  • by: ProgressNow Colorado

This weekend, Donald Trump’s scandal-plagued Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke showed up in Steamboat Springs to speak at a conservative conference.

Outside, over a thousand people were waiting to hold him accountable. [1]

When it comes to protecting our Western public lands, water, and clean air for future generations, the disaster of the Trump administration has been limited only by their incompetence. Everywhere across the West and across the nation where there are natural resources to be exploited, special interests are rushing to cash in while Trump and his band of goons remain in power. The threat posed by this dangerously irresponsible administration is urgent, but the people of Colorado stand at the ready to protect our environment from Trump’s onslaught.

Thanks for taking action whenever and wherever it’s needed. There’s much more to do. Here are some great ways to take action for the week of August 13:

One Colorado Call Night!

Join us at the One Colorado office to call supporters of LGBTQ equality. We will have snacks and drinks for you. If you have a have a laptop and/or phone, feel free to bring it along with you — otherwise we will have some available!

Where: One Colorado, 1490 Lafayette St, Ste 304, Denver
When: Tuesday, August 14 at 5:30pm

Warm Cookies of the Revolution: This Machine Has a Soul

Join Warm Cookies of the Revolution for the opening of THIS MACHINE HAS A SOUL, an art installation that explores creative responses to obstacles that residents face while navigating their home, their neighborhood, and their government. It’s weird. And fun. And means a lot to a lot of people….It includes Hot Wheels, a museum of repeated history, a resurrected 1953 Chevy Bel Air, a bus stop, paintings of humans, a closet of souls on video, many murals, free trees, and it is wild!

Where: 4335 Thompson Ct, Denver
When:Thursday, August 16 – Monday, August 20

Volunteer with One Colorado at the AIDS Walk Celebration of Life

Pull on a One Colorado t-shirt, sign up new supporters of LGBTQ equality, and join us at the AIDS Walk Celebration of Life Festival! This year, staff and volunteers will be asking attendees to sign a petition to ban the harmful practice of conversion therapy in our state. It’s important that LGBTQ Coloradans, their families, and allies come together to make sure young people are no longer subjected to this discredited practice.

Where: Cheesman Park, Denver
When: Saturday, August 18 at 8:00am

Cheers to our Public Lands: Hike & Happy Hour Series

Conservation Colorado is partnering with Western Slope Conservation Center, Western Colorado Alliance for Community Action, and Great Old Broads for Wilderness to bring you the Cheers to Public Lands hike and happy hour series for summer 2018! We’ve planned three hikes & happy hours throughout the summer, so come hang out in our beautiful backyard and talk about the future of the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre, and Gunnison national forests!

Where: Grand Junction
When: Saturday, August 18 at 8:00am

Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition: Citizenship Workshop | Taller de Ciudadanía

The Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition and Elevation Immigration Law will offer a citizenship workshop for legal permanent residents to earn citizenship.

Where: Dillon Community Church, 371 La Bonte St, Dillon
When: Saturday, August 18 at 10:00am

Volunteer with One Colorado at Pueblo Pride!

It is Pride Season! Pull on a One Colorado t-shirt, sign up new supporters of LGBTQ equality, and join in the fun this summer.

Where: Mineral Palace Park, Pueblo
When: Sunday, August 19 at 10:30am

Greywater Installation – Free One Day Course!

Join Avery Ellis of Colorado Greywater as he demonstrates the installation of a home greywater system! This system will utilize the lightly used water from the cabin sink and shower to water the surrounding gardens. A system which is applicable to many homes, and a great way to get an additional use out of water that has already made the trip to your home.

Where: Central Rocky Mountain Permaculture Institute, 2101 Cedar Dr, Basalt
When: Monday, August 20 at 9:00am

Thanks for your help making all of these events successful. We’ll see you next week with more ways to make a difference!
