  1. The middle class is shrinking in Colorado

Coloradans are under too much financial pressure to achieve a middle-class lifestyle, even with what are considered middle-class earnings, according to a study released this week.

The study, prepared by the University of Colorado Denver’s School of Public Affairs, also showed that the share of families classified as middle income — that is, earning between double and two-thirds the state’s median family income of $59,000 — declined between 2000 and 2016. The middle-class lifestyle remains accessible to dual-earner, highly-educated families and a challenge for almost everyone else.

    1. That definition of "middle class" startled me until I read it more closely. So, Colorado is losing families with income (adjusted for inflation, presumably) of $118,000 down to $40,000.

Two adults, working minimum wage jobs for 40 hours every week, would earn $42,432. So, pick your explanations —

      1. DINKY Budget:

        3600 Monthly
        600 Taxes
        1200 Housing
        1200 Health Insurance
        600 Food

Hmm, I think I see why they don't have any kids.

I guess you can always take a split shift at MacDonalds.

  2. WOTD "Judas Trump Iscariot".

Today: “I have great confidence in my intelligence people, but I will tell you that President Putin was extremely strong and powerful in his denial today,” Trump said.

November 2017: “He said he didn’t meddle. He said he didn’t meddle. I asked him again. You can only ask so many times,” Trump said.

July 2017: “President Trump said he’s heard Putin’s very clear statements that this is not true and that the Russian government didn’t interfere in the elections and that he accepts these statements,” Lavrov said, according to a translation by CNN. “That’s all.

  3. If anyone in Congress is paying attention our purchases of Russian crude oil are on the rise.  At 17 million barrels it’s a drop in our bucket but still a significant number in rubles. The entirety of our Russian purchases could be offset by 20 advanced biofuel facilities in rural America.

We have a lot of options that could make our rural areas great again – including broadening our definition of ‘energy producers’ to the many green energy products, both liquid and electrons, that can come from our rural communities.

In this case we can bring opportunities to the rural landscape while dishing out some penance to Moscow.

    1. With the former Secretary of State in mind, I'm surprised our imports from Russia didn't go up substantially more.

I guess seeing "only" a 25% rise is evidence of just how tough Trump is on the Russians.
