Weiser Wins Democratic AG Nomination, Watson Pulls Out GOP Treasurer Bid

By the time you went to bed last night, there were two big statewide races in Colorado that had yet to be settled. This morning, one of them is still undecided.

Phil Weiser appears to have emerged victorious in the race for Attorney General, capturing the Democratic nomination in a close race with state Rep. Joe Salazar.

In a three-way Republican race for State Treasurer, Brian Watson is clutching to a narrow lead over state Rep. Justin Everett, but the margin is close enough that we may not know a winner until all ballots are officially counted. Here’s how the numbers looked as of this morning, via 9News:

In Montrose County, ballots are being counted by hand because of a printing error of some sort, so we may not have a resolution in this race until later in the week.

Interesting Races further down the ballot:

Rep. Judy Reyher (HD47) (with her ugly twitter histories and mysterious vacancy appointment) lost her election bid.

Rep. Phil Covarrubias (HD56) (inspired by Tancredo) lost his primary.

But most notable: In the fight for Justin Everett's seat (HD22) Colin Larson edged out Frank Francone, who had received $12,000 in support from extremist Rocky Mountain Gun Owners. RMGO power is overblown!

  And a close race in HD43 (Highlands Ranch) Kevin Van Winkle's district. The Dem challenger, Barrett Rothe, actually pulled in slightly more votes. With a bit of support, that could be another House pickup opportunity!

Uh, Pols…. the AG race isn’t over yet. With a ~5000 vote margin and Montrose county still not counted, Less than .01 difference (5000 / 544,000 total AG votes), Salazar isn’t conceding. It could trigger an automatic recount .

Were the positions of the 2 candidates reversed, Pols would be trumpeting to Count every Vote!! As is, your headline declaring Weiser’s victory is premature.

It ain’t over until it’s over.

  Statistically speaking, it's all but over. Salazar would have to score a blow-out in Montrose; recounts rarely change more than a handful of votes these days. Like it or lump it, computers do a generally excellent job of tallying ballots here in Colorado.

A reported 8639 votes were cast in montrose. But that's in both parties. If half went to Democrats and every one — every one–went to salazar, then Phil Weiser's 5,000 plurality still wins easily.

You can't win, sore loser girl. Stop making an ass out of yourself.
