  1. It is an honor to open the day's commentary by reporting Trump still stinks.

    My God, he stinks.

    He even hates football.

And Manafort is going to jail.

Can stinky boy be far behind?

    Stay upwind, America.

    Help is on the way.

    1. Trump may only hate football because they wouldn't let him buy in (on the cheap) and his alternative league went bust. if they had let him in and let his team win all the time, I'm sure he'd like the game.

  2. Early reports indicate Democrats survived their goofy jungle primary and will have candidates in practically all of California's 53 districts.

This makes the chance of taking back the house much better.

Praise the lord and pass the impeachment resolution.

      1. If the charge to impeach is led by Republicans, it is a win-win for Dems. With the demise of their party looking imminent, those remaining Republicans might still have a chance to hold on to that power if they don't wait until the Trumplicans© have instituted a monarchy, or its modern equivalent. A "president for life" is an idea that appeals to the megalomaniac in the White House.

The remaining "Eisenhower" and "Reagan" Republicans must lead the charge and there by isolate the racist, nationalist, core of his followers. Whatever violence ensues ( I suspect there will be plenty) is on the hands of the people who voted for this traitor.

The ridiculous event staged at the White House yesterday should frighten every American citizen who gives a damn about democracy in the future of this nation.

Wrapped in a flag, carrying a bible…wasn't it?

        1. Another historical misquote that someone ought to have said, but didn’t quite. These come close:

          Via Snopes

From Gideon Planish: “I just wish people wouldn’t quote Lincoln or the Bible, or hang out the flag or the cross, to cover up something that belongs more to the bank-book and the three golden balls.”

          Or possibly this:
…in coverage of a speech by one James Waterman Wise Jr. in the 5 February 1936 edition of The Christian Century:

James Waterman Wise, Jr., in a recent address here before the liberal John Reed club said that Hearst and Coughlin are the two chief exponents of fascism in America. If fascism comes, he added, it will not be identified with any “shirt” movement, nor with an “insignia,” but it will probably be “wrapped up in the American flag and heralded as a plea for liberty and preservation of the constitution.”

  3. An interesting story from the Intercept about Ken Salazar, his ties to the oil and gas industry, and his support for candidates in races all over Colorado who have weak or vague positions on fracking and have opponents whose positions are, shall we say, "clearer."

While it talks about Polis' support for anti-fracking initiatives, it conveniently leaves out the part where he abandoned the project and its supporters in exchange for promises of air and rainbows from Hick & Co.

Colorado’s Democratic Party Kingmaker Is a Fracking Lawyer. What Could Go Wrong?

  4. Honey badger don't care.  But, he does owe the state $1,514.88.

Former Secretary of State Scott Gessler loses ethics fight in Colorado Supreme Court

In his appeal to the higher court, Gessler challenged the ethics commission's jurisdiction, claiming that under Colorado Constitution Amendment 41, approved by voters in 2006, the commission could only review "gifts, influence peddling, and standards of conduct and reporting requirements that expressly delegate enforcement" to the commission.

The state Supreme Court rejected that claim and upheld the commission's oversight on a related state law that says the "holding of public office or employment is a public trust."

Public trust is part of an ethical standard of conduct subject to commission review, the court ruled.

  5. Does CenturyLink hate small business? Or do they just not care?

Once again CenturyLink is doing its best to make it difficult to stay in business in Colorado. For months we've been signed up to get out lines ported. Everything is signed, we paid them (that might have been a mistake on our part) and…

For months we can't get anyone at CenturyLink to even pretend they're interested in scheduling the work.

I wish the legislature we hold public hearings on how CenturyLink treats local businesses. With an eye towards what they could do in legislation to either force them to operate effectively or to condemn their infrastructure to then buy it and turn it over to a company that is focused on doing their job.

Also, any suggestion on our best next step? File a complaint with the PUC? Sue them in court?

    1. I assume you're porting away from Centurylink?  If so, contact the other carrier if you haven't already.  They may or may not poke Centurylink for you.  You should also contact the PUC and the FCC, which has enforcement responsibility over porting.  First you might let Centurylink know that you're going to go through the agency complaints process if they can't give you a date certain for the port.

  6. I mean, if we don't support getting Democrats that can "win in these races," (i.e. conservatives) how will we ever get power back?

    Manchin goes full MAGA

The West Virginia senator doesn’t put it quite that way. But more than any other Democrat in Congress, he's positioned himself as a vocal Trump ally. In fact, the senator, up for reelection in a state Trump won by more than 40 points, told POLITICO he isn’t ruling out endorsing Trump for reelection in 2020 — a position practically unheard of for a politician with a “D” next to his name.

“I’m open to supporting the person who I think is best for my country and my state,” Manchin said this week from the driver’s seat of his Grand Cherokee, insisting he’s game to work with any president of either party. “If his policies are best, I’ll be right there.”

    #Resist

    1. If we can control the Senate, we can stop the flood of fascists into our courts.   You may prefer an uberleftie who would plunge to total defeat in West Va.  I'll settle for a conservadem who makes Chuck Shumer majority leader.

            1. He's certainly chosen a different one.  We agree on that.

At some point, though, I think Democrats are going to have to decide what it means to be a “Democrat.” I’m not convinced that the current model, which appears to be “I’m affiliated with the Democratic Party” is going to cut it.

    1. Without knowing who is polling, how it was done, and who they were asking, the top-line numbers don't mean a great deal.

One reason I'm skeptical — 90% of the sample (assuming the numbers are right) had a candidate preference, leaving only 10% for "don't know" ???
