What you can do to fight back this week (May 29)

  • by: ProgressNow Colorado

Colorado’s economy is booming, but not everyone is sharing in the good times.

With the cost of living in Colorado soaring, thousands of working families are forced every year to turn to unscrupulous “payday lenders” who charge incredibly high interest rates on small loans. Because of the high cost of borrowing from payday lenders, borrowers frequently end up in a cycle of repeated borrowing they can’t escape—enriching predatory lenders at the expense of those who can least afford it.

Colorado has tried several times to reform payday lending, but it hasn’t done enough for working families. So this year we’re trying a different approach. Tomorrow morning, join ProgressNow Colorado, Operation HOPE, the Bell Policy Center, Denver community and faith leaders, and Coloradans just like you as this coalition launches a ballot initiative campaign to cap payday loan interest rates at 36%.

What: Rally to Launch Campaign to Stop Predatory Loans

Taboo Town Hall is a 2018 legislative session recap and an candid conversation around sex, race, money, drugs, guns, and gays — the critical (sometimes taboo) issues that impact our community. “Naming things, breaking through taboos and denial is the most dangerous, terrifying, and crucial work. This has to happen in spite of political climates or coercions, in spite of careers being won or lost, in spite of the fear of being criticized, outcast, or disliked. I believe freedom begins with naming things. Humanity is preserved by it.”
