Despite all the new folks coming into the legislature, there are still experienced folks like Joel Judd, who is running for the Senate. Here’s an article he posted on HuffPostDenver talking about one of his heroes, a true leader of Denver and the Rockies, Federico Pena:

I joined the race because the district and the state face huge challenges. The key issues aren’t a mystery, the district has been hard hit by the recession and foreclosures, our schools graduate roughly 50% of students, hundreds of thousands of Coloradans are without health care and of course we a state budget in crisis.
The question will be who can best provide the leadership within the community and at the legislature to bring together those who live in the district: nonprofit organizations, the business community, the school district, government agencies, legislators and the governor, to solve these problems.
I know the legislative process, I’ve worked to engage citizens in our community and in our government. I currently work with nonprofits and business to make clean energy and the jobs that come with it a reality in Colorado.
I’m in because I can provide the leadership the people of HD 7 and the people of Colorado need on these critical issues.
