I Don't Belong to Any Organized Political Party -- I'm a Democrat!

Yesterday morning, the Obama for America Let’s Get It Done Health Insurance Reform Now Bus Tour Stop (OFALGIDHIRNBTS) was scheduled for the Tivoli Commons at Auraria Campus. Then, with little notice, at about 6:00 last night, the location changed to North High School.

And now this morning in the Denver Post, we find that it was “nearly canceled” at Auraria but apparently it’s not.

A pro-health care reform rally scheduled for today on the Auraria campus was nearly canceled because a student group could not afford security for the event.

About 800 people have RSVP’d for the 5 p.m. rally at the Tivoli Commons put on by local student groups and the national Organizing for America.

Campus spokesman Blaine Nickeson said the issues were about “administration and security.”

“The group that had originally planned to sponsor pulled it when they found out how much security was going to cost,” he said. “The national organizing group has agreed to pay for the security.”

Would the real OFALGIDHIRNBTS please raise your hand?

  1. around 7:30 last night from a recorded message telling me this would be at North High. What happened to the seamless, smoothly run campaign? This is a far cry from last year’s DNC.

  2. You’re going to have changes like this with any effort.

Speaking of health care, it was amazing to see how over 100 folks were riveted by the detailed presentation of Colo. Consumer Health Initiative at Rep. Joel Judd’s community party on Wednesday.  People obviously aren’t getting information from the media, which is focussing on whatever Fox News is focussing on.  Seems like people had a good time with the music & socializing too.  There were no picketers or teabaggers outside either–aww shux.

    1. I agree with you, Paul. But the larger question to me is, what direct benefit does this have on the national scale? Whether this takes place or not, do you really think these rallies influence anyone?

  3. but they are doing a very good job of keeping everyone posted on changes.  I’ve received calls and e-mails galore so well forewarned.  Must have a ton of volunteers working on communications. That in itself is pretty encouraging in terms of anticipated turn out. Of course if there are three teabaggers screaming on the scene, they’ll get all the media coverage.

  4. just this morning.

What this represents is poor organizing.  How can you plan an event like this and NOT know all there is to know about COSTS before you start inviting people to it?

I’ll tell you how.  By NOT KNOWING, which is usually caused by not inquiring, or not communicating, or some such basic failure.

And that points to poor organizing.

A few degrees of disrespect for such poor organizing can be forgiven over the fact that there was short notice involved — I mean, the bus tour and this stop have only been a week or two in the making.

But still, the COST of holding the event at Auraria should have been discussed and FULLY understood at the outset.

So, not every degree can be forgiven.
