“Obama could shut it down. There has to be some reason he doesn’t want people to see that birth certificate. Maybe it’s dual citizenship, who knows.”

  1. I’ll be running my ass off as the “junior” member of the National Convention Committee. One major success is stocking our hospitality Suite using the ABC formula – Beer and snacks from the Wynkoop, and Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey as the strong liquor of choice.

That, and Chris Vanderveen of 9News, will be presented an award for his coverage of veterans issues. His stories on Matt Kyle, Service Dogs and the Ft Carson Casualty Assistance Wives won him the award.

On another note, The Worst Senator In The World (when it comes to vets) John McCain will be in Denver for the next few days. He’ll do the convention speech on Sat or Sunday, and immediately run out before anyone can ask him why his DAV legislative rating is SO SO BAD…

  2. It is my understanding that Sen. Byrd is not going to vote for any sort of healthcare reform.  As well, he is infirm and has not been in DC for months.  Anyone know anything about this?  If true, then the 60 seat filibuster-proof majority is off the table.

        1. Robert Byrd D-WV: is listed on TPM as “very old and very sick.”

According to bloggers at West Virginia Blue he has stated his opposition to using the Byrd rule to deny reconciliation.

The dude is 91!  Must be tough as hickory to be in the pressure-cooker of the Senate for five decades!

          Wish him well…

As for Kennedy, the irony that he would not get to vote on the issue he has worked the longest and hardest on…

          1. What evidence do you have that he’s opposed to health care reform?

BTW, my current theory about you is that you’re Sybil and have decided to merge all the various accounts and personalities into one conveniently baffling persona.

            1. …he’s just opposed to using reconciliation to get there.  He’s a big stickler for “prolonged debate” and other traditions of the Senate.

In the late ’70s when they changed to the 3/5 rule to invoke cloture (remember, it used to be 2/3 of the members who were present), he got them to add that it had to be 3/5 of the membership of the full Senate.

    1. But as far as I know, the part about him being infirm and out of DC for months is true.

Too, Kennedy is making noises that sound like he’s not doing well enough to be around for much longer.  He missed his sister’s funeral, which gives you some indication of his health.

Without one or possibly both of these votes, anything coming out of the Senate may need to go through reconciliation – unless they can get some of the moderate Republicans to vote yes on cloture…  Again, once it’s out of the Senate and on the conference committee table, it can be re-strengthened and returned to the Senate floor for a simple majority vote.

  3. Penry’s personal campaign publicist doing his bidding once again, Gary Harmon seems to believe that just parroting someone else’s work without critical analysis is what passes as journalism nowadays.

“That and 50 cents will buy you a cup of coffee.” -Josh Penry  (but not a copy of The Daily Sentinel)

Guess I’d better check Penry’s campaign finance reports to see if Harmon’s name appears anywhere. Oh, and maybe Penry should check with Michelle Malkin to see if she took his BBQ grill for her next pig roast/Nazi sign rally.

  4. I personally don’t think it’ll hold. There’s too many short and long term structural problems in this economy, perhaps the most important being energy supply problems.
