Mayor Tom Barrett of Milwaukee spoke with reporters today about his intervening in a domestic violence situation during the state fair last Saturday:

He stepped into the situation when he heard a young woman was screaming to call 911; apparently she was being assaulted by the father of their baby, who was intoxicated. He intervened on behalf of a stranger, and he got beaten pretty badly.
That was incredibly courageous. Now that is my kind of mayor. I hope the mother and her baby are OK as well.

Too many would have called 911 and not otherwise get involved or just turned the other way. He got between the attacker and his victims in order to protect the the woman and her granddaughter. Milwaukee has a great mayor, I hope he heals quickly and well.
