Why do GOP office holders hang out with racist, misogynistic, xenophobic Tom Ready?

(Promoted by Colorado Pols) I see a lot of bad stuff in the #FeverSwamps™, but I am continually shocked by the depravity of a Republican activist and fundraiser named Tom Ready. Each year, Tom Ready holds a “Steak Fry” that benefits Republicans under his “Let’s Win” PAC. Each year, some of the biggest names in […]

Stand By Your Man: Tom Ready’s Domestic Violence Known to GOP since 1991

(Yeesh – Promoted by Colorado Pols) Most of Colorado now knows about Tom Ready, the Pueblo County Commissioner candidate who promoted the idea that the Sandy Hook school massacre was just a "hoax" perpetuated by people who want more gun laws. The Pueblo County Republican Party has been deafeningly silent about Tom Ready's extreme views, […]

Pueblo Chieftain Defends Tom Ready, Shoots Messenger

UPDATE: The calls for Republicans who attended Tom Ready's fundraiser last month to disown him continue: A Colorado independent nonprofit group whose mission is to hold Republican nominee for Governor Bob Beauprez accountable called on Beauprez to renounce his appearance with a Sandy Hook denier who questioned whether the event really took place. "We call […]

Started at the Bottom, Digging Deeper

The 2022 U.S. Senate race in Colorado got a bit more interesting last week, with two new Republican candidates joining the field: Ft. Collins developer Gino Campana and State Rep. Ron Hanks (R-Penrose). There are now six Republicans running for the chance to lose to incumbent Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet next November. If this week […]

Jeffco Elections Division Opens New Office Tomorrow

No longer will the Jefferson County Clerk’s Elections Division be tucked away at the far end of a long hallway on the Taj Mahal’s second floor. Instead, the ballot counters and administrative staff will tomorrow be opening the doors of their new digs a few blocks away at the Laramie building.

That means it’s time to update your rolodexes! From the Jefferson County Clerk and Recorder:

(Golden) – The Elections Division of the Jefferson County Clerk and Recorder will be moving to a new location beginning Feb. 27, 2012.  The office will move from its current location on the second floor of the Administration and Courts Building to the Laramie Building on the Jefferson County government campus in Golden. The new Elections Division address is 3500 Illinois Street, Suite 1100, Golden 80401.

“This move will allow us to consolidate and improve our processes by having all election-related activities under the same roof,” said County Clerk and Recorder Pam Anderson. “The Elections Warehouse, Mail Ballot Processing Center and Ballot Counting Room are already located in the Laramie Building, so it will be nice to have our elections administrative staff headquartered there as well,” she added.

It certainly will be “nice” to have everything in one building, although Anderson (or whoever writes the press releases in the clerk’s office) probably should’ve included thrown in a few words about increased efficiency or transparency for good measure. Of course this move is nice – if it wasn’t “nice” or “good,” why would you send out a press release about it?

If you’re going to include quotes in a press release, you ostensibly want those quotes to be tossed into a newspaper article. But the fact that something’s “nice” isn’t newsworthy, so why not say something a little more worthwhile? Anderson should’ve either crafted a better quote or included no quote at all and plainly released the information on the move.

Regardless, the next time you walk into the Taj Mahal intent on paying the elections division a visit, hop back in your car and drive two blocks down the road to the new office in the Laramie building.  It’ll be real “nice.”

Who Stands Up For “Underrepresented” Men? Scott Bottoms, Baby!

Yesterday was the annual Latino/a Advocacy Day at the Colorado State Capitol, an annual event that like so many other routine functions at the Capitol didn’t result in much controversy in the “before times”–that sometimes-mythologized halcyon period before either the global pandemic or Donald Trump where the discourse under the Dome was somewhat less consistently […]

Tom Emmer is the New Best of the Worst in Speaker Race

UPDATE #7: Hello, “Square One.” Emmer already dropped out of the running to become House Speaker. Via The Washington Post: Rep. Tom Emmer (R-Minn.), the House majority whip, and the third Republican speaker pick since the ouster of Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), had been elected as the GOP nominee on an internal ballot earlier Tuesday. However, […]

At Least Scott Bottoms is Probably Not Your Legislator

One of our longest running features at Colorado Pols is something we call, “At Least They’re Not Your Legislator,” where we detail a strange story that is normally about a politician from somewhere outside of Colorado. Sometimes, unfortunately, this feature applies to weirdos in our own state. State Rep. Scott “There is No” Bottoms, a […]

Scott Bottoms and the Tax Cut Zombies

One of the more entertaining and enlightening moments of the 2022 election cycle in Colorado took place in September during a gubernatorial candidate forum hosted by Colorado Concern. Longtime Denver Post publisher Dean Singleton was the moderator of the event; he tried really, really hard to understand how Republican Heidi Ganahl planned to eliminate the […]

Tom Sullivan, Whose Son Died in the Aurora Theater Massacre, Faces a Republican Who Has a Top Rating From the NRA

(In the name of all that’s good and decent — Promoted by Colorado Pols) In his race for the state Senate, Tom Sullivan, who first ran for the state legislature after his son was killed in the Aurora Theater massacre and has made gun safety a top priority ever since, faces a Republican opponent, Tom […]
