Local TV coverage of Schultheis/Renfroe outrages

9NEWS, from last night's broadcast:

"The comments make me sad," President Pro Tem Sen. Betty Boyd (D-Lakewood) said. "They were very hurtful to a lot of people, particularly when you talk about a woman who might be infected with HIV to give birth to a child who would have AIDS when they were born. That was, I thought, appalling."

The Schultheis firestorm came just two days after Sen. Scott Renfroe (R-Greeley) made a comment that some have interpreted as comparing homosexuality to murder during a debate over a bill to extend state health care benefits to the partners of gay and lesbian state employees.

Alan :: Local TV coverage of Schultheis/Renfroe outrages
Channel 7:

On Monday, Sen. Scott Renfroe, R-Greeley, created a stir by quoting Bible verses that condemned homosexuality. He made his comments during a debate over extending health insurance benefits to the partners of gay and lesbian state workers, a measure sponsored by Veiga.

Penry said many Coloradans support the traditional view of marriage and defended the right of lawmakers to express their strongly held views.

Debate on the health benefits bill also rankled some Republicans. They objected to Senate Majority Leader Brandon Shaffer's comments suggesting that supporting the bill was the more "enlightened" stance.

Murder = wearing a cotton/poly t-shirt
to Sen Renroe.

Wearing a cotton/poly shirt is worse than throwing stones at someone caught cheating (such as La-Sen. Dave Vitter) until they are dead, as the former is a sin whereas the latter is proscribed by God for punishment of adulterers.

Going to the store on Saturday (yeah, Renfrow, the Sabbath is the sixth day, look it up)...is a sin.

Eating a bacon-cheesburger or a lobster tail is a sin, equal to murder in the eyes of Sen. Renfroe.

And ensuring that the 'sins' of the mother are visited on the child...that's just downright 'Old Testament' and nothing but 100% classy, make that guy the voice of the new GOP.

Of course...
...in the Colorado State Senate, eating a Bacon-cheeseburger would be murder.  And cannibalism.  http://www.state.co.us/gov_dir...

Forget the t-shirt
His suit isn't of a single thread. That's a Rayon blend I'd wager. Nothing wrong with that, of course. Except you should be put to deth for it and you'll surely go to Hell. But from a comfort perspective, I love Rayon. So at least he can be stoned to death in a comfortable suit.

"How much for your women?"

Since Scott Renfroe is such a God-fearing man, does this mean he's three daughters are on the market? And why isn't he up front arguing that Section 26 of the Colorado Constitution (prohibiting slavery) is against God's Law? All sin is equal!

I always forget Pee Wee Herman
makes a cameo in that. Good stuff.

"Look, I think they're *Iranians*!"
Pee Wee cameos in Cheech & Chong's Next Movie from the same year (1980) as The Blues Brothers movie.

Delivering a line that still resonates in politics: "I know you are, but what am I?!"

Oh Lord.
I heard this on KUNC this a.m. Schultheis's comments are generating quite a bit of press.

Appalling is an apt description.

As well as the defense
Why not just apologize for an outrageous comment? It's truly insulting that they can say these things without fear of reprimand from their party, and then continue to defend their horrible statements.

Yes. Good point.
The defense is nearly as bad as the original statement.

Fiscal v. Social
Marostica encountered the rage of the fiscal conservatives and was taken to the woodshed for breaking from "no". He was not representing his base.

Renfroe and Schulteis attacked from the social conservative side and are using acceptable language and therefore representing their base.

This movie has been rated PG-13 for sci-fi violence and destruction

Why not?
Because this is what a significant cross-section of the GOP believes. They don't understand what's wrong with this, although this may teach them to pay lip service in the future.

What are you talking about?...I don't get it." - bjwilson83

Aristotle Nailed it.
Besides the distinction between red states and blue states, there is also a set of states west of the Delaware and east of the Sierras with large populations of ignorant, unsophisticated hicks. Not "conservatives" in any philosophical sense; just dead-heads whose idea of a "trip abroad" is crossing into the next county and for whom thinking is...well, is unthinkable. This is the audience Limbaugh caters to, and it's the audience to whom and for whom Renfroe and Schulteis are speaking. Clear case of government of the people, by the people, for the people, sad to say. Exasperation and chi-chi jokes about cheap XXL Rayon suits from Sears are fodder for their particular brand of Ignorance Is Next to Godliness. Helps explain why Republicans consistently oppose spending $$$ on edukashun.

Schultheis made Olbermann's worst persons tonight
Came in first as I recall and was quoted verbatim.  Nothing ambigous or out of context about what he said or his even worse clarification.

[ Parent ]
Schultheis came in second
Sean Hannity's poll about the best way to violently overthrow the U.S. government came in worst.

[ Parent ]
Oh Sweet!!
I had no idea. I don't get MSNBC.

Thanks for the heads up, BlueCat.

when I listen to the actual quotes,
.
they aren't saying what their critics here are saying.

This kind of putting-words-in-the-mouths-of-opponents belongs on Kos or Square State, not here.
.

So what are they saying, Barron?
If they didn't say what they said? Jesus.

[ Parent ]
Schultheis put even more incredibly
cruel and stupid words in his own mouth when given a chance to clarify. Sorry Barron.  You must be holding your hands over your ears and singing lalalala.
