Another Plea For GOP To Stop Alienating Hispanics

by: Colorado Pols

Good advice every time they hear it--too bad they never seem to listen, as the Pueblo Chieftain reports:

The Republican Party's message has been all wrong, according to GOP member Nelson Balido.

"We haven't been doing a good job telling our story," Balido said in an interview before his speech Saturday night at the annual Lincoln Day Dinner at the Pueblo Convention Center.

Balido told the local GOP that the party needs to rebuild itself, strategy and that it needs a more consistent dialogue with voters - especially Hispanics.

"Ronald Reagan said something in the '80s: 'Hispanics are more Republican, and they just don't know it.' And you know what, they still don't know it," the 38-year-old San Antonio resident said...

Tom "Send 'Em Back" Tancredo agrees, this whole "lack of consistency" in...GOP messaging...to Hispanics is...a real problem...sorry. We just can't keep going here with a straight face. But yeah, the place to start rebuilding a relationship with the increasingly pivotal Hispanic voting bloc is probably to stop making them feel like a black guy at a cross burning.

Have you met Dave Schultheis? Not exaggerating this problem, folks.

Yet R's
keep nominating and handing high profile positions to those most fervent anti-Hispanic pols.  Even when moderate R's make attempts to reach out to the Hispanic community they are attacked by the extremists as Josh Penry did to Gov. Owens during Colorado's immigration reform.  At least Penry's caterwauling shit blizzard ended in Owens slapping him down and exposing his idiocy. R's should be nurturing more moderate R's who are not afraid of exposing the extremist who are destroying the Republican Party.  Until they do, expect more R losses.

caterwauling shit blizzard...
may be the single greatest phrase ever uttered on pols.  :)

then again,
.
maybe there's an advantage down the line for the GOP,
if they decline to treat the "Hispanic Vote" as one uniform bunch.

The GOP, for all their faults, recognizes that legal Hispanics, like those whose family has lived within what's now the USA for 400 years,
have some different interests and opinions from those who've emigrated contrary to provisions of law.
.

Umm Barron
There are "legal" Hispanics who have been in the U.S. a lot less than 400 years.

When I use lots of words, they always form an analysis (and, while producing high volume, also produce high information-density).

I think you missed " like those "
An example.

Hispanic voters, i.e., citizens, don't vote a whole lot differently than Democrats generally. Hispanic voters are not a unique block, actually.

Now, Hispanic voices are another story.

As long as the GOP
uses thinly disguised bigotry as a campaign tool, whether it's pointing to an Obama as too "other", using "Muslim" as an accusation or not so subtly working on fears that "real" American culture is in danger of being over-run by Mexicans, it doesn't really matter that Hispanics don't represent a single block. The GOP does such a good job of insulting so many of them in all of their diversity, along with so many other ethnic and religious minorities.

Since minorities will collectively out-number white guys going forward, this doesn't seem like a great tactic unless the GOP is aiming to become nothing but a quaint vestige of a dying past. Works for me.

Everything you said is true.
But it doesn't negate my observation.   It's an add on.

No, I didn't miss "like those"
The implication was that those are the only Hispanics the GOP recognizes.  And anyone not meeting the criteria is illegal.
