A few Backers named on Bruce Web site say endorsement from 2004

Douglas Bruce's Web site featured an impressive list of endorsements for his legislative primary race, including U.S. Sen. Wayne Allard, Secretary of State Mike Coffman and Republican National Committeeman Mark Hillman.

There was just one problem: None of them actually had given the Colorado Springs Republican representative their backing for the contest.

NEWSMAN :: Some Backers on Bruce Web Site since 2004
So, about 10 minutes after being asked about the inconsistency by the Rocky Mountain News on Monday, Bruce had his webmaster remove a notation that they were supporting him in the House District 15 tussle.

But the move did not come before his opponent, as well as a spokesman for one of the listed endorsers, questioned Bruce's integrity.

"If you're willing to not be honest about who's endorsing you in a race, then maybe that shows your character for future action," said Mark Waller, Bruce's primary challenger.

Added Rich Coolidge, spokesman for Coffman: "It's not right for Douglas Bruce to hold out that this endorsement reflects his candidacy for the House when it doesn't...That's clearly deceptive."

All 24 individuals listed as backing Bruce at www.douglasbruce.com have done so, but 15 gave their backing when he ran for El Paso County commissioner in 2004, according to links to the endorsements on the site. Still, the site had them all listed under the bullet point: "Elected officials and other leaders supporting Douglas Bruce for State Representative in House District 15."

When asked about the wording, Bruce said it had been changed by an overzealous webmaster and that he had no intention to deceive. Within 10 minutes, the heading over the list of endorsers read: "Elected officials and others who have supported or praised Douglas Bruce during his years of his public service."

Most of those listed incorrectly reacted without concern. An Allard spokesman characterized it as "not a big deal," and Hillman said he figured it was just a miscommunication.

Former state Rep. Mark Cloer, who is now a lobbyist, said that while he has no plans to issue any primary endorsements this year, he still backs Bruce's character overall.

"Most people that endorse (will) endorse based on the person and the credibility of the person," Cloer said. "He's forthright. He's definitely opinionated. And he keeps things hopping, whether legislatively or at the commissioner level."

"A few Backers" ?
Another, more accurate way to phrase it would be "Most of the Backers Named on Bruce Web Site Say Endorsement from 2004," since 15 of 24 listed endorsements were gathered for his bid for commissioner, not his primary, as Bruce claimed before the reporter called. Several others endorsed his appointment to the House seat last fall but didn't take a stand on the primary.

Great to see the "overzealous" underling getting the blame, as is common when elected officials get caught fudging the truth:

... Bruce said it had been changed by an overzealous webmaster and that he had no intention to deceive.

Just like a regular politician.

time to hit the "Rogue Staffer" panic button !

Ok here is my original headline
A few Backers named on Bruce Web site say endorsement from 2004

Now why did I say "a few"

The key is "say" endorsement is from 2004.

Allard Coffman and Hillman are quoted as "saying", and not even all of the 3 listed. Staffers "said" for some of them.

So out of 24, that's a few.

Anyone who knows Doug knows he is definitely NOT his own webmaster.

But YES, it is what it is, and I report the news that interests me, good, bad or indifferent.

It probably was just an innocnet mistake just as DB says it was, but since when does that matter when the subject is the man some Love to Hate.

Bruce did get a "save" from his fellow Republicans.

Some men see things as they are, and ask why! ...I dream things that could be and ask,  Why Not !

so what
the thing is they did give it in 2004....that's bad enough

Fuzzy Math
15 = a few?

63% of the total endorsements = a few?

Now the headline seems
to have changed, but, to be fair, Newsman might have meant the old endorsements are only a few of the ultimate number of supporters Bruce has for the primary election.

But no one ever claimed those El Paso County Republicans were good at math.

First
The Shafroth post and now this, it must be "make-believe" day.

Once I figure out how that differs from every other day in politics I'll let y'all know.

Mark Cloer....
mentioned within.

Didn't he resign from the house for the most useful of reasons, "personal?"  I guess the opportunity to make more money is. Good choice for a lobbyist; very funny and personable (even if his positions mostly were uber-right.)

"Collective fear stimulates herd instinct and tends to produce ferocity toward those who are not regarded as members of the herd." -Bertrand Russell

Family first
Mark Cloer has not publicized the specifics of why he chose to leave the legislature and become a lobbyist, so I will respect his privacy and not go into detail.

Just suffice it to say his family suddenly had needs that exceeded a $30K part-time job. He put his family before his own political ambition. I applaud him for that.

Democrats Unite! After all, it's only the future at stake.

LOL!
Pretty much what I think, but your satire exceeded my abilities!

Um, I was not being satirical.
I was being as serious as a childhood illness.

Typical Doug
Nothing is ever his fault, always someone else's.

He was forced to kick the photographer.

He asked for more per diem because someone told him he worked more days then he actually did.

Now 63% of his endorsements on his website aren't really for this race because of an "overzealous webmaster".

I'm glad he fixed the problem but nothing ever seems to be this man's fault.

Thanks for posting this NEWSMAN

Kudos to NEWSMAN
Doug is his guy but he did report what occured.

Exactly
Newsman certainly has some stones!

Rep Stella Garza Hicks
had Doug take her name off before the session was over. Said she supported him for the vacancy committee, not the primary. This was the same day that Bruce made the " illiterate peasants" remark.

Garza Hicks also put her family before politics She decided not to run so she could spend time with her mother in Texas. (Her mother passed away earlier this month)
