Senate Online Debate - Schaffer accepts!

by: DavidThi808

From Vicki Blanton in Bob Schaffer's campaign:

I wanted to let you know that Congressman Schaffer would be interested in participating in an online debate with Congressman Udall.  As we move closer to June and July, please let me know the potential dates of the debate. We're very flexible and willing to work with you to find a date and time that works for all involved parties.

From Mark Udall's campaign I have a maybe...

Two things jump out at me about this.

First off, all of you us (I've been a big offender) that have been zinging Schaffer for not saying or doing anything - he's agreed to this before Udall.

Second, Schaffer/Wadhams have clearly decided it's time to start campaigning. And clearly plan on going public by June/July at the latest.

It'll be nice to actually have the campaigns start.

Poll
When should we have the debate?
Early June
Late June
Early July
Late July
After the August primary

Wow
I was skeptical about Schaffer accepting.  But I did note the word WOULD from her response !

Jesus
Schaffer BEFORE Udall?

Didn't expect that.

(If you ever want to online interview Sen. Gravel, he's got nothing better to do.)

great job, i can't believe schaffer is first to agree

Nice job!
You're a pioneer!

On a side note, new Rasmussen Reports poll have Udall up by three.  That's a net four point gain for Udall, whom previous polls had Schaffer ahead by one

you can see his strategy of taking no position on any controversial issue is really paying off
or maybe the bump Udall got in the Rasmussen poll is a result of Schaffer hiring Wadhams

You call that a confirmation?
"as we move closer to June and July, please let me know the potential dates" sounds like a "maybe" to me.

I call it a yes because of...
We're very flexible and willing to work with you to find a date and time that works for all involved parties.

I read that as a yes.

My recommendations in the 2010 primary?

[ Parent ]
I read that as a definite maybe
The easy out for Schaffer will be to declare that there is no time or date that works.

A "yes" is "we're confirmed for Saturday August 16th at 2:00 p.m. for one hour, we agree to the rules and format as written, and to these moderators."

This is not a race for Boulder County Sanitation Commissioner. Get serious.

As to the poll here
I voted early June because I think it would be nice to hear from them before we get into the heat of the election cycle, when we can really here them speak to the issues.

Plus an early debate gives us something to compare with the final product that rolls around in November.

What's an "online debate"?
Do we get to see back and forth furious text-messaging? Yawn.

Maybe they go after each others' throats
via the internets tubes.  Nice.
