"Tancredo to Pope, Over"

"Roger that. Pope here."

Okay, maybe that's not how the conversation went, and there really wasn't a conversation anyway, but Rep. Tom Tancredo has advised Pope Benedict XVI not to apologize for his statements last week that said, in a nutshell, that Islam was a religion of violence. Tancredo has since written a letter to the Pope encouraging him not to apologize for those statements (the Pope had already apologized).

As Square State reports

In a letter that he posted in a .pdf file on the US House website, Rep. Tancredo (CO-666) quotes passages from the Koran to show that the religion of Islam ties its followers to a path of evil and violence.

He confides in Benedict XVI that, "Like you, I believe any reformation of the Islamic faith is highly unlikely..."

Poor Tancredo. It looks like that Ambassadorship job to Iran is probably out of the question now.

Whew - what a relief !
It must be comforting to the Pope that Tancredo agrees with him.

" And there are no Christian terrorists."

The Beej, circa 8/26/2010

I really do want to post
I really do. But this is just too easy, and attacking another persons holy book and citing scripture that puts it in a bad light is childish. I admit that I have done it, "but I am trying Ringo, I am trying real hard."

maybe he's making a bid for saint hood
Maybe Tancredo is not satisfied with being a mere U.S. Rep, or U.S. Senator, or U.S. President.  He's got bigger ambitions.
Sucking up to the Pope is, of course, the first step in any successful campaign for sainthood.  Imagine, some day devote Catholics (of European ancestry only, of course) will get down on their knees and pray to St. Thomas of Littleton, the patron saint of xenophobes.

Tancredo's love letters
Has Tom Tancredo ever written a PRIVATE letter to anyone?

Gee, I'm beginning to have a sneaking suspicion that the true purpose of his letters - to the National Park Service expressing concern about the "crescent" shape of the United 93 memorial, to the Denver Public Libary about their Spanish-language comic books, to Immigration about that poor 14-year-old kid Tancredo wanted deported, and now (as an ex-Catholic, no less) to the Pope - isn't so much to get anything DONE as to get his name in the papers!

Say it ain't so, Tom! I'm beginning to think your motives aren't pure.

All Tom seems to do is sit in his Barcalounger in his illegal-immigrant-built rumpus room and dictate incendiary letters on this and that, always making sure to CC the press. (Oh, and writing his magnum opus on immigration on the taxpayer's dime as well.)
