  1. not only in the MSM but in the academic community as well.

This arcane but verifiably true historical nugget Robertson has unearthed is giving historians and Latin American scholars a fit as they pore over every chapter, nay every sentence of ” The Senile Crackers Guide to Hatian History”.

  2. I’m no historian, but my first thought is that this was some absurd urban legend made up centuries ago by the French to feel better about getting ousted from Haiti.

    1. .

I understand that Toussaint L’ouverture was vilified for defeating the French, Spanish and British Armies in his struggle to end slavery.  These three greatest powers of the time, along with the young USA, feared that he might spread the poison of freedom for blacks and mulattos to the rest of the colonies, and the south of the US, and thus destroy the global economy, which slave owners were certain would collapse without slavery.

Just guessing, but I believe this is where the stuff about a “pact with the devil” came from.  Pat is right about this being in the historical record; but I think he failed to consider the charges in context.  50 years from now, historical records will include allegations, for example, that President O was born in Kenya.  Context is pretty important when trying to understand such allegations.

Toussaint ignored the first slave uprisings, being a free man himself, and already in his 50’s.  But they spread widely and were hard to keep ignoring.  He used his position to make himself into something of a negotiator between multiple factions on multiple sides.  When he learned that the French Assembly had declared the equality of all men back in Paris in ?1794?, he embraced his French citizenship and mobilized the revolting slaves on the side of Catholic France, and eschewed Voudou for Catholicism.  Along the way, he turned on the French, then the Spaniards, then the Brits, whenever they abandoned the principle of freedom for slaves.  Finally, back on the side of the French, and victorious, Napoleon declared him the French viceroy or something.  But Napoleon didn’t trust him, and a couple weeks later had him detained as an enemy combatant and caused his rendition back to Paris, where he died in captivity.  Even the young US Government sold him out.

Me, I’m guessing that a lot of the “bad luck” that has befallen Haiti was not luck at all, but payback for being uppity.

And all this happened just 200 km from the Bahia Guantanamo in Cuba.

      Or so I’ve read.

  3. Blast from the past (or .. the more things change the more they stay the same)

Some of you may recognize that one of the participants in this first interview is a current sitting US Senator.

Robertson is one individual from an entire species of (as LB so accurately put it) f*&king a**holes. I’m not sure where this species fits in among our primate relatives. Presumably, our closest common relative lived something less than 3.1 billion years ago.

        1. <img src=”[enter the url here]”>

To get the url, go to the image online (wherever it sits), and [if using a PC] right-click/Copy image location. Then paste that into the [enter the url here] (and get rid of the brackets).

Also, it looks like there are a couple of things wrong with what you tried:

          1. there’s a space between ” and http, and another at the end before the closing quote- delete those spaces.

          2. After .net, I bet there should be a slash, not a dash. Might be true elsewhere?

          3. Is there a space between the < and “img”? If so, delete it.

            1. If only my mother had a computer…I’d be forwarding it to her. She literally quoted Robertson’s statement to my sister yesterday. What great cover Robertson has provided millions of right wing Christians to avoid assisting our neighbors to the south.

                1. Little known fact here–I grew up in a household that listened to the 700 Club daily. (And you wonder what happened to make me a liberal…) My mom still listens to him but has the good sense not to tell me about it because she knows I’d end up blasting her. He’s just a disgusting old man. I don’t know any Christian that thinks or behaves the way he does. He’s an embarrassment to society and has no right to claim to be a Christian.

                  1. How exactly do you summon him ? Is there some sort of incantation ?

How are you sure its the devil, and not some charlatan imitating the devil ?

do you have any recourse if he decides to screw you on the deal?

Are deals with the devil automatically based on some sort of common law system, or some other code of laws ?

What if the French made the same deal with the devil in order to keep control of Haiti ?

If Pat Robertson knew about it, but obviously wasn’t alive at the time, he must have read about it somewhere.  How is the deal entered into the public record ?

Can Pat represent the Hatians interests and enter a plea to terminate the deal, and if so, what jurisdiction would it fall under ?

                    1. Or better yet, the 1-800 to the 700 Club and you can pose these probing questions to him directly. I’m sure he doesn’t have a single goddamn answer but when has that ever stopped him.

      1. I just copy my link location into the quotation marks and adjust the height and width. It’s already done so I copy and paste it when it’s formatted to my liking, it’s a lot easier than typing it in manually.

  4. Unbelievable.  How more full of yourself can you be?  And agreed with peacemonger … the nodding betty next to him is … everything is just wrong with that.

  5. let me say that I and many other conservatives in no way view this man as the “face” of our values.  What he said is inexcusable and reprehensible.
