This just in from the Independence Institute:

August 31, 2009

The Independence Institute invites you to attend

An Update from Washington with

U.S. Congresswoman

Michele Bachmann

Serving the Sixth District of Minnesota

11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Denver Athletic Club

1325 Glenarm, Denver, Colorado

Elected in 2006, Congresswoman Michele Bachmann is the first Republican woman to be elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from Minnesota. In only her first term, Congresswoman Bachmann developed a reputation as a "principled reformer" who stays true to her conservative beliefs while pushing for real reform of the broken ways of Washington...

Rep. Bachmann, if you haven't had the pleasure, has a good explanation for that little quip about your anti-American values (if any). You never know who's got a [insert anti-American paraphernalia here] in their closet after all.

Especially that one
"Red/Green." What is that, communist and Naderite? Isn't that the same thing?
Rep. Bachmann is going to want to know.

Spendicide, a pandemic inflicting millions of lost souls
For those with Spendicide, Dr. Bachmann is in the house 8/31!

She was the first Republican woman to be elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from Minnesota.

In only her first term, Congresswoman Bachmann developed a reputation as a "principled reformer" who stays true to her conservative beliefs while pushing for real reform of the broken ways of Washington.  And, her strong advocacy for her constituents earned her a second term in Congress in November 2008.

She is a leading advocate for bipartisan earmark reform and tax relief and is a staunch opponent of wasteful government spending.

She is among the leaders in the U.S. House pushing for increased energy exploration in the U.S. to provide much needed relief at the pump for hard-working Americans and put our nation on the path to energy independence.

Prior to serving in the U.S. Congress, Bachmann served in the Minnesota State Senate.  She was elected to the Minnesota State Senate in 2000 where she championed the Taxpayers Bill of Rights.  And, prior to that, Bachmann spent five years as a federal tax litigation attorney, working on hundreds of civil and criminal cases.  That experience solidified Bachmann's strong support for efforts to simplify the Tax Code and reduce tax burdens on family and small business budgets.

Congresswoman Bachmann currently sits on the Financial Services Committee.  This committee is tasked with the oversight of numerous financial sectors including housing, real estate and banking.  This also gives the Congresswoman keen insight into the housing crisis and credit crunch, leading her to be a staunch opponent of the taxpayer-funded bailout of Wall Street.

The 6th Congressional District of Minnesota contains parts of six counties, stretching from Stillwater past St. Cloud, including suburbs of the Twin Cities, which encompasses one of the nation's largest financial services sectors, making Congresswoman Bachmann's position on the Financial Services Committee particularly important.

Congresswoman Bachmann is a graduate of Anoka High School and Winona State University. Bachmann and her husband, Marcus, live in Stillwater where they own a small business mental health care practice that employs 42 people.

The Bachmanns have five children, Lucas, Harrison, Elisa, Caroline, and Sophia.  In addition, the Bachmanns have opened their home to 23 foster children, which has inspired Congresswoman Bachmann to become one of Congress' leading advocates for foster and adopted children, earning her bipartisan praise for her efforts.

Wow, impressive.
Doesn't mention her take on carbon dioxide, American Muslims, (she includes her President in that group), her birther membership, or her resistance to the hated "cash for clunkers" program.

Maybe at the DAC meetup she can expose all those "real American" hating U.S. Senators and Congressional Rep's.

Also, hopefully on the menu, will be how HB 1388, the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act (an extension of Americorp, which passed the House 275-149 and the Senate 79-19, signed by the President, all this year) "will make national service mandatory and indoctrinate and re-educate our children in the phylosophy our current government puts forward."

Perhaps after dessert, the good Rep. can explain why "a McCarthy-ite investigation of all anti-American liberals in this country is  vital to our security".

No event with Representative Bachman would be complete without the recounting of the "all Minnesotans must be armed and dangerous" statement.

And, before the benediction, we must be warned about Acorn's menacing presence, the rigging of the census according to Michelle, and how solar flares, not humans, heat the planet.

Boy, that's a lot for the low, low price of 35.00.

Here's your problem rocco
Libertad may not have mentioned that, but he certainly agrees with Rep. Bachmann on most of the stuff you just mentioned.

[ Parent ]
Must be the next Sarah Palin
The GOP is desperately trying to find a female the party can push for the presidency.

Good luck with that
The ladies most likely to make the grade on the GOP side are the ones Republicans like to dismiss as disloyal to the cause.

But if I have to choose between Bachmann and Palin, please give me Palin with a moderate VP.  At least she'll grow tired of the job after a year or two and resign...

the next one?
Are we rid of the old one yet?

I'm not as sweet as I used to be.

[ Parent ]
Not yet but the new one is even better...
Not just a birther but one who also believes the census is a plot to send our young people to re-education camps. And that Americans really like working two jobs to get by. And lots of other neat stuff!

[ Parent ]
is it too soon for them to recycle Musgrave?

[ Parent ]
Michele Bachmann clearly hates America
Look at the picture - no flag pin.

Where all the cool kids will be on Saturday - Code War!

Ya but.....
There's a big flag in the background. She's obviously trying to avoid "flag overload", a common aliment of politicians.

Minnesota's Marilyn Musgrave
Thank you II for associating itself with this so-dim-she'll-say-anything congressperson. This woman puts the 'batty' in batshit crazy.

Why do these twits hate America?
The census is in the fucking Constitution!

I assume Rep. Bachmann got her UG and JD from Winona (Judd?) State, but seriously, how does can one practice law and be such a moonbat 'tard?

My partner's husband is a total Fat Tony (Scalia) worshipping Republican, but he has a brain in his head, and can even agree that Bush v. Gore was a travesty.

I meant to mention that he's a corporate lawyer

real America?
at the DAC?

'nuff said.

And of course, there's this
Lest we forget--"the kiss"

Today, you're either going to get better or you're going to get worse, but you're never going to be the same.  Which one will it be?  --Joseph V. Paterno

"Congresswoman Bachmann...
developed a reputation as a 'principled reformer'...

Well, she certainly "developed a reputation" alright.  More of a reputation as a complete loon though.

If republicans want to hold the 6th CD of Minnesota they should take a lesson from the Colorado 4th District and replace her with a less strident conservative before Democrats pick her off like we did Musgrave.

"But when I see a 9-11 victim family on television, or whatever, I'm just like, 'Oh, shut up!' I'm so sick of them because they're always complaining."  Glenn Beck

How conservative is that district?
Is it in flux like CD-4, or is it pretty safe like CD-5?

Looks more like our 6th

MN-06: The DCCC
went hard after her last year at the very end of the cycle after her Chris Matthews imbroglio where she called for investigations of members of Congress for insufficient Americanism. Mostly, it looks like they pushed a lot of money around that never even got spent. Tinkelberg didn't even go up on TV until Oct. 21.

There's actually a short bit today on TPM about that and the Dem opposition in 2010:

Very similar districts...
Colorado 4th is rated as +6 Republican and Minnesota 6th is rated as +7 Republican by the Cook Partisan Voting Index.

And, similar to CO-04
Bachmann seriously underperformed in her district.

El Tinklenberg (who dropped out of this year's race today), did not ramp up until late in the game and still came within 3 points of ousting her...

This year's race is shaping up to be an all-female affair now that El is out.  Tarryl Clark, an FDL State Legislator, and Maureen Reed, who is running on both the FDL and Independence Party tickets, remain in the race.  No word on whether Reed would drop out if she lost the FDL primary or if she would remain in as an Independence Party candidate...

It's CD6 -like
Hitler could win with an (r) behind his name.

[ Parent ]
See Arvadonian's reponse
There are areas of Bachmann's district which are probably to the right of CO-06, but the district as a whole votes much more like CO-04.
