Polis vs. Polis

by: Colorado Pols

Wed Jul 29, 2009 at 17:04:45 PM MDT

Interesting find from the folks at Square State:

In a statement just released today two years ago, congressman congressional hopeful Jared Polis '07 took sides in the ongoing debate on funding health care.

votepolis.com 2007

I strongly believe that access to quality, affordable health care is a right and not a privilege, and it is imperative that we take action to meet the pressing health care needs of our nation...

   ...putting patients above special interests...

...I oppose the Bush administration's proposed deductions that provide the largest tax benefits to high-income individuals who can already afford health insurance and add substantially to already-large budget deficits.

Jared Polis? You mean, this guy? The rich people shouldn't pay for health care guy?

I agree
Not only do I "oppose the Bush administration's proposed deductions that provide the largest tax benefits to high-income individuals who can already afford health insurance," but I also support the expiration of the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy, and voted for the same in our annual budget.

Jared Polis

Oh, how quaint
It's the post where Polis shows up without saying anything substantive or addressing any of his constituents' concerns.

I understand many people in Boulder are douches (I listen to their goddamn fireworks every fucking night, and their "woohoo" that they chant to remind themselves that they're having fun and not humiliating themselves), but could you maybe make half an effort to represent the rest of us too?

OTOH, cheers for making a strong stand on DADT. What a shitty policy that was, and people wanted you to fix it, and you've made an effort.

Good thing it doesn't cost you any money to make a stand on an issue like that.

My prediction
we will end up with a bill that dosen't allow insurers to deny coverage for preexisting conditions, and thats about the only major thing that gets done.  The bill will end up being a watered down piece of shit.

Just my two cents.

" The webinar is free, however, there are only 250 spaces available "

Some douche

Thank you for that
And I will say I appreciate you showing up here when you know most of us are mad at you.  I also heat you are having a conference call tonight to discuss the issue.  These are good things.  Now listen to what everyone is saying.

Polis and the Blue Dog Trend
He isn't the only one sticking his neck out.  Others, like Udall, are just waiting to see which side the tree falls on. "As you know, many proposals have been put on the table by our friends, the insurance executives, for promoting the least amount of change to our health care system in order to make it work out most profitably for the elite interests in this country. I recognize there are many, slight variations, on philosophies and ideas for the best way to ensure that the insurance companies will remain in absolute power while killing any nonsense about having to respect the lower classes in this country as other civilized and industrialized nations do across the world. As your Senator, it is my job to pay lip service to listening closely to the various stakeholders involved in this process while seeking out active means to promote my own future well-being and the self-interests of other, wealthier, citizens than yourself. This process has helped significantly affirm my own elitist bias on what is best for wealthy Coloradoans and our friends the insurance and health executives of America. One thing I firmly believe, however, is that the status-quo must be cloaked with some minor changes, like nonprofit cooperatives for the masses, because, well, there was the French Revolution a long time ago, and the natives are getting more savvy and restless. This pathway to equality for masses is simply unacceptable and unsustainable for the elite in America today."

Udall has a long record
Unlike Polis (and you!)  Udall has been around a long time doing the right things.  He has some trust built up.

Udall
Is the glass half full or empty.  I always thought you came in with 100% trust and had to erode it to only be left with "some".

If significant health care reform
gets passed this year with a public option and everyone being covered, Jared may come out of this looking pretty good in the eyes of most of the people in CD2.

This issue of whether the rich or the super rich should pay higher taxes to get it done is not the main issue here. Is it? Isn't the main issue making sure everyone is covered? And doing it in a way that does not keep us in debt for generations.

From what I can see, Jared, you simply would rather have multinational million/billion dollar corporations paying more in taxation than the smaller companies/individuals that may make 300,000 a year or so.

Hope it gets done so Jared is not blamed by some.

I have been focusing on personal and local issues the last week so I hope my comments are relevant and not too far off base.

I agree
If real reform passes this year, few will remember or care what Polis said and did. It's if it doesn't pass . . .

Okay Polis
A robust public option for healthcare THIS YEAR!!!

Anything less and you are GONE!!!
